I just purchase a used Samsung SmartThings Hub for $10. I want to have my GOVEE H5074 Thermometer-Humidity device trigger an internet alert text OR email when over a preset temperature [to tell me the refrigerator isn't working]. I've listened to your excellent video tutorial. Thanks for the wisdom. I got the API Key by email as recommended. Is this worth pursuing for my H5074 devices? Thanks - Jim near St. Louis MO.

Watched this video out of frustration today….not being able to get my Samsung cameras back on to my st hub. Stalling at registration page over and over…tried 3 devices to ensure it wasn’t a problem on my end. Just wanna know what I can switch to that will port over my Samsung cameras and have a better ui and work with Apple Watch cellular that my family uses. So tired of devices that need their own stupid little hub to be part of the network (Lutron), WUUK doorbell or another app you have to link to hub to control outlets (globe), Lutron and WUUK.

If you can find a system that doesn't cost you money monthly through the hard drives you'll have to buy when they fail, or a system that doesn't require an in-home Network, then you should let people know about that. And if you're paying money for Wi-Fi, you are nuts. I hope you're only paying for internet

Recently I found out why my Eufy SoloCam S40 and Solar Wall Light S120 would not record to HomeBase 3, because Eufy security is asking for my permission to access my phones mic and camera in order to record. I would not allow this. This is a security risk and my privacy violation. Obviously Eufy lied to us about the settings!!

I think they are planning to, at some point, totally replace the Google Assistant with Gemini, which would incorporate AI in Nest. Having said that... I still can't bring myself to make the switch to Alexa. I have this idea of me catering my Google account for so many years that at this point I feel married to them. Not only that, but I have given Google all this data for so many years, am I ALSO gonna share it with Jeff? Ugh...

I have a BUNCH of Govee products. I tried the Homey Pro community app, but it didn't work well enough, so I uninstalled it and am currently just using the Govee app, buttons, or Amazon Alexa to control them. THANKFULLY, Govee & Homey are working on an official Govee app. No date for release, but they are currently in development phase. Can't wait!

Great video. I really hope that Homey matures rapidly and supports more brands common in the USA. Sadly, last time I checked their site they were lacking several of the brands I own, especially Meross. Since the decline of the Alexa ecosystem (and my own growing needs) I have branched out to include Google Home and Smartthings. Now my home feels very fragmented. It would be nice to once again have everything working and automated under one hub with the ease of use that Amazon used to be.

Thank you for a great review what seems to be finally a great product. There's been a vacuum in this field for ages and this devices seem to fill the void left because there are hardly good cameras out there that could offer all of these features (as partially hitting a few of them won't cut it for many of us): 1) High quality (not just resolution) in daylight as well as night and low light conditions, 2) No forcing into cloud-only storage or subscription-based AI features, 3) Ability to store locally, mainly NAS rather than microSD (often unreliable and easy to steal), 4) Good AI feature-set also able to detect objects, animals, humans, 5) Work quickly as far as responsiveness and saving, over wifi, 6) Good set of features for automation and easy to manage settings, 7) Good range to cover small and large properties, 8) Decent price point If nitpicking, I'd want to better the mounting options. While I understand the magnetic holder (well engineered nevertheless) as it could be used inside a house perhaps, but I'd never use one even indoors since I'd want to make it as difficult as possible to physically remove the device from where it's been mounted. In fact I'd love if there was an option to place them in a more tamperproof and theft-deterring casing which could achieve maximum concealment so that they'd be even hard to spot.

The PROBLEM is switching hubs is a complete NIGHTMARE when using Alexa! Now you will have DOUBLE/TRIPPLE devices that show up and have to go in and delete all the obsolete ones! BIG pain in the ass! This is WHY I've stuck with the Smart-things platform at this point! Plus deleting and reconnecting everything is a MAJOR hassle and could take DAYS! I am not willing to go through the grief of doing this. If if ain't broke WHY fix it???

Because it's a way of tying yourself to a non-profit rather than a company that can change, remove, stagnate, or paywall features. I want to have access and power with all my recordings and toggles and automations. I want to support things that will reliably work through an Internet outage (see random Homey issue with Weather API causing outage accidentally), I want to be able to upgrade the firmware and hardware at will. I have a Google Pixel, an Apple MacBook, a Linux desktop, a Samsung TV. There's too many pros and cons and subscriptions with random bugs. Plus the way Thread was handled and made Homey to self-implement rather than as a working partner (see tech blogs and Slack server). With Home Assistant I can have fun tinkering and it might be overwhelming and not for everyone. Plus I've seen your endorsements for Smart Things, had firsthand experience with Google, don't want to lock myself in to Apple, and don't know much about Amazon. It doesn't feel like anything new or exciting or reliable is coming. With HA i know the same things can be running the same way 5 years from now or someone will likely carry the torch to maintain it. Then again I've been using Firefox and the rest of the world switched to Chrome and fell out of love with Chrome. Also I'd love to see your opinion on Reolink doorbells

One of the best product demonstration videos that I have seen on KZfaq. Excellent well-paced video consisting of 4 hrs of step-by-step instructions that must have been tiresome to complete. Normally, I would skip through such a long video but I watched every minute and learned some features that I wasn't aware of. This is the type of video Amazon should be doing for their products. IMO, I think Amazon should link to your video and compensate you for time and effort in showing the features and setup of their products. I will be purchasing Amazon Echo to replace my Amazon tablet on the wall. Excellent work!

Speaking only with my opinion here. I frequently bang my head against the limitations of other platforms, and see that Home Assistant does not have those same limitations. But like any tool that is capable of infinite things, it is accompanied by infinite number of ways to do things. HA is getting better by the day, but it still has a ways to go to get to the point where all the automations are intuitive. Until that time, I rely on the community to help inspire me to think about the possibilities and how they can apply to my scenarios.

Some people use Home Assistant just because of the ultimate compatibility. But a lot of us like it for that, as well as sometimes you have to do some research and learn new things to make an integration or automation work. Whereas the entry level smart home client doesn’t want to have to work hard to make things work, some of us enjoy that part. I love your videos. You are the best. And so totally get and agree with and respect your view on smart homes, and that they should SAVE you time and not COST you time. But my experience, and I think most of the people begging you for videos has been, easy to setup initially, easy integrations with most products. The UI with automations has gotten a ton better. I don’t know YAML or how to code at all, but I can research and copy and paste. My favorite part of Home Assistant is finding a video where someone creates a product or automation that you never thought possible. You research and after a while of tinkering you get it to work. It’s such a great feeling of accomplishment. Some people build with wood, some with tech. Once I discovered ESPHOME and learned to solder, I was hooked. But here is the thing, we want our cake and eat it too. We love videos about Home Assistant giving us tutorials and new ideas. The best kinds of those videos are created by very smart people with creativity and personality. You have those in droves. We just want our favorite Smart Home KZfaqr to make videos about our favorite smart home environment, Home Assistant. I’m not saying you should, because again, your whole philosophy is about saving time for your life, not spending your life on your smart home. But I just wanted to give you what I think is the reason people keep asking you for the videos. I saw you put the vote out the other day and everyone immediately commented home assistant. We just love you too much. That’s gonna keep happening. Rest assured we’ll keep watching your videos whether you make more about Home Assistant or not.
