Build a second container with drip tubing so you can can double the reservoir size and you can fill both from second tote.

I tried hydrogel will kill the plants roots system as it will not allow any oxygen, also when it is in contact with soil it releases the water and dissolves as soon as it comes in contact with calcium in soil. So there is no agricultural usage and don't benefit in any agricultural . Also if you use chemical hydrogel it will pollute the soil and healthy microbes in soil will die. So friends research properly and don't buy any hydrogel products

You need a float valve in a separate 5 gallon bucket that is fed from a larger reservoir of solution.

in the field watermelon needs about 1liter of water per plant and per day after the first month , i wonder if it's the same amount of water in hydroponics

I get a few burns on my watermelon vine. They're so vigorous though they recover. Probably most aggressive plant I seen grow aside from fruit trees

Have you tried using DWC for a pumpkin plant? I know it's late but I'm going to start one and learn for next year. Im afraid that the plant will drink to much water and I'll be left with hit nutrients using kratky due to the heat here in central Texas. Any input would be appreciated.

What if you use orbeez in place of hydrogel?

Hydrogel is of course not a SUBSTRATE! Hydrogel is introduced into the substrate (soil) before planting and when watered with water in which fertilizer is mixed, the liquid is absorbed by the hydrogel and the plant has access to water and nutrients all the time without stress when there is too much water and too little over time. The war is much better and the harvest much more plentiful. The hydrogel is biodegradable and stays in the soil for up to eight years. It then decomposes. Not harmful to the environment! New Sub here. Very impressive that you got a pollination and growth on the DWC setup with an AG plant. I'm a giant pumpkin/vegetable grower for many years. I also experiment with hydro projects. I had massive success with indoor fogponic cucumbers, I'm sure you would enjoy the video I made documenting the start to finish results. I could give 2 tips that might of saved your plant. 1. Aerate the growing solution with an airstone. 2. Bury the bin in the ground so the lid is level with the ground. This will drop the temp of your nutrient solution dramatically and give a much better chance at healthy roots. DWC roots want to be cold and aerated. Just my thoughts! :) great job man!
