In the early 1980's Gordon, Trevor and Jeff Gamonsway began making analogue video and sound recordings of trains of the New Zealand Railways over much of the network in both North and South Islands.
Over four decades later these are such a great historic record of the areas captured with sounds that I have not edited heavily as in almost every frame there so much that has changed and gone.
I would like to thank those NZR workers who gave help and advise in those early days of this video hobby to the Garmonsway family and myself.
This second video was filmed in June 1986 on the NIMT from Mataroa in the south, through the afternoon and finishing with night shots at Bennydale to the north. This work was also shot on still cameras by other enthusiasts including the late Kevin Bain who had alerted Gordon as to the running of a shiny recently released Dc helped from behind with the noisy olde Db 1180 roaring it's participation in some the best Db sounds I have heard recorded. Even though those early 80's vidcams were easily over driven into sound distortion I have included it all as it is one of the disappeared classes and never to be repeated.
