You did not show how the process works if you already have a SS login/password. I am not a new user! How do I get from logging in with my pre-2021 login over to login.gov? How do you link SS and Medicare under one login.gov?
@andystamas5 күн бұрын
Our video was released 2yrs ago and it's about creating your account from scratch (via Login.gov). SSA just last week announced they are transitioning away from the old SSA username login, so everyone will need to login through Login.gov or ID.me. If you don't have a Login.gov or ID.me account already, create one right there on SSA.gov and then the system will ask you to give permission to connect that account to SSA.gov. Once the whole process is done, you will no longer need the old username route to login. Also, SSA mentioned in their recent email about this change that the next time you login with your old username, the system should prompt you to now set it up through one of the two other routes.

@MedicareMindsetАй бұрын
If you're referring to Social Security Disability benefits, then after 24 months you'll be eligible for Medicare A&B. You'll get your Medicare card automatically about 3-4 months prior to the 25th month of disability benefits. And yes, you will pay for the Part B premium out of your SS disability benefits. The only folks who don't pay for Part B are those on state Medicaid health benefits as well.

Sorry for the delay. When you have LIS, it's more of "generic vs brand name" pricing. Depending on your level of LIS, the generics are usually only a few dollars up to $4-5 and then brand names are closer to $11.

Any tips on how to enroll in Medicare only? The screen shot in your video differs from the current options on the SSA website. Thank you so much for your input!

I figured it out. Since she didn’t sign up during her initial enrollment period when she turned 65, and open enrollment is closed, the system will not let her sign up for Medicare. Fantastic video! I have a quick question. I turned 65 in March and have medical coverage with my employer through June 30, so I want Medicare to begin July 1. This is as late as I can sign up during my IEP. Can I apply in May and specify a start date of July 1 in the note section or must I postpone my application until June 1 to get a start date of July 1. I’m worried about not getting my Medicare card in time to enroll in MedSup and Part D drug plan.
@MedicareMindset2 ай бұрын
In your case, the only way to get a 7/1/24 Part B start date, you would have to wait to submit the application until June. June is month 7 of your IEP, so enrolling that month will yield a 7/1/24 Part B start date. Do you have Part A already? If so, just turn in Form 40B in early June at your local SSA office. Note: They often try to tell people they need form L564 also, but kindly remind them that you are still in your IEP, so Form L564 is not required. If you don't have Part A yet, since it's already May right now...I would just wait until very early June to start and submit the application for A&B. Part A will backdate to 3/1/24 and Part B will automatically start 7/1/24. They will turn it around in time. But you'll likely need to get your Medicare # from your Benefit Verification Letter in your SSA account. You will see that much faster than the card will arrive by mail. I explain how to do that here: www.medicaremindset.com/proof Let me know if you have any other questions. If you prefer, you can just email me at [email protected]

But if he doesn't have group health insurance currently, he can enroll in Part A only right now...but he'll have to wait until the General Enrollment Period to add Part B (January 1st through March 31st, 2025).

@@MedicareMindset he has marketplace health insurance. He still need to apply for part A? And he don't have 40 quarters
@MedicareMindset2 ай бұрын
@@just4you3003 That's a tough one. If he applies for Part A, since he doesn't have the quarters, he will need to pay a premium for Part A (up to about $500/mo in 2024). Also, once he has Part A he can no longer get a premium subsidy (Advance Premium Tax Credits) when on a Marketplace plan. If there is any chance he can get to the 40 quarters in the next several years, he will probably need to just stay on the Marketplace plan until then. Once he has the quarters, then he can enroll in Part A without a premium and then also Part B (this will have a premium). If his income is really low, he may even qualify for Medicaid through his state department of Medicaid.

and now for... the rest of the story. So where do you think the money is going to come from to pay for these expanded benefits for "folks" with high drug costs? That's right, you guessed it. It will come from the plan costs going up for those with low drug use. So everyone is going to pay more for all RX plans to pay for these improved benefits for the "folks" that take lots of drugs. Many of these people in this situation are already getting their drugs mostly paid for through Medicaid. So this will be a windfall for the drug companies. This will save Medicaid programs money. So who gets stuck paying for the drugs? The majority of the people that don't currently have high drug costs. In addition; There will be less incentive for people to take less medication. There will be less incentive to use generic medication. Drug companies will be releasing new medications at higher costs as fast as they can that Medicare will have to cover. As usual this all sounds great but the devil is in the details.
@MedicareMindset3 ай бұрын
We agree that Part D plan premiums will have to go up in 2025, as the insurance carrier will be on the hook for a larger share of the cost after the Medicare beneficiary pays their $2,000 max in copays.

The spousal insurance terminated and we were not told, as the notice got to us after everything took place. The family member passed away and had not known to make anyone an authorized representative. Medicare says despite having POA of the spouse (incapacitated from a stroke), that I cannot update the cob issues because I am not the patient or their representative. The patient cannot do this because they are dead. Now the medical bills are rolling in, massive medical bills, and no one will pay them. What is the best way to address this?

I'm really sorry to hear what you and your family are going through. This is a challenging situation. If I understand correctly, this person is now deceased, so I feel like Medicare should be able to offer guidance on how to address this. @@MedicareMindset They stated only an executor appointed by the court can update cob information, but no will exists, and she still has a living spouse, so there really was not a need to declare an executor. So you can't just keep appealing every time you have a big year...correct? If Medicare does a 2-year lookback annually, won't your bracket automatically adjust? Once we all start taking RMDs won't we be in a higher bracket for the rest of our lives?
@andystamas3 ай бұрын
Right, you need to have an allowed Life Changing Event AND a reduction of income to a lower income range because of that event. The most common examples are a Work Stoppage, a Work Reduction, or a Death of Spouse. Outside of those, it's typically not going to work. RMDs definitely impact overall AGI, but that won't always mean you'll be in a higher AGI bracket for Medicare purposes. It certainly could, so you'll want to work with a financial advisor or CPA to help minimize the impact to Medicare premiums.
