This is so unnecessarily dense - if I'm at the clients site (depending on the industry/company of course) the last thing I should be doing is filming for my youtube video. There's a serious risk of exposing confidential information, and simply put, the client did not fly me out so that they could be a prop in my video. I should not be focusing on capturing office b-roll when I am on-site. This video is a literal work week in my life aka shows what my life was like during a traveling work week. Luckily most viewers can safely assume that this video shows 99% of life outside work (which includes precisely everything you mentioned above). For viewers who leave comments with this same sentiment, you simply cannot be serious lmao

no mention of the long work days and late nights working from the hotel (after dinners and mixers etc)? I just came off 10 years of this life and it's alot more stressful and longer working hours than this video makes it seem. No one is going to pay you to travel across country or out of the country without expecting you to work much longer than a 40 hour work week. At least that was my experience for the last 10 or so years. Average work week was 60-70+ hours. And because we have to work on fridays, you really only get 1 day off. Sundays you're resting and packing for the early monday morning flight. And Saturdays you're running errands to get the stuff you need to pack on sunday. It's not glamorous. And depending on the location and the client rates, you could be staying in a roach or rodent infested hotel. That's the real consulting life...
@planic81282 жыл бұрын
Sure but no one has to do it for 10 years. I would get into consulting to gain the learning curve that everyone is talking about and then do an exit after 6 years. Also if you are not into long hours of working, don't go into this industry. And if you got into it and realised afterwards you don't like working that long, you can still make an exit and go into another company with better work/life balance.
@lisajenkins76922 жыл бұрын
@@planic8128 i think you will find work/life balance is hard to find no matter the industry. And the pay incentives are such that it is hard to get out of once you get into it. But the key is for people to KNOW what to expect and exactly what it is they're getting into. And my comment was the video does not paint a realistic depiction of what the "consulting life" REALLY is. It's long hours. STRESS. Fatigue. And most of the time no work/life balance. My boss had a heart attack on the job. Too much heavy drinking, bar food, eating out. No enough exercising and healthy eating. The "lifestyle" takes it toll and you have to make a conscious effort to eat healthy and exercise, which is hard to do living out of a hotel. THAT's my point. It's not glamorous all the time. It's not glamorous most of the time. And people who are considering it should know that.
@lisajenkins76922 жыл бұрын
@@planic8128 and as far as the experience goes. If you are starting out in your career, consulting is the absolute WORST experience you can get. WHY? because as a consultant, you have to work with the client where they are, how they prefer. So you have no concept of what industry practice is (because you're new) or what best practice is. What you'll likely learn is BAD practice. If the company were all that great operationally, the wouldn't need to bring in consultants. IMO consulting is only a good experience after you've been around the block a bit and have a good understanding of who something SHOULD be done or have some industry expertise to know how a particular industry does it. THEN you have expertise to bring to the table and you can add value. WIthout that, odds are high you'll learn bad habits that will come back to haunt you should you land in a place that knows their stuff and executes well.

Great video! I also like to get travel size products vs transferring (if I can find what I like) This way it’s easy to know what’s inside. When I’ve labeled the ink has faded or the container isn’t as good as promised. I’ve been able to get smaller size products as “gifts with purchase” of full size products. Tatcha & by Terry (& other brands) frequently do this.
