My inexpensive way to mount a ferro rod on your plastic, polymer or kydex knife sheath.

This is genius and exactly what I was looking for. I have a full size and a mini camp hatchet and I wanted to add a ferro rod to both. I looked and the cheapest kydex one was $15 and up including shipping. So I went to Amazon to just buy a sheet of kydex and make one, that started at $10 and up. I'm glad I came to KZfaq cause I'm just going to go to the hardware store tomorrow and grab a handful of these and some heat shrink to make the handle. I'm going to use rivets to mount to the sheaths since I have some sitting in the garage already. Thanks for making this video.

Much better than my way. Thanks. I just got myself an SRK. Sheath needs a ferro rod holder.

Fantastic idea! I have a 1/2:" FIresteel I want to add to my ESEE Junglas and you just solved it for me. Just a thought for those having to use the white nylon versions, I'd bet that they'd dye black pretty easily with some black RIT Dye and boiling water. I've seen other nylon handle scales dyed this way. While certainly not necessary, just because we enjoy roughing it in the woods, doesn't mean we're immune to fine aesthetics. Thank you again!

I went to Home Depot last weekend and purchased 3/8" nylon cable organizers in black along with some stainless screws and nuts and they worked like a charm on my Junglas sheath. I may opt to buy some black screws online so they complete the tactical look or, I may use a black Sharpie to color them (an easy and cheap but non durable solution). Anyway, thanks again for the excellent idea!

I'm ordering an ESEE 6 and I've spent the last two hours trying to find a ferrorod loop for my 1/2" rod🤦♂️ This totally ends my search! Thank you times 2! 🙌🙌 One because I know how to overcome my obstacle, and two because I have a legitimate reason to go to the hardware store (my wife's gonna love that) 😂😂

This is an outstanding idea! You can purchase the nylon loops or nylon cable clamps in black. One can spray paint them black. I wish all the Mora, Hultafors, Condors, and others came with this type of Ferro Rod Holder. I know the Extremus comes with a built-in Ferro Rod Holder on the side.

A really good idea 👍 I use those loops for holding cables all the time and never thought to do that 😜 TFS

This would work on leather too if you punched a couple holes in it. Also you could use leather and some Chicago screws to make one for the Kydex sheath.

I swear to God I just had the same idea but I was going to use the ones with the rubber attached to metal and I didn’t have the right size at home so I’m going to Home Depot to get the ones you have and I think they have them in black. 👊🏼

Which ferro rods do you use and how do you like them?
@ModernRefugee8 ай бұрын
The ones I use are those Bayite ones off Amazon. I have probably 10 of them. They have all worked well after the coating is scratched off.

Hey M.R. Had to stop back and ask your opinion of that Buck Mesa.
@ModernRefugee3 жыл бұрын
I like it. It was reasonably priced and has been good for me. It was a knife Buck made for Walmart. The other name was Endeavor. It’s hollow ground, so I don’t baton it, but it’s great for field dressing and skinning and I can get it pretty sharp.
@quayron2138 Жыл бұрын
did you make the rods yourself too? if yes, how?

No, it was got off the internet.
