I just bought 2- Bessey 4" Deep Reach ratcheting spring clamps at Home Depot yesterday, 2/5/2024, and I'm disappointed. I have to agree with @bradkrit. I can't get them to put enough force to hold 2 of anything without slipping. I came to youtube hoping a video would show me I was somehow using them wrong, but I see nothing different then how I tried to use them.

You're still charging an arm and a leg for this tool, but the manufacturing has been moved to China, and it shows. If I want to buy Chinese cr*p, which I don't, I would expect to pay peanuts, not the price of a tool manufactured in the US or Germany. Really, Bessey, by moving production to a country that doesn't care about quality, environmental standards or human rights, you lost me as a customer.

I hammered this down very hard and the clamp would not budge.

I tell you what i have beaten the holy dog crap outta that same bessey vice and shes still just like when i took it outta the box. Minus the dings and whatnot.. first one i got had a hairline crack in the main body but after notifying bessey of it they sent me another no problem. And this one has been running strong and well used. For a few years now, and yes it gets used as a press, anvil, break and vice as well.. ive put the squeeze on it with a 3’ pipe and didnt even bend the bar.. good damn vice for a good damn price.. and im not affiliated with them or gotten any incentive to comment on their shit either,. If i did then they wouldnt pay me if i said shit. Or fuck and all that.. so yea, from the truth of a metal worker and mechanic.. buy ye a bessey..

I recently bought the five inch model. One thing I am very displeased with is that the fixed jaw does not protrude out far enough. You cannot clamp a log item that extends below the work bench surface. If I had noticed this before installation, I would have returned it.

Nice, yes this is often the case early on but doesn't solve why they won't hold later on. Got a situation of those little threads on the inside of the clamp have been worn down. Can access one easily with an alan key but the other is very hard to access. Looked at the parts list and can't find replacements either.

I have these clamps and I find them to be useful. One thing that I would like to know: what is the purpose of the circular bump on the top side of the clamp, inside corner. There are very small letters that say “tube 20x3” If anyone can explain this, I would be glad to know more.

I have several, of which, two of them the screw threads in the jaw stripped, which rendered them useless.

Nice job. One thought...if doing a dye or stain...sanding the glue off may not be enough to keep from getting uneven stain or blotch areas. How about a slightly damp rag after the scraping off procedure?
