Dragonsteel, which you’re holding now, is a good book-but, like a lot of my work during that era (1990's), is erratic at the same time. The various parts of it never quite clicked together. Despite my subversions, it played into a little too many of the fantasy tropes of the ’80s and early ’90s for my taste. It just didn’t quite land.
This book exists in a strange half-canon state. A lot of the lore is still relevant-indeed, though during the writing of Elantris the Cosmere was unformed, by Dragonsteel I had a lot of the ideas in mind that would eventually get used in Mistborn and become full canon. You could call this the first real Cosmere work.
However, I’m still proud of this book. Rough though the writing is, nascent though the ideas may be, the ambition is there-and the seeds of what I would become as an author, sprouting alongside the seeds of what would become the modern Cosmere.Once I hoped this would be the book that made me famous. Today it is but a curiosity. Fortunately, it is an interesting one. I hope you enjoy your first trip to the planet Yolen.

OHHH FOR REAL? I just found the Dragonsteel uploads here. Love them! I've had so much trouble reading books, I hardly managed on every two years. Then I realized that I study much better when I listen instead of read. And surprise! That is also the case with books VS audiobooks! And... I haven't been the same since. Thank you (the whole team) so much for making the books accessible as audiobooks.

Chapter 22 Oh no, I was so exciting for everything up through here. Not excited for the bridge run sequence again... I was so looking forward to the academic competition rather than military arc. I'm curious to see how Frost helps out though.

Can anyone confirm if this is the cannon magic system on Yolen? I heard the characters werent cannon but almost everything else was

I’d say you can assume everything is subject to change but it will probably look something like this. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see microkinesis before dragonsteel proper so here’s hoping we get answers soon.

Microkinesis is definitely cannon as it’s mentioned in the RoW Ars Arcanum specifically in reference to Yolen but I imagine it probably would work a little differently
