I'm surprised how little bit of dust was kicked up going that speed and how dry it is. I was out there last week as well, I felt fine when moving but when we stopped I would feel crappy. We were pushing it pretty hard at one point and I paid for that later on. Hey, your wife is running at a really good pace! Good for her. Thanks for sharing!

She's getting faster, she's a good C pace now. We were lucky enough to have a little wind that kept some of the dust down.

A fair amount of riding time but not so much starting on a hill. She would have made the climb but she didn't give the rider in front of her enough room and he got stuck in front of her. Her short legs make these situations a little vertically challenging 😂

Probably in the 70's when this vid was made but right now it's around 105-110 during the day. Nice thing about the desert is you can still get out at sun up to squeeze a few hours of hot riding in vs. somewhere like Flagstaff in the winter where it's freezing or 3' of snow on the ground. The temps up in the mountains are usually 15-20 degrees cooler during summer.

That point man was the most "sit down" rider I've ever seen before. I don't think he stood up once. I have ridden with some super fast sit down riders, I must admit. I agree with you about the trails in Prescott being better than Flagstaff. I've ridden Flagstaff a lot and I still can't really find something that has great trails, meaning really good soil for a long period of time. However, Prescott has a lot better soil and yes, with rain it's really great. Right after a good monsoon that 7 mile Gulch is a hoot. Thanks for sharing!

That many hours... how could that condition be negative 🤔 ...unless it chunks off knobs in the first 5hrs. What about side wall stiffness? Run tubes, tubliss or bib?????
@Monkeybutt_ADV
@Monkeybutt_ADV Ай бұрын
The downfall of the tire is that it starts shedding large chunks of knobby early in it's life. Traction is good under acceleration and braking, sidewall stiffness was average and I was running tubes at the time at 12psi. I ride hard desert terrain so it's not an easy environment for a tire, although this is rated as a med/hard terrain tire. Overall it was a decent tire but there are tires that hold up better for longer in the terrain I ride in.

How’s the weight on the 300R for single track and the more enduro-y sections?
@Monkeybutt_ADV
@Monkeybutt_ADV Ай бұрын
I don't find it too bad, I feel it in the whoops and mainly when you have to pick it up if it gets dropped. Supposedly the early 2000's KLX 300's weigh around 230. I'm 6' 210lbs and that probably helps, someone who weighs 150 may feel it a bit more. It's been a fun bike, I picked it up because I found a sweetheart deal on it.

@@Monkeybutt_ADV nice, I’m really tempted to buy one after trying for weeks to find a clean enough 300 2 stroke in my $4500 price range. Everything is either too old or really clapped out with 600+ hours. Found a 2022 with less than 50 hours for $3900 which seems reasonable. I’m 185 so it might not be the easiest but used to ride an xr400 which I loved. I was suprised to find this weighed more than the xr400 though lol
@Monkeybutt_ADV
@Monkeybutt_ADV Ай бұрын
@@badcompany1313 Yeah, that's a tough price range for a 300 because they are so pricey. You know, a YZ250 may be a great compromise, I just saw a 2017 with low hours for something like 3k, you may be able to find one near or a reasonable driving range. Their motors are super strong, they have a modern chassis and handle great. Throw on a desert tank, skid plate, handguards and it may be good to go.

@Monkeybutt_ADV
@Monkeybutt_ADV Ай бұрын
Sure thing, the bike is essentially stock other than the protection like the skid plate and handguards. I bought the bike used from a guy from our motorcycle club, Arizona Trail Riders so anything aftermarket was added already. The pipe is a FMF Gnarly with a FMF spark arrestor, other than that the engine is stock with the stock carb. The bike does have an Enduro Engineering tall seat on it, which is good because I'm 6' and Mark said his Xtrainer seat is like a hatchet on his bum. The Enduro Engineering seat is really comfy but I don't sit a lot. The bonus is I also have a Beta 200RR and the seat can swap back and forth. Suspension is also stock but I did put a stiffer spring on the rear because I barely got sag with the stock Beta shock spring. It took me a little while to get the suspension dialed in but it's probably me because I've been off the bike since the late 2000's and I rode Kawasaki KX which by memory handled differently.

Ok. Great video! Your bike sounds dialed. My Buddy has a 2021 300rr with a 36mm smart carb and fatty pipe. It’s the best 2 stroke I’ve ever ridden. Yours sounds the same. I have a 2021 Xtrainer and I'm quite happy with it because I’m 62 and ride the same type of terrain here in SoCal. Your riding has a flow that's cool to watch. I really enjoyed this video…it’s very inspiring! Thank you!

Thanks, the 300RR is a super fun bike. The motor is pretty amazing. It has gobs of low/mid and you can almost trail ride it like my old KX500 where you keep it in 3rd with the occasional shift because it will bog but pull all the way down to the last RPM. The Xtrainers are nice, Max and Mark that ride with Al and I each have one. My wife is getting ready to move off her KLX230R and I think that's what we're going to get her. She rode a KX250 a long time ago before we took a long break from riding so she can handle the motor, her issue is height but we can make the bike a tad lower.

Go with 120 PSI in your inner tube and about 4 to 5 PSI in the outer tube, you will freak on how well you get traction up hills. The tire will be fine with no issues, especially if you're running that Michelin enduro tire or IRC V33. Great riding by the way...both of you guys are hauling the mail on those trails!

I was wondering about the inner tube, the instructions mention running it at 100psi but on the back side they mention running it at 120psi. Going to start playing around with pressures more. I would imagine a semi bald tire would even hook ok up at 4-5psi.
