The point of us posting our Shotkam videos: We've learnt so much from watching other people's Shotkams over the years that now I have one, we're going to give back and post up our Shotkam footage as much as we can to help others. I post all the hits AND misses, hiding nothing! I believe you can learn more from the misses, so all are included for your viewing pleasure and laughing at us! We don't say we're good/bad shooters, we shoot for fun only, often with a side by side hammer gun or a 410 pea shooter o/u fixed choke! Rarely conventional! How many we hit is secondary to having a good time shooting. Martyn shooting Revo .410 O/U 28" fixed cylinder chokes short 13" stock.

Interesting week with the .410. First time shooting the new 410 cartridges from Hull. Getting used to this tiny ultra lightweight with a kids short stock is hard enough :O now I have to relearn how to shoot with the new cartridges. The previous Hull High Pheasant fibre wad were pretty awesome things, huge hitting power and fast! from that 410 but with awful patterns, gaps everywhere from this cylinder choked o/u game gun. When Hull discontinued them I tried Gamebore 18g 7s fibre wad but for me, they were utterly awful (for me in this gun). Very very slow, so slow the shotkam perfectly recorded the shot cloud going out for a couple of seconds! I could not hit anything with those. I had to give massive lead and lob them! bye bye to those, hello to these new 7.5 shot 18 gram. So having shot 50 of them, they are not as fast as the previous High Pheasant, they don't appear to hit quite as hard either, maybe about 80% hard hitting. They have a little less recoil than the High Pheasants, now in 7.5 rather than 7 shot. Don't know about the shot pattern yet, will try to work that out later this week. In the absence of anything else in 3" close to 1400 fps then these seem to be the ones i'll have to shoot from now on and just re-learn how I need to shoot these ones. Well I did buy this old 410 to challenge myself, so I guess I achieved what I wanted :O. Short kids stock 13 inch. Fixed cylinder & cylinder choke, 5lbs in weight, infact putting the shotkam on the barrel doubles the overall weight"!! :O VERY fast handling, too fast! you can get too far in front all too easy and doesn't lead to the smoothest video footage either! I love it! Wish it fitted me... oh well, I'll cut my teeth on this one and then move to a CG, Beretta or BR110 sporter IF?? .410 will exist with the upcoming lead ban??

I've owned a shotgun for years but only now, am I looking into actually getting ok at clays haha :) Apologies if this is a silly question, but all these shots seem they are below and infront of the clay. I would have thought it should be above and infront of the clay. As they are still travelling upwards. Is the aim wrong on the shotkam or am I just wrong for thinking it should be above?

Hiya!! :) you know your stuff! this gun has an adjustable rib and stock and I find I 'like' the feel and shot pattern with it set to shoot 70/30, so as you rightly spotted! I am a little low and infront which puts it where it needs to be. My side by sides are all flat shooting 50/50 so I have to shoot them differently. I think with this high rib semi and a monte carlo stock, i can see more, there's less barrel in my vision so I am liking the clear shot sight with 70/30. Seems to work for me :-)

Tried using the Gamebore 410 fibre load for this week. Got to admit after the first shot, I knew they weren't as good as the Hull high Pheasants. Or so I thought..... On first trigger pull there was no recoil at all, and I could tell they were much slower than the Hulls. This lead to me missing behind a lot. I always shoot the same 12g, which, are pretty fast @ 1400fps. The Hull High Pheasants are fast cartridges, so I can shoot both 12g and 410 in a similar style. These Gamebores are a fair bit slower, result, I missed behind a lot on this shoot. I was going to see if I could swap them, but then watching back the Shotkam footage I've noticed that the shot pattern is much better with the Gamebore, than the Hulls. The Hulls pack a good wallop (for a 410) but the pattern has lots of holes in it. These Gamebore produce an excellent pattern, a very uniform good pattern. So..... think I'll stick with them a bit, just need to change my sight picture when using them and give more lead than I normally do. See how it works...

Hi James :-) I am yes! So, I got this as a training tool to help me practice targets that I found myself missing and to shoot gun down. Helping me to shoot gun down its been a MASSSIVE aid. Compared to real life, yesterday at Colerene Clay club 9the video is in my feed) I shot 43/50, its pretty similar on VR too, maybe a few more hits on VR as you can get instant feed back and act on it. If I come across something that I need to improve on, I set that target up in 5 stand and practice until I understand where and why i was missing. The crossers above, that I used to shoot gun down, mount in front, steady the gap shoot... its a HUGE tool, and one thats helping me a lot.

First time shooting this new to me .410 with Shotkam on. Bought a few months ago as a cheap bit of fun to shoot at clays after watching Johnny @ TGS KZfaq channel! :O He is right, lightweight (5lb 6oz), short stock, fixed cylinder choke in both barrels, not much lead in the air! This thing is a REAL challenge to hit clays at range or edge on, BUT... like most people, after the first 50 shots I got addicted to it. The joy of hitting something with so little lead is a huge grin factor. I liked it so much that I stripped the brown sludge coating on the gun's wood that was chipped and just plain nasty and learnt how to do a hand rubbed oil finish. Eight weeks later the woodwork is now not an ugly duckling but actually quite lovely. The stock is too short for me and with fixed cylinder chokes in both barrels, confidence is not high! I thought it would shoot high, hence lots of the shotkam footage shows me very low on the clay, but now I've watched the Shotkam footage back, it's actually flat shooting, so I hope to hit more next time. Still very happy though with this outing, it's a good starting point. Looking forward to next Sunday at Colerne Clay club to shoot her again. The recoil wasn't enough to trigger the Shotkam to record correctly! :O so little recoil! I'll need to try a more sensitive setting on the Shotkam, or use the manual stop start record facility. Sorry for the lively footage! It's got very little weight, and gun down does make it fly around the sky a lot!

My first attempt at a new oil finish. The gun was originally coverage in a brown sludge finish. 8 weeks from sanding back to this finished state. Approx 20-25 ish coats of oil in total, finished with a hard wax.

Enjoy your vids. One question…where are you mounting your SK on your Miroku? I’m assuming it is ported since it’s the same gun as my Citori 725. Last time I mounted my SK, I had it too far back and had a huge bubble (I’m assuming it was the underside of my bottom barrel I was seeing)at the top center of my video. I mounted it a couple of inches behind the ports…which made it about 10” from the front of the barrel.
@martynf65uk
@martynf65uk 3 ай бұрын
Hiya and thank you! My 725 isn't ported so I've got more options. The bubble you see is indeed the bottom barrel in the image. When I used the Shotkam 3 I mounted it the length of my hand down the barrel. With the Shotkam 4 using 1440 HD I mount it an inch less than the length of my hand and that keeps the bubble from happening. So I'd say its about 6 inches back down the barrel. One way you can do it right for sure. Mount the SK and turn it on into the calibrate mode, turn on the SK app on your phone and select calibrate. you now have a live view on your phone, you can move the SK up and down the barrel until it no longer shows the bubble. Just make a mental note of how far that is, like for me, its an inch less than the length of my hand :-) If? you cannot lose the bubble, and you're using the SK gen 4? then change the resolution from 1440 to 1080 and I think you will be able to find a sweet spot with no bubble showing.
@vandavidson3049

@@martynf65uk Thanks…I’ll try that. I know instructions call for the mount to be 2-3” away from the ports. But, that kinda limits your placement. Again - thanks for responding! Appreciate what you’re doing…I’m a new shooter to SC. I may try to start posting vids as well.

Would you say this has helped your scores I real life?
@martynf65uk
@martynf65uk 4 ай бұрын
That's tough to answer. I've been shooting for 6 years so I'm quite used to sporting clays. I've owned this 'sim' for a week! BUT............... I can state 100% the physics are unbelievably close to real life! It's hard to see how it won't improve your real world shooting. Believe me when I say, watching on youtube is NOTHING compared to using the VR headset in real life. First time I used the VR I literally stated WOW!!!!!!! So here's how I am using this sim to improve my shooting weaknesses: I have shot 90% using swing through method. it's how I shoot naturally. There are many instances where its NOT the 'best' method to use. You can practice in real life which costs ££ and time. Using this sim its allowing me to practice different methods at 'no' shell and clay costs. Due to the analysis you get with this sim, i.e where you missed hit etc, also the trace of where your gun moved, plus the repeatability of each shot in real time without distractions, you are able to understand where you’re going wrong and practice to correct. Today... i set up two crossing launchers left to right, one about 25 yards out medium launch speed, then one about 35 yards out, faster launch speed. I shot 25 using swing through, then another 25 using pull away, then another 25 using maintained. Its giving me the ability to repeat the exact same shot, learn, apply changes and review. Briliant tool! I’ve tended to shoot gun up all the time too, I wanted to be able to shoot gun down, mount in front of the target, stabilise the lead picture and shoot. With swing through, its very difficult to get the exact same sight picture, lead, trigger pull timing which leads to the inevitable miss and you’re not really sure why?? By setting up this medium distance, slow moving crosser and mounting in front of it from gun down you can practice your mount and repeat the exact same sight picture and outcome every time. So... has it improved my shooting? its too early to say, Do I think? it will give me the ability to practice and practice and improve? 100% YES! You scan shoot online vs a friend or have a shoot at one place and compete with mates. Its all good! Is it cheap? no. without a proper gun stock its inaccurate and not repeatable. With a gun stock its as close as you can get to real shooting. Mine is the MegaVR Duck Hunter with the extra add on weight packs so I can finely turn the gun to match my gun in real life, that is REALLY worth getting I'd consider it a 100% MUST HAVE. I tend to over lead 1/4 ing shots, so I'm going to set up a quartering away, left to right and right to left and practice practice with out the shell or clay costs. So... use this extremely accurate sim to set up any problem targets you have and practice. Use it to shoot gun down. Oh... and there's a ton of shooting styles and courses to use, plus of course the ability to set up anything you want in the 5 stand shooting option. Yes, I do 100% believe i will be able to use this sim to work on my weaknesses and improve them. HTH!!

@@martynf65uk wow! Thank you for the very detailed response! I was not expecting that mate! I just started in November before winter set in in the midwestern United States. I’ve been able to get out a few times and found your channel because of the shotcam. For the money I think this might be a better purchase because I could “shoot” much more frequently. Not having a VR and needing a stock platform I’d need about 700usd it appears. My only reservation, besides the cash outlay, is being cross dominate I am curious how that works with vr. I’ve never used VR and cross dominate is challenging enough in reality. Hahahaha Thanks again!

@@freedom2ignite You are very welcome! I am really pleased to help you out in any way 🙂. Ok , I understand what you're thinking now and your reservations. So in terms of 'free' shooting time, esp. as its your winter, then this sim is a 100% win win situation. Its SO close to real shooting, it is going to shorten your learning times to hitting some good percentages of clays, no question about that. I suppose you could balance how many clays and cartridges can you buy for $700 US vs how many you can shoot no matter the weather or time of day on a sim like this. Once the $700 clays are shot n real life, you cannot review or go again. On those grounds, esp. as just starting out in shooting, the sim is the way to go. Now for the cross dominance. I am not an expert, i am right handed and right dominant, lucky i guess. I do suffer with left dominance taking over IF the stock is too low, I can suddenly go from perfect sight picture to just seeing down the left side of the barrels only!! I worked out the problem when I bought a gun with a Monte Carlo stock and adjustable top rib. With this gun I was able to raise the comb to get my head above the stock a fair bit and adjust the rib to match my eye height, this solved my eye dominance issue. You have teh very same level of adjustments on the VR stock that you can buy, so you can adjust in any direction, this adjustment might be the way to help you. One BIG plus point of the VR clay shooter is its got a pattern plate program. Three pattern plates set at about 16, 25 and 40 yards from memory, so you could adjust your stock, then shoot the pattern plates, keep on repeating this until your pattern hits the board correctly in the right place. That might be the answer.... Or... join the Facebook Clay Hunt VR group, or the American equivalent and ask if anyone is local ish to you so you could try theirs to see how your dominance effects it or not? HTH :-) Martyn

@@martynf65uk Martyn, again mate, so much value in your reply! I’ve taken some lessons but I’m learning so much from you. I am thankful for your time and the fact I came across your channel. You have given me some rear reasons to chance all this! I didn’t know about the pattern board but like the idea of playing with that and the stock to possibly see what adjustments I need to get my real one to fit better. Thank you again for your time and channel! I am fortunate to have come across it. Might be a bit of a shock to the wallet now but will hopefully be kind in the long run. Sean

@@martynf65ukMartyn Thank you again for your time. I picked up a quest 3 and a used real stock should be in my hands tomorrow. Even without the stock the game is fun, but i see how it can be helpful with the stock.

:-) Thank you very much! that was WILD!!! the hammer she is a stunner, so much fun to shoot. Between the two of us, we've got three of them, two of what you looked at kzfaq.info/sun/PL8xAf92W4FmJNSA8840WJVuotpMJrLlKi and the third is a Pedersoli which I do shoot at the club. kzfaq.info/sun/PL8xAf92W4FmIRoVTJrxukaVgkHpvxas-l The hammers being a modern version, are steel shot proof, 3" chambers, and multi choked using Beretta Mobil choke so you could have internal or external extended chokes! so wrong its right!!! :O

That was some round of clays today, challenging clays for sure, and the wind, that made it oh so much more interesting! Paz and me went out for a second round with my Revo .410 over under and 11 gram 410 cartridges, now THAT was one heck of a challenge trying to hit those clays with a 410.

@@ROBERT6500MK2 oh yes indeed. The frustration of missing is not knowing WHY? i missed. Using the camera means you can replay your shots over and over and figure out why you;re missing. For example... when i first used mine over a year ago, I was missing lots of left to right crossers, didn;t know why? but watching back footage, we worked out my feet were positioned wrong so my shoulder dropped to the right as I ran out of body twist and the gun dropped down, leading to a miss under the clay. They are also very helpful for figuring out where your shot pattern is going, i.e 60/40, 80/20 etc... so you can make any adjustments to the gun to correct fitting issues. I also noticed, and I STILL do it! I often miss in front! I give close targets too much lead. I'm working on that problem ;-)

I think the sound is not matched to the video. The sound of the gun report is way behind the target.

You will increase your score if your hold point is moved a little further out. (your going backwards and then forwards and probably tired by the end of the day!)
