Jordan's repetitions are legendary. His wife was the editor so he did what he wanted to. I respect an author writing what he or she wants to, but the author should always strive to get better. It's a legendary series, but also a slog to read through.

No, I've never done a ban. I tend to read books as soon as I buy them, but I usually only buy one at a time. Occasionally, I might have a spurt of 2 or 3 books at the same time.

Good summary! I also need to know what the Typhoon Struggle is. The pacing of this book is awesome, feels very modern. And all of the threads being concluded in the end was amazingly well done.

I started reading this series and made it as far as book 3 (Memories of Ice) before dropping it. I give it credit for its uniqueness and scope, but the violence is just ludicrous. It makes ASOIAF seem like a fairytale. It has some of the least likable characters I've ever read, and I'd say I had no clue what was going on through about 75% of the first book and about 40% of the second book. There are two characters and an entire plot thread in the second book where I still don't know what their purpose was. I had heard the second book was rough but to just get through it to the third, but unfortunately I found the third book possibly worse. I'm a huge fantasy guy and this series came highly recommended so immense disappointment for me. Yes, Erickson is a brilliant writer as far as turn of phrase and use of language goes, but I've long since learned that great writing does not mean a great story. For me, once you start crucifying children, I have to give your series a hard pass.

Just landed on your channel. I was looking for some standalones. I just started my journey in the fantasy genre and I started with the Mistborn trilogy. Got already hooked and 128 pages in... I've heard that warbreaker should be read right after reading the way of kings. So, I'm gonna hold that one for later. Priory of the orange tree has piqued my interest. I'm thinking of putting it in my tbr after I finish the mistborn series. I'm glad to cone across your channel. And, don't worry about your hair, dear. You look perfectly fine. Love from India. ❤ 🇮🇳

I just listen to this book (twice) and I loved it so much for the same reasons you mentioned. I really liked the sex scenes tbh. I think they are realistic and just part of what the characters felt and needed. I have read and listened to so many negative reviews of the book. It seems that many readers reduce the book to the romance part (well… I guess there IS a lot of romance). Anyway, looking for recommendations. This was exactly the book I like to read!

I'm on chapter 16. It's a decent book so far but I don't like how slow it is. It takes forever to get to the point. I think the author just wants us to get to know the other characters first.

I didn’t mind the slog until I got to this one and I felt like I ran into a brick wall Honestly just the fact that half of the book takes place on the same day, a day which we had already seen in the previous book no less! Like wtf, can something please happen alredy?

I will not abide the Bull slander. He's a great character the only issue is he's so introspective and that isn't an issue at all. But yeah imo this is the best book of the first 3.

I'm astonished to find this interview NOW after 3 years and also after 7 years of me from my first reading of “Gardens of the Moon”. Stephen Erickson should be the least of the writers to explain nor give excuses for weak character creation criticism at all!. he might be the most thorough detail driven writer delimiting characters on his books and specially in these 10 books series. I have to say … me, living in a remote small country, having a signed book from him is the biggest treasure one nerdy boy could ever have dream to have. I was that boy, later in my 30s thrown back in time to a feeling of wonder and awe just like in the early days of my night readings. Thank you, Brittany and Mr. Erickson (sorry for taking 3 years to actually say this) for this wonderful brief opportunity to be near your ideas directly from you! such a great interview!

Great inspiration, I really liked seeing the food that you are preparing and when you showed your lunch (I have walked by the protein bar section at Trader Joe's and have wondered which bar would be good, I will have to try the one that you featured in your video)! Love your review style - you are entertaining to watch. Amazing - How do you read AND walk on the treadmill? That's a talent unto itself! I've tried the stationery bike, but never the treadmill -- you are an inspiration, maybe I'll try that! Love your decorating style - we have similar taste in design. Great choice to shorten the nails, you had an instant status upgrade... that was a major transformation! I'm a makeup artist and I would recommend to lighten your foundation/base makeup - to match your neck. Go in to a department store, have a makeup artist match the color of your neck -- get a sample of that color. Find the color in your favorite foundation formula. It will make a big difference in how you show up on the camera - and in person! If you want to add contour to the neck area, you can go a shade or two darker with powder, but I would definitely match your face foundation to your neck/chest color...that's a "red carpet" makeup artist recommendation that a lot of people don't know about, but will make a big difference. Congratulations on the bravery to remove your tattoos. I like some tattoos, but in most cases, I feel that tattoos complicate the fashion image. Yes, there are some people who CAN wear them, and it adds to the mystique of who they appear to be, but for the most part -- I don't think that most people can carry off that look. You appear more classic than the tattoo type. Your decorating style is very classic modern, so just looking at that -- I could see you without the tattoos, more than with them. I enjoyed your book reviews, thank you for taking the time to create this book review video!

It’s possible that the overall publishers’ size trend could be more a case of ‘right sizing’ than ‘down sizing’. Despite their strengths, serious arguments can be made that some of the series you cite have size/scale related issues, eg, Wheel of Time (loses its way through the slog), Malazan (unwieldy, incomprehensible plot-lines), Game of Thrones (author incapable of completing the series). These issues can tax the patience of the readership, and publishers take note accordingly. Sometimes less is more TBH.

I didn't find Duncan's sacrifice sad... It was a genious move to dishonour Stillgar to get him moving, and thus protecting Ghanima. Duncan is probably the best person in these books 😂

I'm what you could call a veteran fantasy book reader, and just reading book one blew me away. It was almost exactly what i wanted it to be. And no book has ever peaked my curiosity and interest quite like gardens of the moon. It was a challenge, but the type of challenge that is relished. Knowing its up to you to understand, and no one is going hold your hand, much like in real life. All that said I am unbelievably excited to finish the rest of the series, can't wait to learn more and dive deeper into it all.
