Height isn't the determining factor of how you train. Try to get a good balance of velocity and strength work and change the ratios based on your specific jumping goals.
@splash_basketball16 күн бұрын
6:33 IMO I completely disagree with you. You can’t just pick Isiah Riveria as an example. He still does plyos, and some of the best dunkers in the world got there without ever lifting weights. Sure lifting weights is important and part of the equation, but plyometrics are what’s most transferable. It’s good to move across the force velocity curve but you should always be doing max velocity work, aka plyometrics, which can include simply sprints or max effort jumps. And you claim they’re bad for the knees, but it’s the dosage that’s bad. As long as you’re progressive, your body will adapt. I’d therefore argue plyos>weightlifting in terms of injury prevention, as you can increase your tendon tolerance and co-contraction the most effectively. And it’s true basketball itself is a plyometric, so if you hoop a lot that’s probably enough to build extensibility in the tendons, however I feel like you lack quality max effort jumps as well as top end speed exposure, so I doubt it’s enough to really get your bounce up.
@Plasma_is_gay16 күн бұрын
who even are you bro, like nobody cares and he sure as hell ain't reading all this horsesh*t bruh, what ur saying is true but he probably has a lot more bounce than you and knows more than you do, also with his vert what he's doing clearly worked so no need to write a whole ass essay. he even says too that its good to do them just not heaps because jumping and just hooping is a plyo which tbh thats all the plyos you rly need, using other plyos is just beneficial and speeds up the process. No body cares about your lame ass opinion.
@maplejuiiice7 күн бұрын
I never said not to do plyos. Most people just do some half effort high volume plyos and get nowhere, yk.

@@splash_basketball Alright thanks! I have some knee pain sometimes so should I start with lower volume or just hope that my knee pain gets better with pistol squats and good recovery?
@pres_codm16 күн бұрын
@@alancenteno9804you should lower your intensity too if you have knee pain, and slowly increase the volume and intensity from week to week. Try to start with short sprint or jump session every week and increase them over time and dont forget to do isometrics regularly.( Im assuming you have tendinopathy, jumpers knee)
@splash_basketball16 күн бұрын
@@alancenteno9804 I would for sure start lower volume especially if your pain is related to overuse. The key is always to be progressive. I recommend doing a max effort jump session and sprints twice a week with at least 48h rest in between. Also I would do them on days that are already higher intensity (keep your high intensity days high and low intensity days low). But indeed start with lower volume, for example just a single sprint an a few jumps, and if you’re not excessively sore from it and your knee pain doesn’t get worse because of it, you can gradually do more over time. And once you get well conditioned to sprints, I recommend racing someone to truly get max intent. Alternatively, you can record yourself and try to beat your own time, but once you start getting slower than your peak that session, stop sprinting for that day. Max effort jumps are automatically max intent but probably good to compete with someone else as well.

Thanks you had some great info. You should also talk about gaining muscle mass (hypterophy) vs not. Power jumpers can add weight no problem as long as it's mostly in the quads, posterior chain, back or even the mid back. Speed jumpers need to watch their weight because every 5lbs added is going to decrease their vertical by a couple inches, especially if they jump off one leg (bulking up too fast-- like adding 10lbs in 4 months- going to lead to injuries) because that's not enough time for the tendons to catch up to the extra load (usually take 25-40 weeks). Obviously having more muscle mass is going to make us stronger but unless you add type II muscles fibers by pecentage gained, it's generally going to harm our verticals if we add too much weight. Another good approach is to ditch the weights and use medicine balls or wear 5-20lbs weight bands or vests and work out at high velocity (again have to be careful to add weight slowly like 5% per week or 10% per month to let the tendons have enough time to adapt) or sprint up hill or hop up steps at high velocity. This guy has been going viral with his high velocity load training videos: instagram.com/hironori_nakajima/?hl=en. Most of his stuff is more fantastical but gives some ideas on how to build up to some extraordinary high velocity with load

When I talk about speed, I'm not exactly speaking of running speed even though it's a factor I'm actually referring to takeoff speed. Running speed will help with this, but plyometrics will increase your ground contact times the best 👌🏾

@maplejuiiiceАй бұрын
I never said u can't improve velocity it's just harder to. You can only take off a jump so fast, and it's hard in the tendons to train for velocity, but you definitely can improve not as fast as you can increase your squat, in my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong though.
