Is there any issue if we run out of vram but the game is smooth?

I'm convinced people are being paid off by valve, sent the first back because it was a total POS. First of all they purposely make it a pain in the ass to play non steam games, you have to literally rename the game to the steamappid just to get access to public controller templates, you still can't get the official ones. Clearly trying to get people to rebuy the games on steam because money you also can't get the precompiled shaders for non steam games, even though it's meant to be an open source device; there is literally no reason why there shouldn't be an option to download the shaders from a public repository. I'm not rebuying dishonoured I already have it on GOG you greedy bastards It's buggy as ALL hell even in the stable channel numerous 'plays great on deck' games literally don't work, run poorly at low graphic settings and the battery dies after an hour. The price to performance ratio is absolutely hideous, my m1 macbook cost me less and consistently outperforms the steamdecks gpu and cpu with literally like 5-6x the battery maybe more You want to stream your pc to the deck using moonlight? TOUGH LUCK, BECAUSE WE DON'T LET YOU APPLY WHATEVER TEMPLATES YOU WANT FOR A CONTROL SCHEME SO HAVE FUN SETTING THEM ALL YOUR SELF. Even if you don't want a vastly superior mac you can get a thinkpad with intergraded amd graphics that'll outperform the deck for cheaper and it won't make you want smash the device to pieces fighting with it to make it actually usable. Regardless of whether or not it's 15w the performance is absolutely disgusting, oh wow you can play elden ring at xbox 360 tier settings at 30fps? for a whole hour wow that's so crazy. Dumpster fire

Is the 6/8pin on the RX 6600 a problem for this case? I know that the 6600 can be undervolted to run under 70W. It would still be 20~30% faster than the RTX A2000 (it’s close to 50% faster with normal TDP).

Rdr2 looks better and runs using the decks built in FSR by selecting windowed mode and resolution of 1152x720 from the main menu settings in rdr2

I always play with frame gen on. I cap my FPS to 90 and put on framegen. Then my GPU sometimes consumes only 50% of the power it could but holding a stead 90 fps. Also a lot of games are unplayable without it like Alan Wake where you get 40 fps with dlss q then need framegen to at least go to 60.

The chart saying a 3070Ti is 4k good/ green kinda dumb cuz its not its about 7-10 percent faster than the normal 3070 and thats not really a good 4k either, i can overclock my 3070 and ive gotten close to slighty better than a 3070Ti levels of performance

My 3090 may not be VRAM limited, but at 4K Native High settings + High Ray Tracing, I get maybe 20-25fps. The game is hard to run in all categories.

Good settings! By the way, at least on my Oled, I've used your settings at the end but turned FSR off. Locked the refresh rate of display for this particular game to 45fps. It looks and runs fantastic! I hate FSR it makes the game way too blurry.

Honestly I'm looking to switch to Windows due to emulation and apps constantly breaking with Proton updates. EMUDeck is maybe the worst emulation front end I've ever worked with, and dual booting windows for Launchbox was more or less mandatory. I'm one of those people that likes to load thousands of games into an emulation library and EMUDeck just doesn't work well with that. Not to mention several times it gets completely broken by proton updates...

This is a Year later after the tool came out and I am using the Steam Deck OLED. I fully understand all of the points brought up in the video and have no disagreements. I also belive that the performance in the original video was slightly over exatrurated but, coming from a background in IT i think the utility is more geared towards further optimization with the way the Kernel uses the storage. I have no where near the amount of games that you have but i have very few AAA titles and i see the same exact numbers and reading that you do in your testing. But with my other games that are more indie titles the performance that was stated in the video announcing the utility was way more on par. Since these games are not nearly as optimized as the AAA games are. Wonderful video and like i said fully agree with all of the points but i do think it is a tool that should be used and not ignored since it does optimize the decks OS far more than steam does now.

Rockstar made gta 5 for consoles with less than 600 mb of ram, and gpu worse than a microwave and u telling me these consoles cant run 1440p at 60 fps? Aint no way. Developers are just lazy, not everything needs to have RT, not everything needs to be 4k. They should make every game run at least at 2k and 60 fps.

Every game I have played on my Ps5 in Performance mode is 60fps. These console only cost $500 why do people expects 4k/60 for that money playing a new AAA game . My $500 laptop has onboard graphics and would be lucky run Windows 11 pro OK . Play the newest AAA game at 1080p/60fps without Ray Tracing for only $500 ? Hell Yes .

60fps is minimum acceptable, regardless of resolution.

No, it’s not acceptable on the console that don’t have ML upscaling. 30 FPS is also not acceptable At this point it’s a design choice and a miss management of importance. Choosing to push graphics at the cost of everything is a joke. Devs are so bad at targeting a non moving target hardware that they overshoot by a whole generation. Basically they have to aim for the ps4 so they can land at a proper 1440/60 on the ps5. Why 1440p? Because that is where FSR2 can upscale to 4K while still looking clean. This is also a massive terrible business. If the console can barely run your game in which console are the budget system in the market… what hope of scaling do you have on other platforms like the PC? Funny enough we are seeing many of those just be avoided even on consoles and much so on PC. Possible showing that the market don’t want to buy games that they can barely run. Now let’s say if you did properly aimed your game to hit 1440p/60. Meaning you optimize your graphics, assist, and engine for that target. Not only you will have a better gaming experience, a better product, you can even release a ps4/xbox version, and even get it to run on a steam deck at 30/40 fps. Watching your video you try to used games with heavy graphics to make your point. Which one thing you forgot… who said the game needed those assist? That level of graphics? And so on… if the Developers focus on hitting 1440/60 instead of graphics. This wouldn’t be an issue. No, 1080p being upscale I can clearly see the issues assuming using Non ML upscaler. The image breakup in motion is so clear. Yes in Motion is far more important because it’s a video game. Now change the subject to ML upscaler like DLSS that is another topic. I can’t tell even when looking for it in motion. The only way for me to tell is to look for ghosting in very small particles effects. That is only because I know WHAT to look for. Non ML? It’s complete unusable below 1440p. Even my friend that has no idea what anything does doesn’t use FSR because it’s shit… and he doesn’t even know what it does. Just that it makes the game looks like shit. Anyways this whole discussion, is why I play on PC… because I can’t trust Devs to have common sense to know what’s more important in a game. They do hyper focus on making a movie by the time it’s time to optimize it’s far to late to make Key optimize decisions that should have been made regarding assist, features, and so on… so they slap the easy Upscaler button and call it. Soon, they all will be hitting the same Easy button with Frame gen to hit 60 FPS…. Anyone that uses that feature knows it needs a base of 60 to feel Okay. Okay not good. Hell I have a high end pc with a 4080 and I still avoid these type of games. Upscalers should be an optional optimization tool for low end hardware not a requirement for 4080/Consoles to hit 4K or 1440

I don’t care if it’s not 4k. I’ll always stick with my ps4, people seem to forget that does 60 fps. Yea, some games are 30 but they are still all playable. 4k doesn’t make you play better. 1080p works perfectly since I use a 1080p TV. even the ps5 works perfectly fine in 1080p mode at 60 fps.
