I was all about this motor , very proud of it when I got it installed on the champ. Everyone watches as it does its magic , but everyone also watches when it stops functioning as you have to take it apart to manually stow it. Mine had issues after one month of weekend warrior use . They are also pricey to have repaired. If you have throw away money and like to work for repairs than I suggest get one . Otherwise I do not recommend at all , get yourself manual deploy and stow . Also save yourself the time , energy and money trying to mount a garmin transducer on it unless you like humminbird electronics and want to use the built in transducer . All in all I rate this motor a 4 out of 10 and do not recommend for the avid fisherman.

after you drift through the fish/reef do you pull up and repeat that same drift or can you reverse your drift back thru the same path?

No, I'm too busy catching fish to play with the trolling motor from the back

Hey @MinnKotaMotors, I built a cute lil' DIY wireless trolling motor using an old Minn Kota Endura 45 transom mount on my channel. I'm now working on making it perform homemade spot lock (using arduino, GPS and compass modules)! If I can pull that off, do you want an i-pilot to go head to head with it? 😉

I have an Ulterra the non quest and love it ! I have 5 good friends that got the Quest Ulterra everyone has had it in the shop. I’ll get mine after a year or so of working the bugs out. Everyone of them said the techs don’t even know how to fix them yet. They’ll be awesome once the glitches are fixed. 👍👍

The only thing I don’t like is they haven’t changed the heavy foot control cable. They should have done something like the ghost.

Stowing question: I like to pull my motor up just a little with the pull cable at times. I do this regularly when loading the boat up to leave the lake when I’m not using the big motor to load on to the trailer. When you pull it up a little can you still steer it and over ride the auto stow when it automatically turns the steering into stow mode? That way I can still steer a bit while lifting it up to avoid the motor hitting the trailer but still being able to move the boat forward and direct it on to the trailer.

Best way to follow contour in cruise control is by networking your Minn Kota to your Humminbird G4N

I've tried experimenting with mine and still don't fully understand it. It controls the drift speed perfectly, but I have trouble making fine tuning adjustments to my drift angle. We need a detailed tutorial with and WITHOUT the app.

Took me a couple of years to use this feature. Doh. Luv it on rivers or in wind where trying to reset spot lock results in boat drifting away in the second between pressing buttons. Works great to keep your casting angle intact when fishing smaller spots like current seams.

How do you power it? Could i use it if i was out on my jon boat? Or does it need to plug into a car outlet or somthing?

I have a question that I cannot find anywhere on KZfaq when I connect to lithium ion batteries and parallel versus wiring them in series. What happens to the water hours?
@bobbymaifert80476 күн бұрын
it does not matter if the batteries are SLA, AGM, GEL, Lithium ion, series connection equals more voltage, parallel connection equals more AMP hours, and series parallel connection equals more voltage and amperage. Example of Series connection for two 12volt 100 amp hour batteries would make then 24volt 100amp hour, Parallel connection would make them 12volt 200amp hour, and Parallel Series connection would make them 24volt 200amp hour. Hope that helps

Could i use this feature to slow down the drift in a bigger river?
@falsedragon3319 күн бұрын
I use it in the Columbia. Runs 4 or 5mph where I am at. I use it combination with the kicker motor for salmon fishing. I also use it for Steelhead fishing when I want to drift the bank at river speed or slightly slower. It takes a bit of adjustment, but is pretty handy. I could do it all with the previous versions, but this makes it a bit easier.

Very bad video. Let's start @0:31-- Learn how to handle a fish without busting its jaw, dude! Never ever supposed to hold them sideways by their jaw! Not ever. 1:03, another bass held sideways. 5:36 another fish held sideways. 5:06, another bass held sideways!! Fish are not supposed to be held sideways (fact check me, it's fact not opinion) 0:31 Trolling motor's going to stir up mud when the prop is nearly touching the bottom... 2 foot or shallower most likely. "That's Raptor time" or whatever was said is irrelevant because they're what 10 footers, advertised for 1' of water? 1:51 "In about 4 1/2' of water". To all viewers: You're not going to swirl up any mud in 4' of water. Total lies by the guy on the boat. 3:20 "Spot Lock keeps me exactly where I'm at" is misleading & far from reality. Reality check: A spot lock will keep you within a few feet AND the boat will spin as needed. Try this next to a boat dock on a breezy to windy day. Spot Lock works best when wind directions are not changing at all. This entire video was filmed on water that is glass. Spot Lock's benefits are pretty much lost when the water is glass, like this entire video was filmed on. Spot Lock will let a boat swing sideways adjusting for the wind or current, far from keeping any boat "exactly where I'm at" as spoken in the vid; he is misleading. 4:50 I absolutely agree with matching the motor & shallow water anchors to your personal style. I could not agree more. 5:13 He comments about the Ultrex or Ultrex Quest being quiet. They are not. My Ultrex was heard by my kids swimming 75' away from the boat. They heard Spot Lock turning the motor on & off under water. I own a pair of 10' Talons, had an Ultrex (Spot Lock was horrid) & now have an Ultrex Quest (Ultrex's Spot Lock issues seem to be fixed). The Ultrex Quest is way quieter than the Ultrex was, Talons do great at holding the boat still. Talons & Spot Lock compliment each other, they don't really compete against each other. Mud & Talons aren't worth much together. I love Spot Lock, love the Talons as well. I own what this video poorly tries to explain This video is terrible.
