I like putting dates on my art so I can track my progress, and know in what mindset I was in that period lmao

The thing about dating work is something my advanced art teacher back in 8th grade taught us and I'll never forget it! its also good for fudging submissions of "recent work only", like if it works and its not something ive posted a bunch, its usually fineeeee

I need to give this a try. All the art I've shared on my community tab are either sketches, or "perfect line" flat color images, so this might be good for me, at least to mix it up

I can see not dating digital art, but as a physical medium artist, I date everything. There's no metadata or stored files on a mixed media piece or drawing. It's not for progression, but also proper cataloguing in a physical space. The pieces I never dated frustrate me because I have no idea where they fit in. But also to each their own. It's not a must or must not, but I do strongly recommend it.

In Courage The Cowardly Dog the creator would often have his signature in the background on like a painting or mug throughout the show.

Whats funny is how in the original trailer for this show they said how happy they were that they are making this as a 2d animated show because "its something studios in America have forgotten how to do" And then they outsource animation to DR Movie, a south korean studio, which is something commonly done by studios in America. The irony is insane

What if the date is "encoded" in some other way instead that isnt immediately obvious to someone just looking at the art? My idea would be to use a binary numbering systen and draw lines and dots that i then can convert back to a useful year (or month too maybe). Would take more effort than just stamping the signature on, but at most two minutes of time to add a unique way might be useful

Ha ha That’s not rough. Those lines were masterful strokes. Rough is short chicken scratches. That’s not chicken scratchy. The lines also were long flowing strokes. That’s some pretty clean work.

To me the date or lack of one doesn't really effect the art. Except for concept artists like me, where the date is MANDATORY. Sometimes to the exact day and month. I also sometimes include other info that mean little to anyone else, like concept name/code and version. It makes it easier for me to track designs and changes to those designs throughout the years. But being someone who predominantly only does art of original designs, and who admittedly doesn't put out very impressive work, the value of a single illustration is very low to begin with so I'm not worried about "devaluing" it.

i hate when people add the dates to their art, especially when its a base. i had to spend 20 minutes removing the date from a f2u base (i didnt remove the creators tag because im not a monster) just so that i could properly see where to color it in.

I like dates cause i can see when the artist drew it especially when they changed their artsyle so much, which from my experience its usually for the worse lmao, so i know when to look

Wait, people pay less for old digital art? Why? Isn't that pretty much directly opposite how art is valued in the physical realm? Sorry, just genuinely shocked an curious. Excellent video, thank you!
@CrownePrince2 күн бұрын
People want to buy "newer" products because they consider them better. Anybody who works sales here probably knows what I'm talking about. The typical customer isn't a collector who wants a famous artists' earlier works even if they are not as skilled as the more recent art. You might be thinking of famous artists - in which case their art isn't worth a lot because of the date, but because of whatever legend surrounds a particular work. Just because a Van Gough art is older than Starry Night doesn't mean collectors would pay more for it. There are also millions of "old" 1950s artworks that end up in the trash because they are outdated to today's tastes, or because it's been long enough nobody remembers the human who originally made them.
