I moved to Flanders a little more than a year ago (from Eastern Europe), and while mensen in Vlaanderen might not be *that* direct compared to you guys, they still are more direct compared to what I'm used to. *WHAT A BLESSING.* Interview didn't go well? I'm being told. A colleague thinks I have a bone to pick? He tells me. Dress doesn't look that nice considering my body type? Even the shopkeeper tells me! I might love it this much because generally people are also very kind (no day goes by when I don't get a smile from a stranger, and it's much nicer and less creepy than it sounds), but nevertheless. Amazing.
@B.A.B.G.4 күн бұрын
Happens to me too, I was chatting on social media with a girl in Canada. I was explaining something and finished conversationally saying "it's not rocket science". That was a bad idea, she called me rude and when I tried to defend myself it just went downhill, she thought I was being dishonest and considering we go to the same church it was just getting more and more awkward. I wound up apologizing for something I didn't do.

Yes, that is correct. Germans are rude and that is just a part of their culture. But many Germans and others like to think they are being honest. I am an Asian born who lives in Germany and I know the difference between honesty and being rude. This video is spreading the wrong message about "honesty". I have dealt with Germans since my youngers days and I am 56 years old now. Each culture has its own traits, some positive and some negative. In the German culture being cold and rude go hand in hand. I am an Asian, who learned German at a very young age purely out of interest in the German culture. After I moved to Germany I realized how cold and rude they are. This is my honest opinion after having lived and worked among Germans.

People always try to coddle me because I’m “nice” and they don’t want to hurt my feelings. It’s a bit annoying at times and doesn’t help me improve. One day though, I had cleaned the flat top and moved on to another area. My manager calls me over and I see that streaks showed up later. When he asked who cleaned it, I decided to tell him it was another worker thst had already left and, coincidentally, he hated. After a minute of him screaming and raging at the sloppy job, I thanked him and informed him with a smile that I had in fact been the one that cleaned it. Poor guy went pail as a sheet! For some reason, people always mark me down as the “nice guy”. Why this is confusing for me is because I am very quite and have been told that I have a “leave me alone look”. Despite this, I somehow gain the admiration and trust of people after one conversation.
