Thank you so much for this, I was having a tough time with the sectional charts until I found this video.

Looks like you are no longer teaching High School students at Ashley High School. Looks like you are pursuing your Law Degree now in Florida. I wish you all the best. I am sure you will make one heck of an attorney on day.

Thank you I appreciate that! I won’t lie. There are days I miss teaching. It was fun working with the students and growing this channel. They were big inspiration. Now my goal is to try to change gears and make it law based.

Mr Mig. Do you have any suggestions on passing the FAA part 107 test in this day and age?? Or is the information still relevant?.. Mark Ward

I know that you posted this video 2 years ago but I appreciate that your videos are still helpful on Monday, August 12, 2024 as I study and prepare to take a FAA part 107 exam in a few weeks. You may just be a high school teacher but this 65 year old man is still learning from your willingness to share and teach your knowledge. Thank you

Hi, Mike here... currently in New Orleans, but Panama City Beach is "home". First I have to say, they may not realize it but your students are lucky to have you as a teacher. I've tried studying the sectional charts for years, they are the only thing keeping me from trying for my 107. I don't know why YOUR video "flipped the switch" for me but it did. I've probably watched 3 dozen other videos and just didn't get it... it's pretty when you can teach a 68 year old "old dog" a new trick, and you did! Thank you. And I've sub'ed your channel also

LOL. You missed an easy example of dew point / fog. Your glasses. Leave an air conditioned building in the Deep South when the humidity is particularly high and voila, foggy glasses. Great lesson as always!

Thanks Mr. Mig. You are an excellent teacher! While watching your previous Airspace video, it occurred to me that it might make more sense if controlled airspace was explained from the outside to the airport. This video on Class E was simply fantastic! I am looking forward to watching your other Part 107 videos.

Just passed the 107 with a score of 83% here in NW TN. Your videos were my primary study material. I had tons of questions on air space and sectional charts. Some that stood out were asking about the Victor airways (light blue lines) and what the numbers associated with them represent, and the large blue numerics that represent the highest terrain obstacles.

Let's change the word order here to make things much easier. Change "High density altitude" to High altitude density" i.e., lower prop efficiency and "Low density altitude" to "Low altitude density" i.e., higher prop efficiency? Makes sense doesn't it. And why not add some saturated colors to sectional charts: RED, YELLOW, GREEN, etc. It would eliminate some of the difficulties of being able to make sense of charts.

Just take out the word “density” as Mr. Mig suggests, and things clear up. High altitude = bad for flying because there is less air to work with to give you lift. So the higher the [density] altitude, the worse for flying.

Great video, thanks! Easiest way for me to remember this is to replace the fuzzy term “load factor” with the word “weight”. So, looking at the graph it is immediately obvious that if your aircraft gets heavier, you gotta go faster, else you will fall out of the sky. It’s a gravity thing. That’s why earth-orbiting satellites need to go really fast to keep from falling to the earth. Just my .02, I may be wrong, but that’s the mental model I use to keep this lesson in my brain.

Thanks, great stuff. Probably worth emphasizing that the sectional chart legend has lots of good info on this topic, I always go there to confirm my analysis. Thanks, Tom in Atlanta (home of the world’s busiest airport - and the busiest sectional chart for sure!).

For anyone that needs it, here’s a helpful slide deck from the FAA on class E airspace and when you need ATC authorization to fly in it (if inspecting a tower for example) www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/files/uas/resources/events_calendar/archive/How_To_Understand_and_Operate_in_Class_E.pdf

Thank you Mr. Mig! I passed first time also with a B. Your material prepared me well. My experience was similar to other students regarding the composition of the exam questions. First few were zingers and it's important to stay calm, use the process of elimination, and also remember that the testing supplement (FAA-CT-8080-2H) has some of the answers found in Appendix 1 Legend 1 for example. If I can do it, you can do it. Thanks again Mr. Mig!!
