04 Subaru Impreza Sloppy Shifter Fix!

If you have a sloppy shifter in pretty much any model subaru, give this a try, most likely your shifter linkage bushings are deteriorated, a couple bucks and 30 mins and I was back to having a nice tight shifter again!

Am just about to tackle the same job. What did you use to remove and reinstall the roll/spring pins?

a punch small enough to knock out the roll pins, I had to put the punch in an extension to reach the roll pin, and the other side of the shift linkage is a bolt, that one is a bit easier

Another question. How did you take off just that one part of the center consol

You pop off the cover that has the ebrake lever on it, there's 2 screws under the armrest lid, and the front is just clips, then the shifter section is just clips holding it in

I have a 2010 rs Impreza and the shifter isn’t that loose but it kinda is am I fine or?

It's probably just starting to wear out, your probably fine for awhile, basically just use your best judgement on when it becomes sloppy enough where it starts to get hard to find gears that it's maybe time to change the shifter linkage

did you do this all from the top or bottom??

Both, you need to unbolt from the top to get the shifter off the tunnel, and down below to drive the roll pins/bolts out to change the bushing
