Bow hunting has always been about getting close. It’s turned into a pissing contest because of steroid Lloyd Cam Hanes and the rest of the Hollywood shooter. Dudley & Rogan . I had respect for those guys until I heard Rogan & Cam Hanes on a podcast bragging about pulling 90lbs & Rogan said ppl were pussys that couldn’t. Working out helps, I’ve always worked out, but at their age, you aren’t gaining strength like that . They have very good steroids, because they have a lot of money. Bowhunting is all about getting close. Over to not be crazy about RF, but all the haters that come at him, I like him now, down to earth , cool guy. And Dudley I use to love , I think he’s very knowledgeable & use to be nice and helpful but the “Hollywood” attitude has gone to his head & he was horrible shaming RF their whole podcast. They all need some humble pie & come down a few notches.

For a long range bowhunting shot, just like long range rifle hunting, for a flatter trajectory you want a heavier projectile that bleeds off at a less rapid pace than a projectile of the same profile but lighter. That 300 and whatever grain arrow is a terrible choice for that job. And then referencing kinetic energy... kinetic energy is an irrelevant figure when it comes to arrow lethality.
@the_sharp_carpenter

Heavier arrows do not have a flatter trajectory.
@NorthRiverGuide
@NorthRiverGuide 2 күн бұрын
@the_sharp_carpenter up close they do not due to a slower speed with gravity having the same effect as a lighter arrow. BUT at longer ranges, that same heavier arrow has lost speed at a less rapid pace than the lighter arrow resulting in a flatter long range trajectory and higher retained speed. Arrows that are heavier and slower most certainly can have a flatter trajectory, depending mostly on distance

Past 60yds why do you even have a bow in your hand. Hell even past 40 in most areas east of the Mississippi. Josh bowmar just killed an ostrich at 141yds. People like that are simply not okay with the limitations of archery equipment. They bowhunt either as a season extender or to try and look tougher than rifle hunters. No regard for the animals death coming quickly, just put a 2 inch mechanical on and pull a gazillion pounds so you can try and kill animals further than 90% of whitetails are shot with a rifle.

Trad is awesome, it takes great skill, and it’s fun to play around with. Here’s the thing though, we, as modern hunters, are incredibly limited on time, resources, access, and general demands of modern living. When I go out on an archery hunt, I’m competing on public land, where crap loads of hunters, hikers, bikers, off roaders, and hippies frequent. When I get out there for a week or two weeks worth of hunting with my bow, I want all chips stacked in my favor. This isn’t an ego trip for me on how close I can get, or how primitive my equipment is. It’s about getting a damn deer. I want the best equipment, and I want to utilize its capabilities to the max, to leave as many opportunities for me to be successful as possible.

@The_Judge300
@The_Judge300 3 күн бұрын
Dudley is more of an archer than a bowhunter. He always want to push it as far as possible to show how great of a shot he is. And this should not be done on animals in my opinion. And I promise you that Dudley wound a LOT of animals with his long range hunting with his bow. He is just not telling you about all his bad outcomes. All animals can easily move a feet or more during the arrow flight out to 100 yards or shorter and when the animal does that, it does NOT matter at all how good of a shot you are. VERY many of these long rang hunters with a bow, hit the animal in the stomach or even in the back leg because of this. These "pros" wound MANY more animals than you think they do because they will never tell you about all their bad outcomes.

Also, I love how it’s always extreme. It’s either a 650 grain, bone crushing missile at 17 yards or bust, or it’s a 365 grain laser beam shot out to 100 plus yards. How about the middle road, wherein we shoot a 480ish grain arrow out to 60-80 yards with plenty of energy, and a nice acceptable trajectory?

Hes an angler first and foremost. Work on becoming the best shot with a bow then. Problem solved.
@The_Judge300
@The_Judge300 3 күн бұрын
An animal is NOT a stationary target that never moves. So it doesn't matter at all how good of a shot you are at long ranges as the animal can very well move a foot or more during the arrow flight at long shots. Or it can turn towards or away from you. It takes a LONG time for an arrow to travel 100 yards, no matter how light it is. So, the problem is far from solved. Does it help a lot to be the best shot? Of course it does, but that is mainly at ranges where the natural movement of the animal during the arrow flight does not matter.
@progradepainting3755
@progradepainting3755 3 күн бұрын
@@The_Judge300if you’re that worried about movement, especially if you run giant, loud vanes to steer a giant fixed broad head, then you should just put the bow down and pick up a crossbow, or a rifle. You have to accept that animals move in bowhunting. If you’re uncomfortable with the fact that you might make a bad shot sometimes, even if you practice every day, then bowhunting is not for you. Problem solved.

@@progradepainting3755is your argument to not shooting long distances seriously "you need to be okay with wounding animals sometimes to bowhunt"...? Get closer for the love of God. Your same argument is used against you here bud, if you want to shoot game at long distances you should get a rifle
@progradepainting3755
@progradepainting3755 2 күн бұрын
@@madwe2269 long distance is subjective. It depends upon skill and the draw weight you can shoot. For some guys, their skill level with a bow is so low, they shouldn’t even go into the field with a bow at all. And bowhunting, by its very nature, is a difficult and imperfect way to harvest animals. No matter how close you get, it’s not always going to work. And getting too close can be just as much of a problem as being too far from the animal. That’s the reality of it, whether you like it or not. You’re not going to make a primitive hunting method perfect all of the time. If you’re that afraid of wounding an animal, you need to get out of the woods all together, the fear of that is on you, not me.
