For me, the all-time, definitive, company-sponsored, career-killing screwjob was Asuka before Mania 35. 3 weeks before Mania 35, she was SD Women's champ and she had no program/feud. Charlotte was moved to SD on week 3, challenged for the championship on week 2 and won it. This was done so Char could be added to Beck/Rousy ME as a champ thus royally screwing Asuka. She did make it to the big show though. she was on the pre-show Womens battle royal. And she lost. Thrown out by permanent jobber Sarah Logan. 3 weeks ago, the world champion, now can't win a shitty BR. Talk about a company created death spiral.

I'd go back a year further, to WM 34, when after being undefeated within the company for 2 and a half years, she challenged Charlotte for the Smackdown title and lost, and then afterward tearfully said to her "I guess you were ready for Asuka" (this match coming during the time she would repeatedly say no one was ready for her). Hated it, absolutely HATED IT. Talk about a burial.....she shoulda won the title as it was with all the build up she had going in, but then to have her act like THAT post-match? It was awful. No excuse for it IMO.

The fans knew Swaggle was there just for a laugh, and he was always used in funny segments so he was always accepted. And the GM story was horrible, so I think WWE tried to put Swaggle in there to try to mitigate the damage, but the storyline was the most hated in such a long time, poor Swaggle never came back from that. I’ve noticed a tendency to retcon that anonymous GM reveal into a bigger deal than it actually was. One thing I think that gets lost Re: the angle is that it was actually dropped when Punk did the pipebomb promo. After being openly mocked on TV as stupid prior to that, which, along with the unwatchable product at the time kinda shows where the wind was blowing on that angle. They only did the Hornswoggle reveal on some random special like a year or so later for a cheap laugh long after people stopped caring about it. The angle itself should be criticized for what it was, but it was hardly the Higher Power, and certainly wasn’t a big enough deal to ruin anyone’s career.

Pretty much anyone brought up from NXT in the last two years of the Black & Gold. Lee, Kross, Black, Toni Storm...hell, I STILL hate that they changed Viper's name. And let's not forget how dirty they did Wyatt and Balor's alteregos...

Lance once stated that the BORING thing had an end where SCSA needed him in the survivor series as a good fighter- it was all going to be tough love. Plans changed- HBK. Career implosion

5:03 - I feel WC tried this already when handing NXT U&D to Gareth Morgan until it was no longer worthwhile, both on financials and the fact it just started to *suck* with '2.0' and hasn't stopped since, even adding LVL UP as the AEW Dark to their Rampage 🤬

People think Vince McMahon is nuts today for what he's done to NxT and any booking that isn't the main event (and he is) but tend to forget he's literally ALWAYS had insane shit ideas at like a 75% ratio to the 25% good or great ones.
