Filling in the tournament gaps between 2000 and 2002, Gonzaga followed up a seemingly lucky Elite 8 appearance with a Sweet 16 lost to Purdue in 2000, which had a pre-tournament 1932 championship, but has since been one of the other best programs to make a title game without a title in the tournament era. In 2001, Gonzaga lost in the Sweet 16 to a Tom Izzo coached Michigan State team that is STILL the last Big 10 team to win a championship. In 2002, my parents, both graduates of the U of Wyoming were cheering for Gonzaga against the jeers of family that I thought a bit too confident. I remember at the end of the game, the ball was a hot potato on offense for Gonzaga.

The Zags / UConn rivalry continues... UConn knocked them out in the Elite 8 in 1999, and against in 2023. The Gonzaga / UConn Battle in Seattle final was crazy... don't remember where I was but I was driving and the radio kept going in and out. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/md6PmJmDmbWWp3k.html

KLo should 10000% be in the hall of fame. I grew up as a Cleveland fan (Thome) and Lofton was easily the most feared lead off hitter in the game. He smoked line drives, was on base all the time, elite base runner and base stealer and elite defense. Lifetime .299 hitter in 8200 AB. Scored a ton of runs. I followed Thome to PHI when I was 14 going into 2003 season and got to see Lofton with the Phils in 2005. He hit .338 in 110 games. Dude is hands down a breed of player that no longer exists in MLB. He had I believe 13 seasons of OPS+ over 100 and a career WAR just under 70. By the way, I watched that entire August 2001 game vs. Seattle. I can fondly recall Joe Morgan in the bottom of the 7th commending Cleveland’s efforts to come back, albeit too late. It was the best game I ever watched! Went to Hall of Fame a year or two later and Jolbert Cabrera’s bat barrel was there, signed in gold marker by Cabrera himself.

Harold Baines, a good ballplayer until he was 42, compiled a lot of good lifetime stats, is in the Hall of Fame. Kenny is not. I doubt you could find one GM/Manager who wouldn't take Kenny over Harold in their primes any day of the week. The stat for measuring game impact, WAR, Harold: 38.8. Kenny 68.8. Not knocking Harold. Just that Kenny Lofton impacted the game positively, for his team, in so many different ways. He was special. Let's get him into the Hall!

Lofton, one of my all time favorites. I almost gave up on that Seatle game, but for some reason, I kept watching!! When he came back in 2007, he should have been allowed to round third in Boston. He does that, and we are going to the World Series.

I loved watching Lofton play, esp in Cleveland. As for the catch, I think the pad held just a little bit and he also had his left arm on top of the wall to help hold him up

As a kid from Cleveland, Kenny Lofton was my favorite player on those Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) teams. It’s a shame we never won a World Series back in the ‘90s.
