How do you overcome misaphonia? The brain perceives certain sounds as dangerous and triggers an emotional response. Should I approach it exactly the same as pain TMS symptoms?
@painoutsidethebox
@painoutsidethebox Күн бұрын
Yes more or less. Re-interpreting the sounds as safe by letting go of your resistance to them. If you avoid exposure you're likely creating more 'danger signals' so you should gradually expose yourself to these sounds, all while also working on any underlying emotional issues (stress, depression, etc always make these symptoms worse)

My question is, how do you know you just haven't fully healed from an injury or if it's now chronic. I still feel my head/neck needs to heal, but I could now just have chronic pain. It's been nearly 4 months. I've had some tests, and the doctors/ pt's think it should go, but it's taking ages. I have a huge amount of anxiety about it for various reasons, including doctors have missed a serious diagnosis. Perhaps this could be the reason for not getting better ??
@painoutsidethebox
@painoutsidethebox 29 күн бұрын
I think your anxiety around it is the reason why it's not getting better. Almost 4 months is a long time, and from what I understand your tests showed nothing serious. One of the ways you'll know it's not an injury is also if the pain varies a bit sometimes (e.g. less pain on some days, or it tends to move around, even if it's in the same area. Injuries typically hurt at the exact site of injury, TMS pain radiates and acts more weirdly).

Miriam, is spondylolisthesis considered a structural problem? I hear you say the if it’s not a structural problem it’s probably TMS. I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and degenerative disc disease. I have pain and numbness in my feet but not all the time. I’m now confused as what to do. The doctor wants to do surgery, but I’m not feeling very good about that.

How does this work for people with alexithymia? or perhaps, can this still work for people with alexithymia?
@painoutsidethebox
@painoutsidethebox Ай бұрын
Write what comes to mind and trust the process. Alexithmyia is likely a trauma response, and should also be worked on with a trauma therapist.

Thanks for your videos. I'm getting better. and i am very thankful for them. I had a question that came to mind What does it mean if i can do the activites that cause me pain when i take a low dose of xanax? I do meditation, breathing, safety messages but nothing ever gets close to the relief of a low dose benzo. I can play my instrument and focus only on that, even if i try to worry about pain it doesn't come. Im so confused, and its a low dose. If i play high level piano pieces without the low dose of xanax, i get my right hand symptoms, tension, ache, burn..

Hey love the video. And i like how you explain this. Im still struggling with this. I am tryign to tune in with my feelings from chest, throat and stomach but Its like i feel nothing. I guess the only thing i feel is frustration that i can't feel anything else. I don;t know what i am supposed to feel. I even try to remember some childhood trauma but, they are empty, they bring no emotion, its just a memory. Sometimes when i am trying to tune in with the sensations in my chest and throat, i feel this pressure, like it wants to make me burst out laughing, something trying to come out. but thats it. nothing more. I dont know what this is and i dont know what im doing right or wrong :(((((((( Could i have any advice?

This doesn’t make sense. You can have arthritis or disc bulge or herniated ,but the pain isn’t caused by that; and that isn’t TMS pain either. Well then where is the pain coming from? Am I going crazy or what?
@painoutsidethebox
@painoutsidethebox 2 ай бұрын
I think you misunderstood. A herniated disc is just that - a herniated disc. Pain BLAMED on a herniated disc is very likely to be TMS.
@Jojorocks23

Many people have herniated disc and have no pain. Many people have gallstones… and yet have no pain. Think about that. Open your mind and receive, stop resisting. Let it go.

Please everyone… do your own research on what actual neuroplasticity is. Her oversimplification is misguided & unknowingly misinforming people of what it actually is. There is measurable changes to your brain itself, for people in chronic pain. It’s not as easy as just changing your emotions & how you respond to your symptoms. Much more to it. Don’t take my word for it or anyone’s for that matter. Make it a priority to dive deep & educate yourself about what neuroplasticity is, whenever & wherever you can. So you can actually make lasting sustainable progress. Just do 15 minutes a day if all you got time for. Miriam, if don’t mind. Can I recommend a few videos to you - with incredible doctor explaining it, in both very technical terms but in an easy to understand way? If your really interested in helping people & willing to listen - can’t recommend her enough. This once functional medicine doctor & psychiatrist, has been studying this for 10 years & was able to put her own fibromyalgia & cfs in remission. So not only does she study, research & have patients recovering but she also understands better then most u- as being once a patient herself… dealing with chronic illness & all that goes with that. Let me know if interested. Happy to pass on. Remember people, it’s not just one thing… it’s a combo many little things added up, that makes the biggest impact. Go slow, be consistent. Wishing ALL of you the best on this crazy ride of working towards rehabilitation. Keep believing it’s possible, you got this 💪🏼

Hey Shoshana, I agree with you, it's a combo of many little things added up that makes the biggest impact when it comes to heaing! However, in this video my aim was actually to simplify Sarno's approach vs the emerging neuroplastic / pain reprocessing therapy approach to chronic pain - because some people were wondering if the two were compatible and which 'one' to go for. For simplicity's sake, I couldn't go into all the details related to the physiological changes taking place (nor am I qualified to describe all the biological processes involved) , but in my courses I do explain that there are measurable changes in the brain itself that cause nervous system dysregulation and symptoms. Individuals don't need to know all the biological / molecular details in order to heal - they just need to embrace different practises that lead to balance and re-regulation. Also keep in mind that this video was created 2 years ago, and since then I'm aware that there has been more research about neuroplasticity. Please feel free to share any links you think might be beneficial in the comments 🙂

Hi I have GAD, I went through trauma (issue with immigration and deportation) every thing worked out but after the issue ended I was left with chronic tension headache, neck and shoulder pain , I cannot function , it’s a cycle 🔁 of pain , insomnia, bloating and a lot of anxiety. I take medication and I see a therapist. I wonder if I purchase your package can it help me ? It’s psychosomatic definitely my mother and therapist told me . I am not a depressive person but feel depressed because of how horrible I feel . Thank you. Plus right now I’m in a bad living condition with a toxic land lord and we have a toxic tenant who hopefully will leave our house on Sunday . Trying to not have these stressors so I can begin to heal.

Yes, definitely! Even more proof because no acute pain would just mysteriously come up always a day later (if injured, you'd feel it with movement in the moment).

How do you change someone’s else’s mind. I know what’s bothering me but my wife refuses to go along with what I want to do. I have been for years trying to convince her to move. Now that I have retired I want more than ever to move , but she will not even consider it. So very frustrating and now I’m experiencing chronic back pain . I’m not happy where I’m at ,but see no solutions 😢

When you can't change others it's more about adapting your own lifestyle as best you can so you fill your cup - so to speak. This is a sensitive issue and you may need couple therapy to come to a resolution, OR it might be enough for you to plan your life in a way that gives you frequent respite from a stressful environment (e.g. frequent trips, camping, etc.).

What if you have had no injury? Does the same apply? Example: Whenever I sit up I have severe sensations of molten lava dripping down from my neck to the soles of my feet. I have been checked for MS and it isn't that, although appears to mimic the symptoms.
@painoutsidethebox
@painoutsidethebox 3 ай бұрын
Yes, if you have had no injury this is an even stronger indication that what's going on is due to neural circuits in the brain. Yours is a conditioned response, it is aggravated through fear and fear-based behaviours. You need to work on your response in order to start sending a different signal to the brain (start with trying to be more indifferent to the sensations, and with moving more naturally).

@@painoutsidethebox Bless you. Thank you so much. This is very encouraging. My pain is literally full body now... spread from neck, all over chest and back, down legs,... only but that is spared is my hands... had multiple tests, been hospitalized and they can't find anything wrong. Nerve conduction normal, not vasculitis, not autoimmune, not fibro, not muscle disease of any kind... feels like full body nerve pain flowing like molten lava and has left me moreorless bedridden.... so moving right now is basically just up and down for toiletry purposes... so it will be a process, but this at least gives me some hope... again thank you. I appreciate your answer very much.

Great video this particular discussion is right on what I'm doing every morning or 20 knee bends to slowly remove the association of discomfort every time I try to tie my shoe or do anything like tha I'm trying to train myself out of this horrible Pavlov dog scenario If you need further proof about this 10 years ago I challenged myself to restart running and when the pain went away something very good happened the opposite of this regardless of how much noise and chronic tightness I get when I start running I don't feel any of it this is consistent over 10 years even though I still have TMS
@painoutsidethebox
@painoutsidethebox 3 ай бұрын
Very good! Make sure you're not being too intense about the knee bends (when we put ourselves into a state of fighting our body, that could create more tension). Do it playfully instead, and with curiosity, and watch for other behaviours that may be based on fear (e.g. the way you move about, etc.)

❤you’re so right! Talking about it just manifests it further! It feels good to complain, but honestly..I’m sick of hearing myself! Doesn’t do a damn bit of good in the long run!
