Hey mate any update on this rifle. I am also looking to a get a 300 PRC Howa like yours.
@hardantlerhunting96919 сағат бұрын
Sorry man, I used it in my Chamois Video, but the latest update is I sold it. If you check my other vids, you'll find it but went back to my 284 Winchester
@simonni44839 сағат бұрын
@@hardantlerhunting9691 Ah I see. If you don't mind me asking why did you end up selling it?
@hardantlerhunting96919 сағат бұрын
@simonni4483 Well, the Stockys carbon stock was a piece of junk. The rifle shot well, but velocity was down with RL26 handloads. Overall, I was not impressed with the rig. My 284 Winchester ballistically is better in everyday with the 180 eldm so out it went. Too many dramas with the Howa and disappointment with the catridge. It's more or less a remarked 300 win mag...nothing special
@WillyK512 күн бұрын
You should have kept it to what is comercially available in NZ. And put them into a Rifle action size. 7SAUM and 7WSM(6,8 Western) 7-08 in short actions, 280AI, 28 Nosler, 7WBY and 7PRC in long 3.34" action and 7RUM and 7STW in a 3.8" mag action. I personally would choose a 7RM(Because it's so available world wide) in a 3.8" Mag Action to seat long bullets. No need for fast twist barrel (1 in 9 perfect)as the heavy bullets would be from 160 to 175Grns(Max 180 grns)

That’s a schmick looking set up and the 284 is such an underrated cartridge. It didn’t get a great start in life because it was originally put in lever actions but with the rebated rim and big case capacity it’s such a sleeper. Nearly built one myself but got a magnum action given to me so heading down the 7 PRC rabbit hole. Great vid, thanks for putting it together.

@Australian.Hunting.Backcountry very true. I see, i think if I built a magnum 7mm, it would be a 3.6 OAL 28 nosler or RUM....one day, one day

Mean. Thanks for the review. You should have a look at Southern Lite Packs if your thinking of dyneema and hunting. I prefer a pack with a meat shelf, so much more functional. The Exo's compress down to the range of bag sizes you have through compression straps. Can't understand the hammock- so much gear and weight that a tent would adequately cover - you'd need less puffer gear too. Love the Macpac vest, just so functional. I had a Hilleberg Soulo so understand your reluctance to use a light tent (10d is too light) in the tops! Just a thought for all your electronics at night. I made up a bag using a car windscreen foil and foil tape, put in a hand warmer at night, and shove all my batteries, electronics in there, instead of in my puffer and quilt. To save some coin, buy Granola, add milk powder, nuts and cranberry - store in a zip lok bag. That collapsible cup is a meal serve size, so just add water, super yum. Like your cooker set up. I can't ditch my Jetboil Stash pot as it boils in half the time over a standard pot/cup - so more efficient on gas on longer trips. Matt @ MTN Gear is the man. Bring a small warehouse pan (remove the handle) and vacuum sealed real home made food - start frozen and your good, heavier but hey. Oh yeah. Worth it. Last point - your still missing a hunting dog. Go on....
@hardantlerhunting96916 күн бұрын
Good points, man. The hammock makes sense when you see the terrain I hunt. A flat spot is non-existent and shooting from dug out blinds. Appreciate the comment man, twas a goody 👍

Hey bro is the chassis drilled and tapped to add a decent bag rider on the butstock? Also what’s the shortest suppressed barrel you could run? 17”?
@hardantlerhunting96916 күн бұрын
Hey man, I don't believe so, but I'm sure MDT has a solution for that. Barrel length, are you asking in the 284 win catridge or something else. I've run barrels down to 12 inches in 284, 10inches in 308 win and many other cartridges and calibers. If you send a follow-up question, I'll try to help on something more specific. Thanks

Considered going to the arca MTN bipod? Weight difference in not adding the pic rail would mean total weights pretty much the same but you can slide the bipod way down the rifle when transporting and have a cleaner underside for shooting from a pack etc.
