Was needing to replace the seals in mine and stumbled on this video while looking for another issue. Thank you for the well detailed visuals.

Some times mud and dirt can get in there and the only way to get it out is to take the footvalve out throught the top and clean it

Hi there, I am a subscriber to your channel. A year or two back your did a video on your cat track loader. I’m having trouble with my cat 226b hand throttle. The throttle quit working the other day, and now I only have the foot throttle, which I do not like to use. Would you mind showing a novice like myself how to replace that hand throttle cable? There are no tutorials out there on how to do it.

The internal seal on a cat 257b looks like there is no way to get it out. I'm totally stumped. It's insane. Have you done a 257b? Not the piston seals. The one behind the dust seal.
@DMtec1012 ай бұрын
No i haven't, but if you get some sharp long pics that how i get the gland seals they can be a challenge sometimes
@kelvis19802 ай бұрын
@DMtec101 well lucky for me, the gland seals were still good. Replaced all the others so it's back in action. I've done a few ram repairs, but the 257b is a total joke in comparison to others. Thanks for the reply 👍

How much is a dozer undercarriage rebuild?
@DMtec1012 ай бұрын
It usually depends on the size of the dozer and the brand of parts you put on it, on the komatsu d51 with oem parts was 35k and a week's worth of labor.

Thanks for the video. I replaced the poppets and now I can’t seem to figure out the boots. How do they stay in place? I try to tuck them into the base but it won’t stay
@ropnjessi3 ай бұрын
Yes use a large zip tie around the base, make sure all the rubber is tucked in.
@DMtec1012 ай бұрын
Sometimes they suck to keep them down, if you get a zip tie and rap the bottom of the boot with 2 of them you can suck them in and down, i do that with older machines.

Just a word from someone who's changed a dozen of these, skip the gasket, just use Right Stuff from permatex, and buy the factory Cummins pumps, last about 3x as long as most aftermarket. Happy fixing and keeping the fleet alive.

A nice pre filter or an electric bomb with filter could avoid the headache

So were you able to purchase just the rubber seals, or did you have to buy the complete plunge kit? Thx
@DMtec1012 ай бұрын
Ya you can get the seal kits from a cat dealer.

That was an EXCELLENT demonstration of how they work and why its a wear item.... It would be cool if there was a way to just squirt a little dry graphite into the face's gap to lubricate the metal faces from time to time.... Thanks for recording and showing this (and explaining) 👍 🍻

I miss hydraulics. It was fun sometimes. But oily as hell. Such a simple idea and execution. I spent 10 years building and maintaining hydraulic systems for oilfield equipment.

Your joy stick if it is electric, has gone bad, and is no longer reading its position, i would replace it if you haven't already.

Just did this on a '12 259B3. As far as removing the universal joint, take off the metal rod that the handle bolts through by loosening up the nut and threading it off. The the universal joint will come off via the hex key (8mm IRC). This avoids damaging the universal joint with the big screwdriver.

D51 runs a 4 cylinder engine. Not a 6 cylinder. I think the older 51’s did run 6 cylinder engine. But new ones are 4.
@DMtec1016 ай бұрын
The that's good to know, the one we have has the same exact engine as a d61. it will out push the new D61.We have all 3. D51, D61, D71, but our d51 is the tir3.

Brilliant, I drive a case 580 on a farm I work on and I’ve the same problem, if the fuel tank goes below 2/3 full it will fail to start.A mechanic changed the whole fuel line filter and hand primer pump but the problem persists, you’ve just solved the problem. PS why are mechanics so clueless?

What was the reason for the repair? My cat 226 just lost power to the loader, lifting only . I can lift it but it immediately falls down. No oil leaks, I'm thinking a stuck top of piston like you replaced
