Disc 12 begins mid winter 2022. As always these shots are left over or secondary videos made but not used in the UHD series but perhaps some may be familiar as they were partly used in coming/going edits, or just good shots that are good enough as stand alones.
First shots are of GVR 1254 with the Gorge Explorer doing some mid winter runs in the Manawatu. Marton, Milson Junction, Bunnythorpe dip all in very arduous weather conditions. Patikipapa Rd north of Marton is always interesting and then back to Halcombe in big buffeting winds to try a different location both way. Some efforts to capture freights and the Northern Explorer but particularly EF powered freights after some of the recently mothballed electrics were re-instated and test run for work again.
Near Roberts Line just north of Milson of afternoon traffic again in increasing strong winds causing considerable camera shake at times. As I arrived back at Patikipapa Rd for the second visit it light rain began and slowly increased until several trains later I had to quit. This was around the time that the first EF refurbishment of 30163 was completed and it was returned to Palmerston North from Hutt Workshops for finishing and testing.
I was lucky to catch several test runs and also its first run at the head of a revenue freight north out of Palmerston North in a morning visit to Milson Junction for a few freights.
Two visits to the Bunnythorpe dip for a long 391T in damp cold weather and the second showing a new aspect of the dip with the prolific spring growth of trees and grasses.
For the first time in several years a visit to Palmerston North station to record the set up and departure of the Capital Connection at this longest day period of the year.
Finishing off with the HD version of a track camera with 30163 on the head of 234 appearing from "the olde way" out on to the NIMT and travelling over the camera headed for the north.
