Could you just set to bulb then close the shutter on a mark you can see the subject is about to cross on a pre focused mark?

Well, that could work. However, that still would take a lot of planning and in real world situations you probably don't have that much control over what's happening in front of the camera.

I'm not sure why anyone would convert a single image like that into CMYK unless it was a clean format poster. But the biggest issue with what you're saying is the customers' expectations. The final printed image is sometimes so different, they are not happy. I have one question regarding the ICC profiles you use. Why not fogra 27/39?
@hoffmann-photography-Syke
@hoffmann-photography-Syke 24 күн бұрын
Well, I still get images from customers converted to CMYK despite the fact, that it is not yet clear, on which paper it will be printed. And that's somewhat silly in my opinion. I do use Fogra 27/39 of course for 4c offset printing. But it is less than optimal for inkjet printing with more than 4 colors. Modern inkjet printers use nine or even twelve colors that can print a wider gamut than simple 4c offset printing.

Thank you for your reply. It's a good topic which I also find graphic schools just don't teach their students enough about. People constantly send us designs, not only in RGB, but without bleed and registration. It can be frustrating.

Thank you very much for these infos👍 My printer gives CMYK ICC for each kind of product of his, but requests the files for printings to be sent as RGB files… Does it make any sense? Can’t understand… I don’t know enough on the matter… really I can’t understand how to menage this issue… Thank you
@hoffmann-photography-Syke
@hoffmann-photography-Syke 3 ай бұрын
Yes, it does make sense. The ICC profiles in that case are meant for soft proofing only. The conversion from RGB to CMYK will be done by your printer using the correct ICC profile for the printing press he uses and the paper you selected. Modern printers, especially inkjet printers that use 10 or 12 different inks, can print a much larger color gamut than a CMYK file contains. Therefore, converting the RGB file to CMYK is not recommended. You are losing some colors in that process. I hope, this helps.

Hello, Master. Good to see you on my feed again. The Baroque Church simplified... it's a problem not unlike the rainforest I live in except, in the latter, symmetry is much harder to find. It's especially difficult when one feels that it's important to present the grandeur (or whatever) of the whole... or the sheer aesthetic chaos which is, afterall, how much of the world is. So I think there is often a tension between a reductionism, that often decontextualizes, and the imperative of exhibiting truths about the world, that can potentially overwhelm. Somewhere in that lie the current values and fashions of photography and, with all of it, the wish to reach some sort of audience.... Hope all goes well - have a good day.

Congrats for this video! What about if I'm in full manual mode (I choose my ISO, shutter speed and aperture)? I guess it doesn't matter which light metering mode you choose (spot, evaluative etc...). Am I right? I've done some tests, and the metering mode makes no difference when I'm in full manual.Could you confirm (or not...) please ? Regards.
@hoffmann-photography-Syke
@hoffmann-photography-Syke 5 ай бұрын
Well, that depends. Let's say, you've set your ISO and your shutter speed to fixed values. If the exposure indicator (or perhaps you call it exposure scale) indicates let's say an exposure of negative 2 (too dark) and you open the aperture by 2 stops so that the exposure indicater points to "zero", than the exposure can depend on the metering mode. If you use spot metering and the spot points to a dark area of your subject, let's say a black sweater, than the metering will be different from the evaluative metering which takes into account not only the black sweater but also the face and the background. If you just set ISO, shutter speed and aperture to some random values, the metering mode doesn't matter. However, depending on the lighting situation, your exposure could be way off. For example, inside a not so well lit room a combination of 1/1000 s, f11 and ISO 200 will result in a completely black photo. I hope this helps.

Yep, that pretty much defines my world as well, Herr H. AP as i'm generally shooting the same types of subject you are interested in. Aside from those you mentioned, instances where i'll use manual include 1. birds in flight (M with Auto-ISO); 2. shooting with vintage glass; 3. ICM; 4. some music event shooting; 5. (which doesn't count) my beloved Spotmatic SP. In sum... 85% AP, 15% M. Thanks, as always, for the video - hope all is going well in your world. Cheers from NZ.

THanks a lot for your thoughts. Actually, there are studies using eye scanners that quite conclusively show, that our eyes don't follow any lines. Instead, we look at parts of the image first, that have a lot of contrast. But as I said in the video, I sort of like lines, even if they don't lead the eye. By the way, you commented on another of my videos (Photography & Reality: A Myth Debunked), but it doesn't show up under the video. So I couldn't answer you. Let me say: just my sentiments as well.

I don't use jpg when shooting. I'm not even sure if I've tried jpg in the camera I'm using now. But I think it's one reason a lot of people like Fujii cameras. I think they like the different film simulations and the black and white rendering. Some of the KZfaqrs I've watched will tweak their black and white profile settings to add contrast. I shoot in raw and edit in Lightroom. I have the Nik collection and I use silver fx pro to convert my black and white images. They have a lot of presets to choose from and you can adjust all of them the way you like it.

Thank you very much for your comment. I also exclusively shoot RAWs. But in our photography classes there are a lot of people who prefer JPGs because they don't need to edit them. I can understand that, but converting JPGs to black and white is, in my humble opinion, not the best idea.
@carlmcneill1139
@carlmcneill1139 6 ай бұрын
@hoffmann-photography979 from my understanding, there's a filter on the sensor that keeps us from getting the true black and white tones. If you want to get close to what film does you have to have a black and white camera. Pentax just came out with a crop sensor version. Leica is supposed to have one that's really great. If you have Leica money to buy one. That's why it's not best to use jpg. Even shooting in raw you won't get exactly what you could with a converted camera.

Occasionally i watch a video that transforms my understanding of a topic. So, this conversion is something i only rarely do, and that probably explains why i've not bothered to pay great attention. But, if i flip and extend that... i probably rarely do it because the results are rarely inspiring. You've opened the door for me - the responsibility for the consequences following on from that lie entirely with YOU! All i can say is 'Many thanks!' Just an aside - i've tried Mono-mode, and not seen the point. But do you have any experience with the likes of the Leica or K3 Monochrome cameras? Best wishes from New Zealand.

Thank you very much for your comment. I don't have a Leica or a K3, but I've seen photos (the digital files, actually) taken with a Leica Monochrome camera. Sharpness and resolution (no Bayer pattern) are absolutely stunning. However, to control the conversion of colors into gray values you have to use the classic yellow, orange, red, and green filters that are used with black and white film. Editing software just gives you way more control than that.

An easy thing to remember is that if the focal length is same as the sensor size that is 35 mm on full frame or 22-24 mm on APS-C you get horizontally as much in the image as the distance is. This makes 35 mm lens usable also for shooting inside which 50 mm is not that much. Hurman eye has very large angle of view, over 180 degrees though not all of them is sharp. I do not get where the idea that 50 mm has same angle of view as the eye comes but it clearly is not true.
@hoffmann-photography-Syke
@hoffmann-photography-Syke 7 ай бұрын
Well, that's true. If you close one eye, however, it's not too far off from the angle of view of the 50 mm lens. But still, it's not quite right to compare the eye to the normal lens, I agree.

Now, my friend, this might be a 'cultural' thing, but i find your football image to be both appropriate and witty. You have succeeded in capturing the essence of the game, and with a complete absence of ambiguity. We have grass (i prefer the wider crop as it emphasizes the surface), we have a foot (the weight-bearing foot is obscured which reminds us that the game is not 'Feetball'), and the ball (which looks German, but is none the worse for that fact). The action is perfectly frozen which allows the image to be read - a visiting alien would decipher it. My sole criticism is that your model's technique has him placing his weight bearing foot slightly too far from the ball, which may undermine both his power and accuracy. My only recommendation is that, if you want some genuinely rubbish shots to critique, you should drop me a note - i have plenty to spare. Take care and thank you for the vid. Prost!!
