Hi Julie, your video was really wonderful with crystal clear explanations. Does the nasal plosion also apply across words ? E.g. "A kid in the park". Should we pronounce "kid in" with the nasal plosion as /kidn/ or just as two syllables /kidin/ ? If both are correct, which one is more commonly used ? Thank a lot.

Congratulations from Brazil! For us Brazilians the "Flap T /ɾ/" sounds more like a fast "R" than a "d". Your videos are astonishing. I would like to see an explanation of "reductions" in American English.

A great video about linking sounds with super clear and detailed explanations. How should we link "sit in the chair" ? Should we use flap d /sidin/ or the syllabic n /sitn/ just like we pronounce "button", " curtain", etc ? If both linking sounds work, which one is more common? Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your comment and questions, @user-kz9db8xb4t! I'm glad this video gave you clear and detailed explanations about linking :) You have an excellent question here about how to link the phrase "sit in the chair"...and you're right that either of those options could work. But I think using the flap might be a little more common in this example. I hope this helps! :)

Thank you in advance dear Julie! I’m perplexed to learn, according to the dictionary, that the word “ditz”, which ends in the letter Z is not pronounced as Z at the end. Could you explain why?😍
@AmericanEnglishForHindiUrdu
@AmericanEnglishForHindiUrdu 9 күн бұрын
Hi lwkbilly - Thanks for your comment! My best guess is this: The letter "z" in the word "ditz" is pronounced like /s/ because of the /t/ that comes before it. The T /t/ is voiceless, so the letter "z" is also voiceless, which makes it /s/. This type of "rule" might not be true for every word that has "tz" at the end, but that's my best guess as it why it happens in the word "ditz". I hope this helps! :)

@lwkbilly 9 күн бұрын
@@AmericanEnglishForHindiUrdu Dear Julie- Thank you so much for your prompt reply! Armed with your explanation I looked up “waltz”. Lo and behold, the Z at the end of “waltz” is also pronounced like /s/. So, you’re right. Thank you so much for enlightening me!

I say R both ways. It depends on where the R is in a word and what letters are next to it. It seems like there are a lot of variations on those two basic pronunciations.
