The Volvo 5cyl had also an interesting history and lots of evolutions. At the end they where also in the Ford Focus performance models. Excellent video.

Motorcycles engines have low internal weight, low internal friction from small piston rings to small main bearings to a lightweight flywheel/clutch, It is much easier to spin low mass internals. HP per liter is cakewalk with small motorcycle engines.

This engine is essentially a four stroke, but with an asymmetric motion so that the two lower-effort strokes are performed via cam instead of via crank. The intake stroke is only low effort at wide open throttle, however. On a gasoline engine, closing down the throttle would make it necessary to have a spring that's stiff enough to draw vacuum (negating some of the other advantages) or else using delayed intake closure as a means of controlling power.

This video has many technical errors. "Repairman22" - you might want to research the following technical details: 1. Loop scavenge two-stroke vs. externally scavenged two-stroke (hint: what you described in this video is a loop-scavenged two-stroke, with only a brief image of an externally scavenged two-stroke at the end of the video, but no description of the differences) 2. Rolling element bearings vs. fluid film bearings (hint: typical modern four-stroke engines use fluid film bearings - making the statement @5:30 nonsensical) 3. Piston port vs. reed valve vs. rotary valve induction (hint: performance figures from racing engines show no significant performance advantage for any of these, making your statement @3:00 inaccurate) 4. Rolling element bearing lubrication requirements (hint: rolling element bearings require very little lubrication - making your statement @9:50 nonsensical) 5. Incomplete description of the reason for the shape of high-performance two-stroke exhaust pipes 6. No mention of lack engine braking (aka pumping losses, aka "compression braking") 7. No mention of transfer-port injection (or crankcase injection) when discussing direct fuel injection
It's a pile of poo! Horrible balance, horrible oil distribution, rubbish power output and loud.

It is interesting but another concern I would have is that the centrifugal force generated by a spinning cylinder may tend to cause liquid fuel to cling to the cylinder wall. Not as much of an issue with NG or H2 but it would be better if the same type of force could be used to do the opposite and tend to force liquid fuel away from the cylinder/combustion chamber walls.

Adding a water tank next to a fuel tank is a lot weight increasing. The solid carbon residue in the exaust piston may create an issue.

Why not constantly pressurize the intake? So when both intake and exhaust are open, the pressure in the intake will push all the used air out and feed fresh air in at the same time, minimizing the oil coming in, since the air doesn't need to enter the crank case. The crank case can be also modeled like on the 4 stroke engines for lubrication. I think the downside is, it will be required to use injectors. Is it a dumb idea?

All these change of direction for the gases to flow is stealing lots of energy. They got away with it because of the low compression/low octane fuel. Cooling wasnt really an advantage, old 2-strokes ran cool due to the large amounts of gasoline they consumed, much if it went through un ignited. Modern 2-strokes like chainsaws rely on powerful fan cooling, the fan steals more energy than it saves from lowered consumption.

9 Hp? So, 0 to 60 in forever? So I looked it up on Wikipedia and it says " The original 1948 model that produced 6.7 kW (9 hp) had a 0-40 km/h (0-25 mph) time of 42.4 seconds and a top speed of 64 km/h (40 mph)". One could beat it with a modern riding mower. Or an electric scooter. Or roller blades,

Maybe a good generator design. Can tune to a fixed rpm. Better torque for sudden loads starting. Can overbuild high wear components since weight is less a issue and normally low run hours will help. This won't be in a cheap residential unit but if it keeps good efficiency and size it could be a fit.

I once drove a 2CV and it was a hoot. You are sitting on a garden stool and everything is incredibly basic. The steering was heavy as hell and when I put the foot down the thing made a hell of a racket but in terms of acceleration practically nothing happened. I laughed out loud, so hilarious was the experience. Great car with an incredible suspension.
