Today we finish our 1 ton axle swap series and do a full vehicle walk around! This Land Rover Discovery 2 is the ultimate overland build!
If you are new to the channel we wanted to toss a set of 37" tires on this overland project but unfortunately it's not that simple. The factory axles won't hold up to the abuse this overweight overlander will take on the trail. For that reason we stuffed a set of 1 ton ford axles under this beast! Unfortunately, the custom front axle had the wrong offset so we worked with fusion 4x4 on building us a custom Dana 60 replacement.
Add some custom bumpers, air bags, roof rack/sliders and you have a one of a kind overland rig!

As a landrover owner my mind was blown when you stated you were blessed by coils YET somehow added the air bags eeeeekkk. I mean they are tucked inside the coils which wont ever crap out on you. My 2004 disco is in need of some love so im using this & other videos to get the fires roaring. Love the roof rack & tire rack 👌 enjoy & always remember whenever dealing with Landover, they choose Lucas the prince of darkness soooooo yeah know the deal lol ....

Nice to see it out of the shop! Looks great. I'm hoping you also upgraded your thermostat when you replaced the hoses. Thermostats in the D2 are not typical (the right one can make a huge difference). Also, hoping you have a temp gauge or an Ultraguage to monitor temps. The "temp gauge" on the dash is really a dummy light. If you keep these engines cool, they stay happy.

airbags was a smart idea for being able to adjust for a shelf road, especially, when you are leaning. Well done and great build Nate! :) Aschroft transmissions in the UK supply diffrent gearing to your high range in the LT230 transfer case without touching the low range. These transfer cases were used from early Range Rovers in the 80's to the late 2015 Defenders with big variation in tire sizes giving many OEM gear ratios available for high range. Love your channel - keep up the good work - Greatings from Norway! :)

I actually watched the roof-rack build, and I came back recently and watched it again. that was a great build. I am more interested in the rack you built for your one ton truck, though; because I want to build one for my truck, so I can put a rooftop tent on the back, and I liked the way you made it to lift in the front, so you can have your toolbox upfront and still access it. I really liked that. I just need to go and buy some square tubing like what you used on that build! Great content, Nate! If there is a playlist in the first video of this series, I overlooked it or maybe you just haven't added it there, but it would be a great idea to put it there if you haven't. I really had a hard time finding all the videos in this series and there is a lot of knowledge in this series to learn from since you shared the failures and success! Awesome job, Nate! I noticed that some people don't like to share the failures. I think that is one of the things I like about your channel. I've mentioned him before, but Karl Fisher's channel, "Make It Kustom" shares the good and the bad and does metal fabrication. I'm wanting to do some panels for my truck door, so I wish I had a bead roller and English Wheel; because Karl gets into shaping metal and repairing metal and all that. I actually need a good sandbag as well and a vinyl hammer to do what I want to do or attempt to do lol watching Brad on Trailrecon led me to watching your how to videos, and watching your videos really interested me more in fabrication, and Make It Kustom started showing up on suggested videos, and I started watching some of his stuff, and that just has so many things to do with shaping metal, fixing metal and all that. I don't know if I would tackle some of the things you have done but it is inspiring and educating, but there are some things that I feel like I could do, and one of them is a rack for my truck and the other is the wiring you done for a second battery using and isolator. That was a great video! I want to add lights to my truck and a second battery, so I can put a frig in the back when I want to go camp, and I can camp a few days and run that frig on a second battery without having to worry about it draining my main battery. Lots of inspiration for so many practical things. I'm even thinking of how I can use some thin gauge metal to enclose my rack, and use the idea you used to remove the window on the back of your Land Rover and make a hatch door in it's place. I could maybe make a wider one that locks and make access to some bens for tools and gear! Great videos, Nate. I'm glad you make the videos!

I think it would be very interesting to see the sway bar retro fit. part of the reason I like your channel is that I learn different ideas of things I can do for my truck and the wifes jeep (when I get time), I think it would good information on the problems you have to overcome by putting a sway bar on that wasn't designed for it.

It is always a good idea to change the oil after using a strong fuel system cleaner.... overdosing. High concentrations of PO-PEA (vs BO-PEA) can contribute to the formation of sludge and varnish precursors that have the potential to cause significant engine harm.

Hey bro! Just finished the video:) great job! I’m 6’4” and have an 04 discovery 2. I figured out how to extend the seat back further safely so you can be much more comfortable. If that’s something you might want, it’s a fun project and would help the Land Rover guys haha! God bless
