So i have a technical problem with my scarlett. With output at default vol. setting, why is my headphone volume very low on the headphone output? I'm using a decent beyerdynamic headphone for monitoring. DAW volume is set at default as well.

bought MINI-MK3 keyboard and it is not working as expected. I press the SHIFT and only 3 orange and one green pads light up/ This is not what I saw in the tutorial vid. I tried to contact Novation 3 times and they completely ignorred. No response of any kind. Ytied the factory reset, but no luck. Try and check what mode the drum pads are in. With Ableton it has different modes, drums, live view control etc. most likely sounds like it’s your config in Ableton not the keyboard itself.

Is it possible to put a compressor or reverbo inside the Focusrite control software to effect all the audio interface output?

I can't get my 18i8 to output audio to outputs 3 and 4, I use reaper and know how to do it, but I can't get it to work with the Focusrite. I think the problem is within the Focusrite control, any suggestions?

Hi Trevor. I need some help with my scarlett 816 3rd gen and KRK rokit 7 monitors. When I plug my monitors into line outputs 1&2 on the back of interface, the sound from speakers is low - having to turn up monitor volume knob on interface to get some sound but sound is unbalanced; the right speaker is low and the left is louder. I've checked all levels on speakers and focusrite control and it seems fine. When I plug in left speaker into line output 3 and right into line output 4 the sound is good but I can't turn volume up or down using the interfaces monitor volume knob. I can control the volume on the computer in the focusrite control, line outputs 3&4. But it says that monitors need to be in line outputs 1 and 2 on back of interface. I'm very confused! - my current setup; I have korg minilogue xd into line inputs 5&6 and korg drumlogue into line inputs 3&4. Interface is plugged into macbook pro M1 2023.

Great video, thanks a lot! But i do have a question about the SPDIF out, I was thinking of buying this interface for playback of backingtracks (into my PA mixer) fx out1= bas - out2= drums - out 3+4= "stereo other instruments" and SPDIF out5= clicktrack - out6= cues. Do you think that routing is doable ? I would then use a small SPDIF to RCA DAC to convert to analog signal for my mixer

Thanks for this! Question- my son is 10 and is really into music. He has been watching artists online making music with this and other equipment and he wants to give it a go. I feel like this looks to be very complicated and not kid-friendly. Do you have any advice as to what I could start him on if he wants to make his own simple sounds?

It looks complicated as there are so many features but actually to do the basics it’s all you need, everything else is bonus. I think Ableton is confusing though I’d start him on garage band personally and take it from there

I like the Focusrite, I just dont care for their software control. I would rather have a mixer control. (like their old software or a updated version)

can I use 2 separate outputs like 1&2, 3&4 at the same time? I tried but no luck. I have two cards 1st gen and 3rd gen can I use two card with internal sync? I used the same with different cards but in this case the softwares are different for 1st gen and 3rd gen

My computer's cpu motherboard intel dh55pj usb mass storage disable because there is no usb drive for this cpu so the usb cable of Novation launchkey 61 mk3 has to be pulled out every time after turning on the computer,Any solution sir ?

Don't suppose you know if you can get channels 1-2 to come out of both of the headphone jacks? I've got channels 1-2 coming out of the left headphone jack and channels 3-4 coming out of the right headphone jack. I'm trying to use the right jack to sample the master from Ableton into my Digitakt

Hi there, by 1-2 and 3-4 i presume you mean inputs 1-2 and inputs 3-4 yes? If so what you need to do is click on the 'line outputs' 3-4 on the left of the software, then add inputs 1-2 under 'hardware inputs', so clicking on outputs 1-2 should look the same as outputs 3-4, if you see the VU meter going on both but still don't hear sound then check again on the left that it's not muted. I'm using 13:09 as reference here you can see the screen you need to be on. In short, the left headphone output corresponds to the jack outputs 1-2 on the back on the device, and the right headphone output corresponds to the jack outputs 3-4 on the back, so only by using software routing as mentioned here will you get the same outputs as it won't be by default. hope this helps. What I want to achieve is for software playback 1-2 to come out of both headphone outputs but I want software playback 3-4 to continue outputting on line outputs 3-4. I still can't work out how to do this. I can't find a way to customise the mix to achieve this unfortunately

@@freddiefranklin1 thanks that is clear now and sorry for delay reply. Right so here’s what you do: firstly add all the inputs you need you need in the routing section. Then using the mute/volume slider on the mixer of the inputs you want vs the output. You can’t remove the input from output 1-2 as it will remove it for outputs 3-4 so to get round it you use the mute/volume. I go through this approach in my video in section dual monitoring setup 32:33.

Great work Trevor! Newly subscribed. I ordered this unit today. All I really want to do is get some good audio from my iMac Apple Music stream and play my guitar along with it. So essentially a good jam along setup. Your use of the keyboard also got me thinking about buying an inexpensive keyboard so that I could work on my music theory a bit as well. Thanks again for making this video.

Hi hard to say without seeing it in front of me but sounds like you need to mute the hardware inputs section. Play around and gradually move each slider down until you get what you want. Cheers

@@TrevorSwayne Beyerdynamic DT900 PRO (250ohms). It's ok listening to music, KZfaq etc. But when it comes to producing music and mixing they aren't loud enough as I have my DAW at about -6db. So I need to boost the volume up more on the headphone output on the Scarlett. Got the volume on max and it's still not quite loud enough. My old Lexicon Alpha had no problem boosting volume right up.

@@K-M1 ah gotcha. Yh although some people have had luck with 200+ ohm it does seem the limit is 250. Is it better in that case to use different headphones or buy an amp, or different interface I wonder

I only had a non pro keyboard to show connection with 18:25, but the principle is the same even with a pro keyboard. From what others tell me the line level is quite low so you may find yourself turning line out volume up to get a good signal into the rear inputs.

Hello Trevor. I'm new in audio interface and i need help. I have Fractal FM3 connect by SPDIF to scarlett 8i6. FM3 & scarlett by usb to pc. MY guitar direct to FM3. Scarlett out to monitors and headphones. I don't understand focus control inputs & outputs and in spanish there aren't videos tutorials. I need that by monitors and headphones ear my guitar sounds through the FM3-SPDIF-SCARLETT and other sounds for example of youtube, etc from PC. AND can RECORD IN reaper my guitar. What is the configuration in & outs in focus control and reaper?. CAN YOU HELP ME?

Sorry I don’t fully understand but I’d say best thing to do is just play around with the focusrite control software and also make sure the inputs and outputs are setup in the DAW and that the correct device is selected. Also it’s worth noting you can download the user manual on the focusrite website and from what I recall they were translated as well. All the best anyway!

can you solve my problem? i need to play two keyboards at the same time in a live session. i need to send the signal from the scarlett 8i6 to a mixer (mackie 1202VLZ4), but at the same time i need to record the audio of the keyboards (two separate stereo audio) in a DAW. How can i do it without latency (on pro tools it doesnt matter, but it matters if i have latency in the live). thanks a lot

Hi sorry sounds complex but I’ll do my best to understand and answer. So the 8i6 puts out zero latency as standard from whatever you’ve got going into it, therefore the keyboards should be fine when output goes from 8i6 to mackie. You just have to make sure you’re using the output from the focusrite control software and not the daw output, which should be fine as you’re only recording there anyway right. If that didn’t work how you want could you not send the keyboards to the mixer and then an output from mixer back into the 8i6?

Sorry to hear that, i must admit until you get your head round the software it is a little confusing, the interface is pretty straightforward though you just plug and play, it's only when you want a specific feature you need to do the research. If this video wasn't helpful either check the manual to the device (link in description) or just play around with it and you'll figure it out. Cheers

Thank you very much for this video! Small question: on min 33:24 you show the outputs channels selection, and I'm wondering: what does output 5-6 do? Can you use that? If I'm not mistaken the 8i6 has only 4 outputs (and 2 headphones at the front), if you activate 5-6 what happens? I'm looking for an audio interface with at least 6 outputs and I was wondering if the 8i6 would work :) thanks a lot!

Hi there. Good question. So technically speaking the 8i6 has 6 outputs that why you see 5-6, however 5 and 6 are actually SPDIF outputs not line. So if you needed more than 4 line you’d need a bigger interface yes. Also just in case my video wasn’t clear, the headphones share the channels so doubt count as their own outputs. E.g. headphone 1 uses channel 1-2 as per output on the back and headphone 2 uses channels 3-4 as per line outs on the back. Hope that helps

Can you use the Novation Launchkey Mini MK3 standalone without a computer? I know, it need to be usb powered, but I want to use it without Ableton. Does it has sounds in it already?

Great question it would be awesome but unfortunately there’s no sound card in it, this device is just a midi controller and needs a computer. What you’re after is the standard launchkey. Check the Novation website
