I love The Prestige. There's the scene where the wife says that sometimes he loves her and sometimes he doesn't, and you don't realize the significance of that until you know the twist. It also shows the extremes they were willing to go to for an illusion. Not letting the people they love in on it, is unbelievable.

You've never even seen The Prestige. I literally asked you last night if you had ever seen it and you said "No" and then I told you all about it. The Mist was filmed in my hometown, myself and a lot of my friends were extras in the supermarket scenes which were shot on a soundstage here ( with the exception of one day outside at a real supermarket north of here ). Fun fact: No one, save for Frank Darabont and Stephen King and a few others knew about the new ending, everyone's scripts were missing the last ten pages. The last thing the extras as a group shot was when Thomas Jane and the others leave the supermarket in the jeep. And then only a handful of extras were brought back to film the ending later, so most of us didn't know the ending until a week or two later when some of our friends began whispering about it. Now we knew before the rest of the world knew of course, but it was still not common knowledge on the set that it was going to have that dark ending. We also got to have our own private screening here in town a few weeks before the movie opened. It was a very fun time and memorable experience and everyone had a blast filming the movie. I don't think I would have ended up getting my Sag card later and pursuing acting full time had I not done it.

Yeah but then...why aren't all the soldiers dead? Or do soldiers go to heaven no matter what? That's still the question I give Christians and they NEVER give me a straightforward answer on that. I think that the scientists legit did break into another dimension and it nearly took over that little town. The military quarantined the whole town (possibly the whole county) and kept the mist from spreading and then eradicated all the beasts. They're probably gonna do the same thing with Stranger Things. But that's just a theory

In The Prestige, people keep wondering whether it was the original Angier who drowned and the copy was transported or the original was transported and the remnant destroyed. But if you watch the first scene where he creates a duplicate of himself, the one who stays kills the one who is transported, so the original Angier is dead either way. Also, the video doesn’t mention that originally Angier found himself a double to do the trick but got tired of listening to applause from under the stage while the double got all the accolades. Borden in the end told him a simple solution: alternate who disappears and who appears. Share the glory. Angier was too preoccupied with the glory to share (possibly because of his aristocratic upbringing)

Pretty sure M. Night Shyamalan didn't invent the "dead all along" trope, but he did bring it back in spectacular fashion. Doing the "clues" (red in scenes) was brilliant for the time, ensuring people would want to re-watch just to see them. My husband doesn't claim to have understood the movie, but when the guy was shot, thought "there's no way he survived that", and was just, "what the heck is he doing still running around - he's dead" for the rest of it. I vaguely remember an old black and white movie on a boat where everyone was dead, but most didn't know it, there are several old radio plays where that's the theme, and I'm sure if I were more classically educated, I could name dozens if not hundreds of ancient texts/plays that did the same thing. Your writer and I disagree on the "Weapon" in Arrival. Although the Alien language, and its accompanying affect on the perception of the linear flow of time, is crucial to the climax of the film, it is not a weapon - it is a tool, as suggested by Amy Adams' character. The Heptapods arrive at a volatile time in Human history as we are on the precipice of armageddon. They will need something from the Human race in 3000 years time - if we do not survive until then, neither will the Heptapods, so they intervene in the only way they can, by changing Human perception. I believe the "Weapon" may be the Human Race itself. Either we develop a technology that is vital to the Heptapods... or we become their allies (or footsoldiers) in some conflict in the future. The two species become inextricably linked.

What suprises me the most about Prestige is that its actually not about tricks themselves or tragedies of characters, but its about how hard it was for artists to pay bills in early years of 20` century and the dark side of showbusiness. Those guys where ready to do anything. Even die.

Ehh, typical needless sacrifice in movies to get a reaction. Explain to me why you would shoot everyone before you actually had to shoot everyone. I mean if a monster starts looking in the windows of the truck, sure, shoot everyone and allow the loud noises to spook the monster into killing you after you empty the gun.
@Shiirya2 жыл бұрын
@@Power5 I mean there is a bit of truth here but in the context of the movie you clearly passed under i guess, the movie is suppose to be hella tense, all the shit in the supermarket and people dying horribly, the survivors getting crazy, the movie is not here to talk about aliens, its the exact opposit, its here to talk about human, their fear and their stupidity when they are confronted to their fear. At least that what i would say i get about the movie. The title itself, the mist, its something that doesnt have a form, and hide everything, its kinda like a shadow or the dark, anything can hide in it and most of the time what you cant see actualy reveals whats hidden deep within yourself. And oh boy IRL people can never reach the bottom of stupidity so yeah the movie is pretty accurate about human nature. Its well written overall

@@Shiirya never saw it. Will some day though. The short clip here though seems to be typical needless sacrifice. IRL people do not want to die before they have to.

Hope I'm not repeating a comment here, but when I saw _12 Monkeys_ in the theater during its first or second week, I suddenly figured out the twist less than a minute before it happened. (If you've seen it, it's when Bruce Willis's character has a conversation on the payphone in the airport.) It felt like a big piece of the puzzle that was the movie, one that I didn't even realize was there, turned in my brain and dropped suddenly into place. I normally don't talk in the theater, but I exclaimed "Oh!" loudly. It helped that at that time I hadn't seen Chris Marker's _La Jeteé_ since Terry Gilliam is basically just doing an overblown (although still effective) version of that film.
