My HD rail video's began in November 2013 and on into 2014 around the Matamata area on the ECMT and Kinleith branch. A few months later with the temporary withdrawal of the DL class owing to the "asbestos debacle" which brought an inrush of all classes available to handle freight in the North Island.
This video replaces the original which I mistakenly loaded in 720p format. I have also fixed errors, cleaned up much sound which was badly edited with earlier software and a general tidy up using newer software. This included clips badly effected by distorted wind noise. Unfortunately I completely lost ALL the early HD masters with the loss of two HDD's within days. This subsequently made me paranoid about back up of later footage.
I have found the best work files I have left and used them. These were on a 2 hour video I made of Volume 1. I have now re-edited this 2 hours and have included most as extended clips making it almost twice as long hoping that as time goes by that interest in this slower paced history from 2013 and 2014 will be appreciated. Perhaps one day when if time permits I may come back to these first few volumes and replace some of the obviously distorted sounds with later digital stereo recordings made since and in my archives.
I did everything when filming except wrap the vidcam in cotton wool to keep the wind out, it was hopeless as these entry level camera bodies are full of holes that funnel the wind through and into the microphones. Having had external mike inputs on earlier 8mm units it was disappointing but eventually led to using a separate digital sound recorder at Vol.6.
I hope you enjoy this rebuild along with larger more readable sub titles also. This volume is made from 177,000 pictures to be played at 25/sec.
