The wife and keep meaning to rewatch this as we just didn't get the level of joy from it that so others did. We even refer to it as Shitter Island. It plays out nicely as a thriller of sorts but it just seemed baffling to be referred to as a twist at the end. It seemed telegraphed from the start.

I want to add "A Beautiful Mind" - the moment when it all switches back to reality, and the main character isn't an agent working for the secret service decrypting enemy messages at all, he's just suffering schizophrenia. His "code-breaking" is deriving meaning where there is none from random things and his "secret drop box" is just the letter-box of some abandoned house.

You guys should check out Leaves of Grass, Norton plays twin brothers who are polar opposites in most ways. There are two other things that made Howie the Perfect Sacrifice in the Wicker Man. Yes, he had the "Power of The King" (as a High Rank Police Officer), but he was also a Fool (he was easily fooled by ALL Summerisle Residents) and he was a Virgin. The chapter that reveals that on the DVD release was called "The Sacrificial Virgin". As for Keyser Söze, the twist is given away if you know Turkish. Söze translates as "Talkative", and what is another name for Talkative? Verbal.

So much that I watched multiple “fan theories” and the 3rd watch was even better. You know you’ve got a phenomenal film when you know the “twist” and it’s still open to a lot of interpretation. Having read Primal Fear before seeing the movie, I couldn’t believe any actor could play the part believably. When I saw the movie, I was convinced they would change the ending because Edward Norton played the part so well. That’s why the movie will always be one of my favorites.

They won’t mention that because people assume the scene, thus the movie is transphobic. The character isn’t transgender because they never felt like they were actually a woman, they played the part to get what they wanted. Also the fact that he was a nut job disqualified him from being transgender, as explained in Silence of the Lambs, which the movie parodies. Side note, Buffalo Bill was also not transgender.

I still think the wicker man had one of the best twists for its time I remember watching it in the early days of Chanel 4 and finding it shocking. Even today it would stand up as a good twist but what makes it is the build up. You watch and sometimes your brain doesn’t register what your seeing. At least there’s no bleeping bees in it I get anaphylaxis from them. Jules as always you are the true legend we are merely your flock.😅😅😅

Technically it wasn't suicide as she wasn't trying to die but trying to snap him out of his amnesia after the doctors said there wasn't any actual brain damage and it was all just in his head... Yes, seeing and hearing Howie singing The Lord Is My Shepherd blending with the more raucous "Sumer-is-a-Cumin-in" (sic - it's deliberately written as that by the film team - it's based on Old English) is as creepy as HECK. The final shot of the head of the Man falling forward to reveal a beautiful sunset was chilling to boot too.

I can say good list, but then you missed the original that created this script style. There was a John Wayne movie called The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, directed by John Ford and co starring James Stewart. A man who had his entire reputation and political career built off being the man who shot down a town bully outlaw named Liberty Valance, played admirably be Lee Marvin. It was during Kansas at the time trying to get statehood and Ransom Stoddard(James Stewart) being one if its first and founding politicians. As he tells the story of an old friend, the movie plays in flashback to the past mode, you find out his whole image is not what it seemed to be. Tom Doniphan, an anti hero, becomes a hero in a movie more sad than anything. It is one of the greatest scripts ever put to paper, and one of the original gotcha endings. Brilliant movie, completely wrong genre to try a twist, but it worked. Everything worked in that movie. If you look into it, that movie will be your new number 1 on that list.

I love movies where the twist is so insane you couldn't see it coming. These days it feels like trailers will sell that twist for the chance at making money so you'll already know what's going to happen before you even go to the theater. I remember the Matrix mystery before it's release where it was just "You cannot understand the matrix until you see it for yourself" and the website kept the secret. Fight Club is one of my favorite movies as a story but I don't like that people want to make it into a creed.

Yes, a MC didn’t deliberately try to fool you except in the same way he’s fooling everybody, but the twist is completely unexpected - like at least the first time you watch it, seems to come out of left field.
