Ah, it's that time of year again. Colleges have let classes out for the summer, graduation ceremonies have been held, and the dorms are once again empty and ready for alarm testing! This college campus has an EST network with a FireWorks computer set up at the campus police station to monitor all the building systems. Although not seen, the panel in this building is an EST3. As you can see (and hear), this particular dorm has Wheelock NS horn/strobes, RSS remote strobes, and smokes with sounders in the dorm rooms. The majority of the sounders have the Integrity-style sounder, but some that have been added/replaced more recently have the Genesis-style sounder. The sounder/smokes are not in sync with the horn/strobes, but all the horn/strobes are synced together and all the sounder/smokes are synced together. A few of the rooms (including one seen in the video) have had strobes retrofitted in for ADA reasons (not in sync with the signals in the halls). During testing, we left the doors open so that during the bell test, we can close them as we check each room's sounder/smoke. I checked the rooms on floors 2 and 3, and my colleague checked the 1st and Ground floor levels. Enjoy the long vid!

I wasn’t expecting the Integrity horn sound to come from most of those EST bases. I’m used to those basses having the Genesis horn tone like the one at about a quarter of the way into the test.

Think of it as a low frequency sound the base uses a speaker

Notifier actually has a sounder base that sounds just like the L Series horn strobes. Pretty cool stuff

I think System Sensor makes them themselves and can be used on any Honeywell division panel. They have a low frequency one too.

@@ticearpey3235 Oh duh, I meant System Sensor, not Notifier LOL. My mistake, we use them together at our company. But yes they do, one of our hotel projects at our company is using the LF sounder bases with the Notifier 951's . I have a few of each here at my house as well.

The EST integrity horn is a lower frequency which means It can wake people up

Very interesting...an _EST_ system with _Wheelock_ signals. The sounder bases are definitely interesting too, especially since most of them are the rarer ones with the Integrity sound. Nice to see that the NSes & RSSes are all synchronized together. 1:10 Seriously? Do two NSes _really_ need to be _that_ close together? 9:46 Again, is that _really_ necessary? Yet _another_ building with wall-mounted detectors! Does New York just have a thing for those or what?

I've seen 'em mounted on both the wall and the ceiling. In fact, the dorm that we tested the following day had them on the ceiling in the rooms.

its not uncommon to see wheelock on est sstems Ive seen an e70, mt, and a wheelock forgot the model number speaker strobe on an est voice system

@@captainchris2016 It's still strange if you ask me given Edwards/EST should have their own alarms to use with their systems & thus they shouldn't have to use ones from other manufacturers like Wheelock.

What happened to the integrity at the start? It seemed to have trouble starting up, sounding more staccato than usual

The "Integrity" sound is actually the sounder/smokes in the rooms. They just started up a bit late because they aren't run directly off the NACs like the NSs are.

They're your standard networked telephone, can be used to call rooms in the dorm or extensions of other university departments.

So the sounder bases are supposed to be low frequency?

Installation pre-dates the requirement, however we are implementing that requirement in new installations.

Why are you shutting all the doors

They're supposed to be shut. When we tested the detectors, we opened the door and left them open so when we did the sound test, we could just peek in, verify they were sounding, and close the door. Plus, should something happen in one of the rooms (even though they're not occupied), the closed doors limit the fire spread.

@@weatherdan882002 when I was in middle school they did a post fire drill announcement and they did address if any classroom doors were still open after evacuation in each area and how many. They even wanted stairway door closed for fire drills as well. And my high school had fire doors that would close when the fire alarms go off.
