Thank you for the super nice comment 🙂 Since my husband is Danish, we spent some time finding out why there are different traditional methods for drying grass. It was interesting, because it turned out that there are an incredible number of geographical variations on which outdoor drying methods work best. 🙂 The Norwegian drying rack we use is one of many Norwegian variants of "Hesje"🙂🙂

Came across this method of hanging hay to dry from some dutch people now in sweden. It needs scything to work from what they see, machines damage the stems in a way that would make it rot (go moldy) rather then dry this way. They use some thick metal wire for the drying rack horizontals though.

Try not to lift the scythe up so high, but slide it low over the ground in a semi-circle, you'll get more of the grass, instead of chopping it. It is commendable that you use the scythe, your technique can be improved.

Thank you for the summery episode ❤ We have nearly 20 fruit trees and many fruit bushes but we are not getting a lot of fruit because we planted them only a few years ago. We are introducing biodiversity just like you. I use pigeon manure and a green material to enrich the soil. The manure is from my neighbour since we have no animal stock. I did felt happy for all the fruit you have shown. Our strawberries have no more fruit this season but we are enjoying goosberries and rasperries. Looking forward your wild forest blackberry film 😊 🍇🍇🍇🍇🍈🍈🍈🧄🍒🍅

Oy so many fruit trees, but yes it takes many years before they have established themselves and begin to bear plenty of fruit. My grandmother always said that you create an orchard for those who come after you. 🫣 But a young orchard also bears some fruit, luckily🙂 It sounds like your trees and bushes are getting the best care and conditions for a rich-bearing long life, impressive 🌳❤️ Yes, I see our biggest "garden" the forest around us is bearing a lot of berries this year also🫐 there will probably be some blueberry projects eventually. Hope you have a super nice weekend. hugs🙂

Very interesting video, thanks for sharing. I agree with others that a good cold wash with soap would get rid of most of the brownness and impurities. Good idea to use the lanolin as a leather conditioner. I might try it. For a while, I didn't scour the lanolin from my fleeces. I just gave them a cold soap wash. Thus made the fleeces clean and bright, with lots of lanolin still in there. Doing a similar thing to your fleece and boiling the wool may work. Also, I noticed with two Romney sheep fleeces I had, the clear yellow lanolin dripped right out and collected at the bottom of the bag it was in. I had probably 1/4th of a cup (idk in mL) at the bottom of the bag without trying. It might be worth noting which of your sheep produces the most lanolin, so you can use their fleece for this. (I don't own sheep. I just buy fleeces occasionally.) Was the wool any good after you boiled it? Or was it unusable for spinning or felting?
@wildandwoolly
@wildandwoolly 29 күн бұрын
You have a very interesting point about the lanolin falling off in the bag. I've just sheared the sheep here and some really have so much lanolin on their skin that I can scrape it off. It is clear, the quantities will not be so large, but the work effort is very much less😅 I only used the wool for felting afterwards, but it didn't seem completely useless for spinning, a bit more brittle in the fibres.
