I have a question, is any firmware stored on the chip/IC itself? I got a dumb special mainboard with a busted chip (with a regular RTD2556), and was wondering if only soldering on a new RTD2556 would be enough. Or do I need to flash the MCU again? I thought it stored all the settings on an external SPI flash. Also couldn't I directly backup the data by using an SPI reader?
@LaserBearIndustries
@LaserBearIndustries 4 ай бұрын
I'm not sure I can answer fully, I think the firmware is stored in an external flash. When flashing it looks for specific flash chips, unless you select the fallback option. If you can get into the spi you might be able to flash the bare binary. This firmware takes 6 of the banks in the flash. You may need to reflash the MCU there may be something on it that needs to be flashed.

I bought the kit and put it together with the help from this video im currently using it on a twin famicom and it seems to start pressing random button presses at random times whether i use a snes or nes controller. For examble bubble bobble player 1, when ever they jump id say about 2/5 of the time they'll shoot a bubble while jumping even though the jump button is the only one being pressed. Anither example would be mario 3 using the SNES controller on the over world map one press of the right or left dpad will cause the opposite dorection to bebpressed or even somwtomenthe b button to be oressed as well. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? I love this product and im hoping i can find a way to correct this inconveniences. Thank you for a great product.

@LaserBearIndustries this might be a long shot but have you considered having a WiFi interface you can connect to what ever WiFi you want via touchscreen with an onscreen keyboard and then that works with picoboot to emulate the broadband adapter? Not sure if it's possible but just an idea

@@dobsonator this project does include WiFi, but will not be able to interface as a broadband adapter replacement. why do the sync rates stop at 63mhz ? alot of industry, medical and Dos based equipment ran i text mor 80colum 70mhz and there are very few monitors that support that these days. is it a limitation of the chip or the fact it was never really intended for VGA standards.
@LaserBearIndustries
@LaserBearIndustries 5 ай бұрын
Apple is the reason, these displays were manufactured to apple's specs for the iPad, which ran at 60hz, I'm actually surprised it can go down as low as 40hz. The panel uses an eDisplayPort interface for connectivity and that is the limiting factor on framerate. If the panel was LVDS you can usually overdrive them until the pixel response time is the limiting factor so 70 ot 80hz would probably be doable even if a bit smeary. The eDP controller will not sync anything over 63hz and instead just switched to a solid white screen.

The NESRGB outputs RGB video in a way that’s already spec’d for consumer devices… meaning you only need a straight cable with no components. Meanwhile, a NTSC SNES spec multi-out cable would have 220uF capacitors on each RGB channel. Until recently I thought that you had to change some components on the NESRGB to make it output SNES-spec RGB for SNES-spec cables through the multi-out… like remove some capacitors from the board and bridge them. I must’ve been thinking of some other mod accessory because none of the multi-out installation instructions I can find mention the specification mismatch except for the ones installing a Genesis/MD2 multi-out. Is this somehow not a consideration for properly made SNES-spec cables? I ask because according to the NESRGB instructions the straight cables I made are correct and I don’t want to break them open and rebuild with capacitors if I don’t have to.
