Its worth noting that the Husqvarna 372XP you have is an X-Torq, check out the black tag. It should say 372 X-Torq, the decompression button on top of the head is a giveaway. Husqvarna made a 372XP and 372XP X-Torq, while sharing a bunch of parts, are two completely different cases, cylinders, and pistons with different porting. They share the bore and stroke. The Holzfforma 372 is based off a non X-torq, the decomp button is on the side of the cylinder. The Holz seems very rich also. Great video!

I built a Chinese 372 from a parts kit. Upgraded the cylinder and piston to 52mm instead of the 50mm (extra $15) to achieve about 78 cc. Have cut TONS of red oak lumber with it and about 20 cord of firewood over a 5 year period. I did eventually have a failure. Scored piston. Cracked intake boot caused it to start running lean. Rebuilt top end and replaced the boot. Replaced carb though it was probably okay. Pulls a 42” bar through sugar maple on a saw mill quite well. I don’t use it to make a living but I’ve been surprised that it’s held up as long as it has. Best $300 I have ever spent. Just couldn’t justify the cost of a real Husky though I love them. Thanks for the video. I would also lean it out a bit. Would keep the clutch engaged tighter and wouldn’t dog down like it was. IMHO.

Like a lot of people are saying the chinese saw's high jet was really rich, which prevented it from reaching full rpm, and thus cut slower. Retune it to 12.5k-13k rpm using a digital induction tachometer and I'd imagine they would be a lot more comparable.

The OEM 372xp model you have is an xtorq edition, which is a strato saw like the newer 562xp and 572xp. The older 372xp OE or original edition is a traditional quad transfer port closed piston saw, which is what Holzfforma copied. Two totally different engine designs to compare, although the plastics look the same.

I've had my 372 x torque for 5 years now. Never let me down, and I worked it hard. It came with a 28 " bar , full skip square grind. A perfect match. Even use a 36" bar, full skip square grind on it and it doesn't slow her down. I've used Opti2 oil in both my huskys also. That oil is worth every penny. I do feel the x tourqe is much better than her older sister.

The Farmertec cylinder is a chrome bore cylinder just like every saw built was… they absolutely need 32:1 and they will greatly appreciate a semisynthetic oil like that RedMax which is your Husqvarna semisynthetic oil… or a dirtbike semisynthetic…. You’ll get 20 years out of that cylinder with the Caber rings and good oil at 32:1… the Xtorq 372 is a strato charged or modern engine,,, problem there is you’re dumping your fresh air charge in to the front side of the piston and it’s mixing in Combustion chamber which is just a super lean condition in your cylinder and that’s where they burn up on 50:1 in a couple years… we cut a little pocket into the cylinder intake face and make sure all that air is mixing with our fuel mixture charge in the intake and not getting any where near the piston without the oil molecules in it!!! All the strato designs benefit from your doing that on their intake face!!! MS261cm will absolutely be awesome with that little assistance!!!! 40:1 is the minimum amount of oil and a working saw needs more! We run 36:1… 7 Oz into 2.5 gallons of 90 octane and it’ll burn completely off and leave no carbon deposits on your exhaust port window… the 372 Xtorq is not the best saw in the world because they have been running that bigger and heavy piston on the same crank and counter weight so it’s just not going to work as long because it’s eventually going to be beating on your PTO side bearings with a longer bar..,, plastic race’s on that bearing don’t help matters much… buddy of mine says that he would highly recommend that all bearings be a plastic race so when they go you’ll have a better chance of them getting spit through the engine then binding and wiping a topend so I’m still mixed about that as I have always been fond of the metal race and I use SKF for my saw’s for my bearing supply in town?

well the original husky is the XT version, the FT version is the XP version. that's why the comp release is different. and the FT one was really fat on the high just for break in, next time run a tank or 2 trough it, open up the high jet till it reaches 13k rpm and it will smoke that original XT, at least mine does.

So the real husky came from a dealership where they typically assemble the saws, service them, start them, & tune them. The holz saw came out of a box from china. The Chinese saws are certainly not for everyone, but if you know what your doing & can tune a saw & properly service it. You will be just fine. 👍🏻 I have several real huskies (& Stihls) as well as several clone saws just for fun. I’m more apt to modify the clones,(big bore, popup piston, porting, etc) like a practice saw lol. But they work and I’m getting crazy power out of them after the mods. And they’ve been holding up well… so far 🤞🏻. Stay safe out there everyone, & keep the good content coming. Sore legs after climbing with (2) 372xp’s??? Wow, don’t think I’d want to climb with both.

Im no expert but having tuned a few carbs on different saws, and those both being almost the same saw..... the holzfforma clearly needed a little screw twisting. there were no rpms at all... she was choking. I would expect em to run the same, just not for the same hours before needing parts. Cylinder and piston are not as high quality, and the other thing is probably just double check every nut and bolt on the Holzfforma to be sure its torqued.

Oh I also read a comment from a guy on this vid that builds them from kits and he said they need a bit taken off the cylinder base to bump compression... that would definitely make a difference in lower performance ( probably in an attempt to keep it more reliable... may be a good trade but if not. get it machined down a bit. Yeah man…you really can’t get a very good idea of what’s up when you’re right out the box like that… you need a dozen tanks to get broken in and tuned properly and really starting to jam out! If you are really watching and listening to engine rpm’s…you can actually see them both beginning to gain rpm’s and power as they chuck down these two sticks… think he was running 32:1 no synthetic two stroke oil in the fuel mixture?!? I will say this about the Farmertec saw’s… if you have some good saw Machacic knowledge and ability… have been building saw’s for a little while… you can build yourself a decent tool that you can actually use to make money for 1/2 of the new oem prices! I’ve been running mine 4 years commercial and some other saw’s with Farmertec engine repower’s for over 12 years without a hiccup!!! When you’re self employed sometimes shit happens and your 372 or 395 is down or stolen and you have work that you need to get done..,a g660 or a g395 is going to get your jobs done and keep food on your family’s table!!! Really look at what John did to the g200T.,, that saw runs good enough to keep the business going!!! I just don’t agree with what everyone else does in their building.,, that saw could actually be a little less powerful…it’s more power than is necessary.,, and it would get a whole lot better fuel mileage.., sure it’s got lots more power but it’s burning up and not fully utilizing like twice the amount of fuel.., so that’s more sending it up and down to refill the tanks and getting less work done in that waisted time of messing around with adding more fuel all day.,, porting is about achieving a balance within the engine that allows it to function more efficiently and fluidly…. Just my thinking… and there’s definitely several different ways to port a saw and there’s different reasons to do that port and polish job! Stay safe in the trees boy’s!!!

@Schwalbe_262 I’ve had the 372’s and 660’s for 5 years now… I have a real 371,372’s 390,395… my point was these are awesome very inexpensive backup saw’s… I’ve built 5 660’s with meteor topend kits on them and they all have been doing residential tree removal work for 5 years without a hiccup they run better than factory because they are all lightly ported with timing number correction and polished exhaust ports… when the $400 dollar saw’s stronger than your $1200 dollar saw’s… you might want to pay attention… they can be a great deal… the 5800 Jonny cutter’s are 58cc ground saw’s… they are awesome for a rookie… who’s going to beat on a saw… he’s killing a $150 dollar saw… not the $800 dollar ms261cm or 362cm…
@DaveyBlue32
@DaveyBlue32 Жыл бұрын
@Schwalbe_262 and those 288’s can definitely be built into a decent long bar saw… I just really like the 300 series models… 371 single ring 50mm bore is the perfect 28” bar saw… Because the husky has that turbo air filtration which slingshots out the fines and helps keep your air filter cleaner for a little longer… that’s why I run the Husqvarna saw’s… less cleaning of my air filter system… if It’s a single tree takedown then the MS460 will really be screaming… take me… because it’s got that power… my 372’s are the 52mm popup piston version so they can run with the 460’s! A lot of west coast faller’s grabbed the Stihl saw’s because of their 13,500 to 14k top rpm’s… faster chain speed so a little faster in the cut but a husky is smoother… hand file so I’ll run skipper tooth even though it’s not as fast as full comp…. Husky 371 is the perfect feeling sea!!!

An it runs just as good as my brand new one if not better . It’s a lot heavier in weight but dam good saw . I used to be all about still till my dad brought home a Husqvarna an I feel in love with it

The cheesy dogs are for bucking. Allows you to use two more inches of your bar. China saws don't have any environmental limitations on the carbs and don't come tuned. When they are broken in you can tune them to absolutely scream. I have the G372xp and G372 with 8T sprockets and 28 inch bars. They are both faster than stock huskies.

Best way to do the Holtzforma is as a kit. A quality top end and bearings and seals with a oem carb. It will then cut and run as good as a Husky. It will still cost half the price. Worst part of the Holtzforma is the plastic.

I've got the Holzfforma 372xp. Needed a bigger saw for a larger job but couldn't justify or afford a 'real' one, nor the experience I have now to get a second hand saw. First few cuts it almost ripped itself out of my hands. After about ten tanks of fuel, I did need to make some adjustments to the carb. Ended up being 1/8 turn in on the high jet. It's held up after 3 years though.

I've built a few of these Chinese 372xp clones now, and one thing they all need before you even start is the cylinder machining to bring squish down to an acceptable figure. From the factory the cylinders are usually a mile out and compression is considerably lower than is desirable. But after being machined and some very mild porting these saws really do come alive.
@AndreasBrOlesen
@AndreasBrOlesen Жыл бұрын
To bring down the squish, do you machine the bottom of the cylinder (near the crankcase)? Since there is no cylinder head. Just curious :-)
@Altair885
@Altair885 Жыл бұрын
@@AndreasBrOlesen Normally yes, but if you have to take a lot of material away you also need to check opening and closing times for the ports, as lowering the entire cylinder affects timing.
@AndreasBrOlesen

@@Altair885 That makes sense. Seems like a lot of work. Definitely not a DIY job. :-) I guess it is worth the effort, the price difference taken in consideration.
@Altair885
@Altair885 Жыл бұрын
@@AndreasBrOlesen You would need access to a lathe to make this kind of modification. It's actually a very simple operation once you've made a mandrel to hold the cylinder straight, after that it only takes moments to do each cylinder once you've done your measurements and worked out the amount to take off.

The gray market saw 372 is a gen1 version, or so called dirty emissions. The OEM is a gen 2 or x torque with so called cleaner emissions. The gen1 is a slightly lower rpm saw with more lower end power, versus the gen2. The OEM stopped makeing the gen1s in about 2010. . I run a gray 372 with the oversized 52mm jug and no base gasket, has amazing compression. Runs a 8 tooth sprocket with 28" bar. For a 32" bar i go to a 7 tooth.

I have that china 372 for backyard cleaning, with 28'' bar. After 3-or 4 trees I had to put the walbro carb on it instead of "stock" - it was not really usable to adjust it every start, and then after it warm up - tune it back again. After carb and spark (just in case) change it became stable and predictable - I did not adjust it since carb swap. I can not say how close it to the original husky - do not have one. But as homeowner I can say it is sufficient to fell down and chunk up to 26 in diameter oaks. Just for the stats: For the last 3 months I cut about 5 thick oaks, 2 or 3 similar size maples, and 3 or 4 pines in total, plus quite a lot smaller size trees. 6 gallons of gas total burned, I run it on 40 to 1 mix. Main issue I had - starter cord broke 2 times, Plus starting it takes 6-10 pulls.
