About Surviving Mars:
Colonize Mars and discover her secrets, with minimal casualties.
Welcome Home! The time has come to stake your claim on the Red Planet and build the first functioning human colonies on Mars! All you need are supplies, oxygen, decades of training, experience with sandstorms, and a can-do attitude to discover the purpose of those weird black cubes that appeared out of nowhere. With a bit of sprucing up, this place is going to be awesome!
Surviving Mars is a sci-fi city builder all about colonizing Mars and surviving the process. Choose a space agency for resources and financial support before determining a location for your colony. Build domes and infrastructure, research new possibilities and utilize drones to unlock more elaborate ways to shape and expand your settlement. Cultivate your own food, mine minerals or just relax by the bar after a hard day’s work. Most important of all, though, is keeping your colonists alive. Not an easy task on a strange new planet.
There will be challenges to overcome. Execute your strategy and improve your colony’s chances of survival while unlocking the mysteries of this alien world. Are you ready? Mars is waiting for you.
Main Features:
Building on a planet not fit for human life challenges you to build a smart, functional colony. Bad planning isn’t about traffic jams, it’s about survival of your colonists. You really don’t want rolling blackouts in a city constructed in a place without oxygen.
Each colonist is a unique individual with problems and strengths that influence the needs and behavior of the other colonists. Things can get really interesting if your chief scientists develops alcoholism after one too many long nights in the lab.
Retro-futuristic super structures housing colonists, factories and commercial buildings with their own “neighborhood personality.” Create colonies that value science over everything else, while tired workers drink their pay away at a local bar, or attempt a utopia among the stars.
Inspired by the classic sci-fi of Asimov and Clarke, Surviving Mars holds many secrets. During each playthrough players may encounter one of Mars’ individually crafted mysteries. Uncovering these secrets might bring your colony great fortune, or terrible ruin. What is that sphere that manifested itself outside colony HUB B, and is it friendly?
Combine static and random research through experimentation, which allows for a different experience for each journey through the game. Attain new scientific breakthroughs by exploring the uncharted terrain of Mars's surface.

#51 - Stirling Generators cost Polymer to build, and polymer is also needed for their maintenance. But did you know that, if you never actually open them in order to double their power output, they will never accumulate dust and thus NEVER deteriorate, thus also never costing any materials to maintain? This makes them a total game changer once you have enough polymers to build them.

Something I found useful, metals and water extractors work as long the deposit is somewhere within the blue hex the game draws around the building when you're placing the blueprint, even if there's something else built ontop of the actual deposit marker. You can therefor build a dome overlapping the deposit if you need the space as long as its close enough to the edge for an extractor outside to reach it with it's aoe.

Often at the start, pausing the game and just planning out what you want to do, what your going to build, the layout and completing the research allows me to just prepare for everything.

Pause should be the first thing you do.. sort out research.. launch scanning probes then unpause long enough for your rocket to land.. pause and plan out base placing everything. Only after I’ve done this do I let the game run :)

interesting tips. but I think bringing more than 3 or 4 orbital probes in the beginning is a waste of money. also, since the unveiled tile is randomly chosen, you won't always have the resources you'd like in that area. I've found it useful to hover over each tile with the mouse pointer to check what the game says about "high probability of finding resource x", then, if you've found a spot that has several of those close together, use the orbital probes to look at them. you can get a tech relatively early in the physics tree that allows orbital probes to deep scan and to buy them at half price. also a tip I was missing: don't build too much stuff in the beginning and try to avoid spreading out your colony into areas you haven't deep scanned yet. otherwise you might find that you have built a dome or other large piece of infrastructure on top of an anomaly or deep underground resource area that you then can no longer get to without demolishing your stuff first.

Th. K. Probes are a waste unless youre playing on easy, no humans on rockets, just keep it in orbit and scan to your heart's content (for free). Only takes time

Unless you play USA. Those probes scan 5 sectors each. Also at the start you can use all your probes to search for things then just click restart map if you want to scan more.. you can learn a map this way (stuff stays in same spots) but of course will only have the sectors that you scanned last visible to you.

Great tips. I just found out the tunnel today and it was an absolute game-changer for the currrent session I'm in. I found a deposit at the top of a canyon containing 100k water and that deposit was also surrounded by other deposits of water. Lucky for me, the tunnel I wanted to create was just in range. Loving this game.

Putting water, oxygen, and power (battery) storage near the domes is a good idea too ;) In fact , its better to put them enmasse near the domes that have machine parts and poly factories so they can be maintaned first

Do not let fuel be stored on universal depos, use a dedicated storage for fuel only and put it away from the other storages. When struck by a meteor, stored fuel explodes. When there is fuel everywhere, a single meteor can cause a mess. (I know that from experience)

I men when you arrive at Mars you get to choose the Landing sector on the Red Planet and there you see Points of interest you can land on those sectors or they are only available for exploring missions?

I use some of my drone hubs as small outposts with only minimal infrastructure and only 1 universal depot and no other storage built up around them so it is easier overall for my various rovers to get to areas they normally won’t be able to access and have a place to store some resources. Of course I would make sure to have shuttle hubs researched and built before I build these remote drone hubs

I have a fairly stable colony going, with several domes, and I’m not sure what else to do. All of my sectors are scanned, and my research is going steady, but it feels like right now I’m just sitting here tapping deposits. What else can I do?

Make a tips video! You seem to have mastered the game bro! The Balancing of domes and resources is the main goal and challenge of the game once you have that down it's all about expansion and building. Maybe try building outposts with an interesting geometric shape and such. Makes the planning a little trickier and makes the map more interesting to look at. Just a thought.

Do the mystery.. and now you can terraform the planet. Launch covert missions against other colonies (or trade). Build a wonder.. spend time making your base “pretty”. .. bring in tourists.. change the landscape with Dover’s etc. those are some ideas.

I learn my lesson the 2nd I failed I make sure that I have enough food,power,water,and oxygen while emergency. So I don't kill my entire colony the 3rd time. Just a simple advice to anyone starting it's more fun learning yourself then watching a video and don't forget to test your dome if it can whitstand any emergency like malfunctioning building or parts and dust stroms worst care scenario your entire colony die and you either restart from last save or restart new map.

Some of us are adults and can’t spend hours or days even with trial and error. Besides when battlefield 2042 comes out at the end of 2021… that will be my new crack pipe. Can’t play this game forever and bills still need to be paid 😂

biggest tip I learned was build a dome full of apartments just for the criminals to live and die in. Maybe some security station so they police themselves. Also prepare heaters as soon you can so you're not screwed over by the cold.

just right click to open build menu, then go to Infrastructure and then on the right side there is the tool you can delete stuff. :)

It will only produce what you need unless you have a storage tank etc..so while a water extractor can produce at base.. 4 water, if you only need 1 water that is all it will produce unless you provide storage tanks to fill up. Once tanks are full it will go back to producing only what you need.

Why waste funds on probes? Your first rocket has no humans yes? Might take a while bit its much better to keep your first rocket in orbit while scanning sectors for free.

You are just wasting precious Sols (days) on scanning sectors for free while you should be in the making of your base. Remember that after 100 sols your colony is evaluated and you dont wanna waste no time.
