I realized that shortly after I started using it. I didn't want to have to re-shoot the video though at the time. Yes, it has that kickstand in the back which comes in handy. Thanks!

My deck has a brick/block border that is about 12 inches wide (previous owner was planning to build an addition on the house). Inside that I have a regular 2x6 framing. But I still need to attach the decking to the 12 inch area. The boards run laterally so will need to be attached their entire length versus just the ends like in this example. So the first three boards will be attached to the brick/block area. I like you idea, but I am concerned the anchors will work loose over time, especially since the boards are right at where the steps to the yard meet the deck. I was thinking of using Tapcons instead. Main problem is their color, but I figure i can paint them to match. So my question is how well to the plastic anchors hold up and have you ever trued Tapcon screws for this purpose ?

Do the post wobble left and right with those base plates?
@TheLastNinjaBuilder
@TheLastNinjaBuilder 2 ай бұрын
No wobbling at all. Be sure to use 5/8" anchor bolts but you may need to drill out the hole in bottom of post base bigger. 1/2" hole is standard but not as sturdy.

Why not pour the concrete before the backer board? what size studs did you use? it looks like 2x4 which are 3.5 inches wide so how did you end up with a 3.5 inch high curb AFTER tile? how long did you wait before you removed 2x4's? did you spray with water? did you let it cure before tiling? did the wood support on top leave lines? did you smooth it out? you left every single thing I wanted to see out of the video lol....
@TheLastNinjaBuilder

Good question. I put tile on both the bathroom floor and on top of the curb. It makes it 3.5" tall still

Thanks for the video- I wanted to a vinyl railing on concrete stairs and use 4x4 wood posts with the same post post brackets you used. You think it will wobble?

That black iron dust will be everywhere, walls ceiling, lungs and up your nose. Then it rusts. Get a sledge.
@TheLastNinjaBuilder
@TheLastNinjaBuilder 3 ай бұрын
Yes you need to wear and good respirator. It will also stain your cloths with metal dust. One of my shirts is permanently stained because was sweating in it and the metal dust stuck to me. lol A sledge hammer would have caused to much vibration on this only house.

why do you need to screw sliding door bottom?
@TheLastNinjaBuilder
@TheLastNinjaBuilder 3 ай бұрын
That is correct you don't need a screw for the sliding door typically. The screws in the concrete keep it from moving around ever.

How you gonna use a Vintage Collection board and then use TopLoc? Use Cortex, sooooo much cleaner. Concealoc hides all your other fasteners, but then you go and face screw the border. Come on man, spend the extra 10 bucks.
@TheLastNinjaBuilder
@TheLastNinjaBuilder 3 ай бұрын
I have seen the cortex pop out on occasion and have to come back to put plugs back in. Also the TopLoc is stainless steel and color matching. You can hardly see it ever. But I see you point.

That's what I was thinking too. I have three boards to attach to brick/block for their full 16ft length. I am concerned the plastic anchors will come loose over time. Yes the Tapcons are blue, but I would think they could be spray painted to match the deck boards no? Before or after installation. That's the way I am planning to go anyway.

Couple things. Need pre slope. Pebbles around the drain. Also never run hardie into your mortar. Hardie is known for wicking moisture. Pre slope first. Then pan liner and do your curb pour at that point. It’s a fight to get pan liner to fold at curb. But you get a concrete curb with a pan liner and zero punctures in the liner
@TheLastNinjaBuilder
@TheLastNinjaBuilder 5 ай бұрын
Watch my redgard video. I also did the preslope and then add 6" synthetic fabric at all edges and corners and then 6 coats of redgard. No pan liner needed. Also watch the oatey drain video to see how I did it.

When I removed the cast iron tub at my rental property, I found the biggest rat nest I've ever seen! It was an ideal condition for the rats. The house was built in 1950 and when they plumbed the drain line they cut a huge opening that led to the crawlspace under the house. It's an old nest and I made sure every vent and open around the house was properly covered, and I patched the opening around the drain.

True story... I did a bathroom remodel a few months ago. We got a bid from a company to remove the tube, the surround (that was laminateed), and the vanity. We were supplying a new tub, a new surround, and a new vanity. They gave us a bid of 8K for demoing a 5'X9' bathroom. He estimated 8 hours on that bid at $85.00 an hour to remove the cast iron tub and surround. That didn't include the $175.00 dump fee he was charging to dispose of, just the tub. I'm good with tools I do maintenance work and am well-versed with plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. I was totally surprised and dumbfounded by the bid. I never removed a cast iron tub, found this video and it took me a little over an hour to remove the tub. Double-check every proposal you get from all contractors.
