That’s whole Smach Z campaign was a crazy Russian scam from the beginning. StopDrop&Retro basically did a whole series on it, but it was basically a reboot of a previous scam that had them kicked off of Kickstarter for not having a prototype, then lowering their amount so they could keep the money, then a lot of fake updates, then a crazy Reddit AMA where they accidentally revealed it was based off of a tablet, to them showing off a fake prototype. Idk man someone with as much experience as you should know that a manufacturer could simply lie about compatibility. I'm sorry this happened, I'm sure there's plenty of cases where people perfectly changed out their SSD and it worked perfectly but you also should've come accross some bad experiences too. I've loved your channel forever now and I'm not trying to be mean, I just feel this was a mistake that does lean to your side in terms of whose fault it is. For context I've only built one pc but I've been working on vehicles for a while. So while I don’t have a huge amount of experience, I feel it's pretty common to spend more time researching and preparing than doing the actual job. Not saying you didn’t, I just get the notion you rushed into this project without setting your expectations

my gpd win2 outlasted the steam deck by years, with its original SSD and upgrading my win3 also outlasted the steam deck. pretty BS swapping an SSD kills it. like planned obsolescence there. even my sony vaio ux-50 micro pc outlasted the steam deck upon upgrading it to1tb. pretty sad LOL they should have put a big red idiot sticker on the back that says "WAIT!" buy only this type of SSD (2230) etc and shown voltage\watts MAX limit draw and had a webpage link for more info

contact valve to get it replaced. they have excellent customer support from my recollection. they're unlikely to charge any considerable amount to get it replaced if anything probably the cost of shipping I also consider this valve's fault for picking a chip that cannot either force shut down the deck or refuse to boot if it draws too much amperage. this simply isn't an issue on any computer(not even laptops) but it is on the deck. they also literally give you a guide on hot to take the deck apart and purposefully made it easy to do so.
