And all metal bands went down in early 90ies because of Grunge. Metal nearly died but not Metallica because they had Bob Rock guiding them through the black album. At the start sad but true was supposed to be way faster and nit as heavy

I grew up on the 2004 remixes, but when I discovered the originals it made me appreciate the albums even more. The 2004 remixes IMO are fucking awful. Too compressed, sampled drums, even re-recorded parts at times. It reminds me of the special editions of Star Wars….

I knew Patrick would enjoy Dave's vocals :D Perfectly reasonable and understandable how vocals can threw any enjoyment of music out da window but one thing I kinda dont understand - why you all, especially present Chris seemingly didnt enjoy riffs. While you all as far as I remember enjoyed "72 seasons" riffs who lets be clear was pretty bland and random IMO if we look at what Metallica have done. I really like how Rust in Peace sounds, their production and sound improved greatly with this album compared to all of 80s albums who sounded pretty shitty. After that I think Megadeth production was very good. I thing Patrick would enjoy Youthanasia (94), Hidden Treasures (95) and Cryptic Writings (97) from production standpoint. And after Risk, that should be banned, it was good as other Chris mentioned with The System Has Failed. IMO Endgame (2009) is the closest musically Megadeth has come to Rust in Peace, love that album to death. Last two albums sound very similiary, very modern metal as you mentioned. If you enjoyed Dystopia, you will enjoy last album, too. I prefer Dystopia I'd recommend Anthrax greatly but god forbid dont touch first two albums - production sucks! Their 3rd album is known as their Master of Puppers or Rust in Peace - their best. But I think you should listen to anything from their 1990 album Persistence of Time - that is theirs Black Album IMO. I think Patrick will enjoy it very much

I’ve been watching this channel for a while now and have a bad tendency to watch your videos from front to back 😂. Anyway as someone who has probably seen like 50 hours of you guys listening to music and talking I have some thoughts. I would love to see you do a ‘audio engineers listen to thrash metal’ video, and listen to a compilation of thrash bands and see how the production was differnt between bands, and globally, because the way things were produced seems to differ with both age and location it seems. I would reccomend Slayer, Sodom, anthrax, testament, perhaps a more modern band as well like Municipal waste, it would be interesting to see how these bands vary both musically and in terms of production, and how time and location of the bands links to that too. For example Sodoms early stuff, despite being late 80s, sounds like stuff from the early 80s, and this seems true for a lot of german stuff. Additionally if you ever want more hands to listen to, I would say do Tool with caution. Tool fans are psychopathically obsessive, if you thought Zeppelin fans were bad, you know nothing. They only have five albums, so I would start with their first one if it were me, however if you only wish to do one video on tool, do lateralus. But yes you will be ripped apart for talking over it, being negative, so be prepared for that backlash. I also think you should Definelty listen to Death, whose last two albums are absolutely stellar front to back, and Gojira and mastodon. To me Gojira don’t have amazing albums front to back, but they have a lot of amazing songs across their discography. Mastodon I would say the same for, but mastodon are great as well. Both Gojira and mastodon came out within the last 25 years or so and have roots in death metal, but mastodon certainly and Gojira to a lesser extent have moved away from that genre to prog if anything. Furthermore, you absolutely need to give the band camel a listen, if it’s not on video then whatever, their first album, sumplu called: camel, and their second: Mirage, are really excellent front to back, and will be a good change of pace from what you normally listen to. Blur sucks, and oasis are worse. What else did I want to say while I’m here, oh yeah you should listen to more zeppelin because you’re wrong 😂😂. Please listen to King Crimson as well!!! The court of the crimson king is seen widely as one of the best albums of all time, and I agree. It’s produced not amazingly, especially on epitaph, but I love how the drums sound, and have never understood why, so a breakdown on that I would love so much. Also listen to MF DOOM and Nothing But thieves. Anyway, glad to see you seem better and better spirited Patrick. Your impression of Mustaine grunting in front of an orchestra made me laugh like mad. See you around.

I first started to listen to metal and hard rock on cassette, so "polish" is not what I want when listening to classic Megadeth. I want raw energy, cranked up loud, not over processed. That is why I do not listen to as much 2000's and beyond Megadeth. Opinions are like... y'all know the saying. I respect all three of y'all opinions. I personally think they're crap, but that's also my opinion. Comparing Metallica to Megadeth is like comparing Iron Maiden to Judas Priest, sound wise. It's apples and oranges. It's fruit. It's metal. James has a different voice than Dave. I love early Metallica as well as James sound on those earlier albums. Not as much as Megadeth. But James changing his vocals is one reason I don't listen to anything after "And In Justice For All." Metallica uses the standard verse chorus for many songs. Dave's writing style, in many albums, his songs have no chorus. It's more story telling then "pop" metal. Your four songs choices. 'Crush 'Em'. Not a favorite. Too cheese for me. 'Peace Sells...' This song was Megadeth's break though song and even had a video. The song's beginning with Dave responding to the "pious" majority who repeatedly condemned Metal as Satan music and those who listened to metal as trash. Read the lyrics, you will even understand. I was a teenage in 1980. I heard this all the time. The song also has political overtones during the second half. 'Holy Wars... The Punishment Due' is one of the most popular Megadeth songs recorded. The song has no chorus. There are 3 solos. Dave's voices are pushing the higher end of his range here. 'Sweeting Bullets' is a song about having voices in your head. Watch the official video, as others have suggested. The song is odd, but in context with the video, makes sense. 'Head Crusher' was a torture device, like a clamp, which was often used until death. Dave became "Born A gain" in the earlier 2000's and his writing changed for a time. 'Dystopia' received better reviews than many of the other 2000's albums, though I still prefer the earlier material. Dave's solos. There were several comments made on Dave's solos. It was brought up, "what were Dave's influences". Born in 1961, he listen to music from mid 60's until the late 70's, Be influenced by bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Motörhead. His style evolved from playing music from those bands. Heavy in pentatonic scales and blues, but he uses chromatic scales in many runs. He has been known to use modes, Dorian and Phrygian, at times. The Big 4.... Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer are all California bands. Anthrax is from New York. Their sound evolved more from Hardcore punk, which was thriving in New York at the time. Anthrax helped pioneer the "rap metal" music of the 1990's, for good or bad. Each band also has a different sound. Like I wrote above, you would never listen to Slayer and think that's Metallica or Megadeth. Same with Anthrax. Anthrax was my introduction to Thrash in the late 80's. Megadeth came next. Metallica and finally Slayer. As for other major Thrash Metal bands, like Exodus, Testament, and Overkill, I just never got into those bands. I did buy a few Nuclear Assault albums on cassette. Dirk Verbeuren does channel some Nick Menza (RIP) and Gar Samuelson (RIP) in his playing, but that's because both drummers were so influential in Megadeth's sound while in the band. You can hear that as well as his own style in the newest Megadeth album, "The Sick, The Dying... And the Dead". As long as you do not use an official videos and the music only, y'all should not have problems uploading Megadeth songs.

GREAT album! Was very cool to listen to this again along with you. Welcome to my favorite rap sub-genre: Conscious hip-hop. I personally prefer Tribe's Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders to this one, but it's a solid debut. It's a shame you didn't dig De La Soul as 1991's De La Soul Is Dead is my favorite hip-hop album of all time, but to each their own. The last 80s to the mid 90s are by far my favorite era of rap. A little after the turn of the century, the sound and vibe of hip-hop changed and I didn't care for it. As far as recommendations, check out the rest of the Native Tongues group: Jungle Brothers, Monie Love, Queen Latifah, Black Sheep, and Chi-Ali. Also, look into Kid 'N Play, The Pharcyde, Young MC, and Shaquille O'Neal's so-bad-it's-good Shaq Diesel album.
