What is the reason you put a cap in series with the inductor coil for the subwoofer/midbass ? Is it to create and band pass effect ? If I want to only use the coil as a low pass filter then I don’t need the cap correct ?

If you're upgrade is better, it should be popular by now. But for me, ferrite magnets are better, that's why it was commonly used.

Maybe it's just me. Buying magnets is easier than buying a machine lathe and learning how to use it.

Did a Nd magnet mod and the results were increased volume with less drive current and extended HF response. Was worth it for mid and high range, didnt change much with bass and sub bass regions. Replacing with an active magnet (electromagnet) was similar.

Is it a compression driver?

Nice project but making an inductor using loose wire around a steel bolt will be bad for bass quality because the wire is quite thin and the bolt will store magnetic energy as hysterisis and distorsion. I think your project deserve better in that departement. Good luck!

Here's a hack for winding the coil: Use an empty tuna fish can, the circumference is the same as a CD box and use a drill to turn the can as you wind the copper wire.
