It's a shame they disallowed camping on Seagrim Lake...we used to camp there on the far North island...great Smallmouth fishing there as well....we blasted a trail all the way to Hollingsworth Lake thru Wollard and beyond...fantastic Walleye fishing all along this route...you can even bushwack from Wollard south into the Black River, cross the river and climb up into Glenn Lake which is an absolute gem of a camping lake...lots of hard work tho but well worth the effort...Thanx for the vid..Well done...(some old fart that used to go there)
@ianmccallum_9 күн бұрын
I appreciate you watching! Everyone I bumped into said Seagrim is great fishing but I didn’t want to make my way over just to come back and set up camp. Unfortunately I ended up getting skunked but probably just from lack of trying. Thanks again for watching, I always love hearing from the old farts!

I watched an earlier video of yours and this one. You now have a different canoe and are using a single paddle. Thoughts on preferences? I wonder if a lightweight single pack set up would allow for one trip portaging and faster travel?
@ianmccallum_Ай бұрын
The new canoe is absolutely beautiful, it’s a phoenix from the company northstar. It’s only 28lbs but a little less stable compared to the Adirondack I was paddling. I’ve switched to a traditional canoe paddle because I prefer the feeling of paddling with a canoe paddle, a kayak paddle is more efficient so I’m thinking of bringing both from now on. I’ve thought about single packing but since I’m filming I have a bunch of camera gear to bring and it would be too difficult to do one trip. Also helps stabilize the canoe having a pack in the front of the boat and the back
@granthaller9544Ай бұрын
Of course; I didn’t think about the extra gear you must pack. I think the two paddle types is a great idea as a spare is always smart.

Hi Ian it's been a while. I was just catching up on your videos and I just saw this one. New canoe !! Did you go for a lighter weight ? I have one more to watch. Keep up the great filming and editing !! 👍
@ianmccallum_7 ай бұрын
Yeah I opted for a North Star Phoenix. Only weighs 28lbs which definitely helps on the portages and makes solo tripping a breeze. Thanks for watching I really appreciate the support!
@1icepounder7 ай бұрын
@@ianmccallum_ That's a really nice canoe and sounds like it meets your needs of portaging. Best of luck with it ! I opted for for your old canoe .. the Esquif Adirondack. I believe it was the best option for my needs. I mostly paddle small rivers and lakes and thought the material was better suited to river fishing. To be honest I enjoy paddling but love fishing. I spent several weeks rigging it to specifically meet my needs while still keeping it light weight. I have it set up with through the hull line for drag chains and quick release cleats. I have other mods as well. If you wanted to see it let me know and I'd send pics. Again I like your videos and hope to view more !!

Just seeing this comment now. Glad you were able to outfit an Adirondack for your needs. It’s definitely a beast and should last you many years to come. You’re bound to have many memorable trips with that boat. Thanks again for watching and commenting! 👍

Nice sandy beach sites 👍 how does the canoe handle? Looks pretty fast and relatively stable
@ianmccallum_8 ай бұрын
It handles very well it’s only 14.6 ft so still pretty maneuverable. Pretty stable for the most part. I’m used to a wider and heavier canoe so this one surprised me when I first got it on the water. Once you have your gear in the boat weighing it down it’s stable.
@DerekSOutdoors8 ай бұрын
@@ianmccallum_ yeah I find the smaller canoes feel a lot more stable once you get weight into them as well. Looking into getting a bigger canoe, too much camera gear to put around now 😂

I really like your videos .. I've watched two now. I agree with others I appreciate them more without any music. I believe there is too much confusion around the Esquif Adirondack canoe. When they first came out they were listed at 37 lbs, then 39 lbs and they settled on 42 lbs. The same goes for the max load. Originally it was stated 550-600 lbs. Then I read elsewhere just under 500 lbs. They apparently settled on 400 lbs. I believe all this leaves people confused. Out of curiosity what would you figure your total load was in the video ? I'm trying to get an idea if it would be a good choice for me. Thanks and I really enjoyed both videos.
@ianmccallum_10 ай бұрын
I’d say my total load including my body weight for most of my trips is around 300-325 lbs. I never felt like I was reaching anywhere near this boats limit. It can handle a fair amount of weight.

Great vid. Cheers to that! Question: you're a big guy in a 12" Adirondack...obviously it works - Are there any 'DOWN SIDES' to the format? I've been considering the Adirondack but worried about tracking and load. I'm a big guy but don't treasure the idea of a big canoe. Anyhoo, just a guy from B.C. interested in a real world opinion. Thanks!
@ianmccallum_ Жыл бұрын
It’s a great little canoe! Only 12 feet so can’t fit a ton of gear but good enough for a week long trip if you pack well enough. A little heavy for how short it is coming in at 40 ish lbs. if you’re primarily doing flat water I might recommend going to a lighter material like Kevlar. The T-formex material on this canoe is super nice though. This boat can take anything you throw at it. If you do plan on doing any kind of moving water I would look at the Esquif echo, it’s a 14 ft, same material but no keel so better for taking on rapids.
