I remember the Scream trailer didn't even show the ghostface mask, imagine going into that not even knowing what the killer looked like. I wish they would still do stuff like that.

I think the best trailer ever was Hereditary. You think that someone is the protagonist and theeeeen... all I can say is that I was SHOCKED.

I totally thought "Insidious" would be on this list! The whole "It's not the house that's haunted... It's your son." was a cheap-shot for the trailer, among other things.

While yes the trailer for Pet Sematary ruined a big moment, it was still a generic forgettable film. Besides, we have seen evil little girls done too death. So 10 seconds of shock doesn't save it. So the original which was labeled as cheesy or funny is still the best one. I'll even take the sequel over the remake.

Trailer aside, I really enjoyed It Comes At Night but at the end asked my co-watcher "but. . .did something come at night?" So we looked online and learned that the title of the film was just a working title that never got changed, and literally does not relate to the content. I think it did a major disservice to the film, which was a solid thriller, but the title seemed to hint at something supernatural that wasn't there.

I remember reading an article saying studies showed that revealing more in a trailer made the average movie goer respond more. So i think trailers now just go to the most average viewers i stead of the specific fanbase

Pet Semetary (2019) was completely ruined by the trailer! I was sooooo mad. I will no longer watch trailers because of that. Unless someone I trust tells me otherwise.

I would definitely rewatch Don’t Breathe! It’s one of my fave horror movies. I never saw the trailer, I went in blind so that might’ve been why I enjoyed it so much. But I’d revisit!

The best idea for a trailer would be something like a prologue. Set the tone of the movie while simultaneously introducing the characters but show nothing of the actual movie itself in it.

ellie becoming the one thats killed first in the remake of pet sematary is one of the main reasons why i watched it tbh. a 9/10 year old killing people makes more sense than a 3/4 year old killing people. i just think that replacing the scene showing that she gets hit by the semi with the ending scene that shows gage in the car while he watches his undead family approaching the car.

The Invisible Man was so much better than I expected. I watched it expecting it to be horrible but I was watching for shits and giggles and actually enjoyed it enough that I’ve watched it multiple times!

Same thing as Quarantine- the trailer that was airing on TV for Paranormal Activity showed the final scene. I waited the whole movie for that scene and then was disappointed that it straight up ended on it as the big “wow” moment and the movie was over.

I went into velvet buzzsaw blind and I really enjoyed it.

tbh i think that the fact you can tell what the twist is gonna be in shutter island is a good example of storytelling and movie making. if you’re completely surprised by a twist then it wasn’t plausible and that is a failure of the writer and director, like the twist in sixth sense makes sense after the shock

Pet Sematary had the potential to really surprise us with a few subversions, but instead cheaped out and ruined both in the trailers. First, it should have been a surprise when Gage wasn't the one killed. Second, at the end, when Judd walks by his bed, people who hae seen the original would think "oh man, this is where he gets his tendon slit", and then he doesn't. But of course, the trailer shows that it gets cut on the stairs, so the fake out wasn't a surprise.

Quarantine was such a trash movie compared to Rec though. Rec is one of the only movies that genuinely scares me and creeps me out every time I watch and it's sooo well done I definitely recommend it to everyone instead of automatically watching the American one. Right now it's 100% free to watch with English subtitles on Crackle too! Gotta rep my fave lol

I've been trying to avoiding trailers for horror movies for a couple years now. Usually, it helps but not always. Last year, I walked out of many theaters trying to avoid the trailer for Ready or Not. That trailer is so spoilerific but I kind of wish I watched it because it does sell the tone. I was expecting a more straightforward horror film and felt like it was more of a dark comedy so I was disappointed. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Luckily I saw the movie first, but literally as I was walking out of High Tension, the trailer was playing and completely gave away the twist.

Dead Silence was one for me, they show everything scary in the trailer. I was excited for the movie after I watched the trailer, so went straight out the next day to buy it. Afterwards I felt robbed

The trailer for The Ring definitely spoiled the film, as it showed Samara climbing out of the well, which doesn't happen until after the fakeout ending. Thus, when they'd supposedly fixed the situation, I knew things weren't over. On the flip side, the trailer for Hereditary did a great job of giving you the tone of the film without revealing anything.

You should make an opposite video of this: trailers that benefitted the movie. I think Hereditary and Parasite are perfect examples.

The conjuring trailer where they were playing hide and seek while clapping their hands killed me omg it was so scary and gave me goosebumps and then the movie was so insanely generic and boring. I was so disappointed. Also I love m.night movies but I could see being disappointed by every trailer after the sixth sense lol

Ok, call me crazy but the one time I’ve loved the misleading trailer thing was Dusk Till Dawn. The fact that everyone I know went into it thinking it was a crime thriller then got delightfully shocked by the fun trashy vampire story they got was something that’s always talked about as a really fond memory.

pet sematary (2019) is the movie that made me stop watching trailers. i’ve never seen the original and i haven’t read the book so seeing the trailer left me really disappointed and i just didn’t feel like watching it anymore. but from what i’ve seen i didn’t miss much lol i feel like everyone disliked that movie

I’m guess I’m lucky in one sense; my memory sucks so bad that if I watch a trailer and get spoiled, I have forgotten about it by the time I see the movie. But I do try to avoid trailers that I know are spoilers just in case.

It's not a horror but rather a sci-fi thriller, but Sphere (1998) based on the Michael Crichton book had basically its first hour of twists shown in the trailer.

I don't think Quarantine really spoils the ending because the audience doesn't know that the poster image is the last thing you see in the movie.

It Comes At Night definitely had a disingenuous trailer. I found it to be better than the trailer though. A24 loves for DREAD to take center stage in their horrors and this one definitely had it. Not the best... but definitely underrated and mistakenly marketed. Also a great revisit during a pandemic!

Pet Sematary was horrendous. I was excited to see that they were going into more detail and backstory and was hoping for a better less cheesy adaptation of the book. Ended up being absolutely terrible. It’s a massive shame because the book is a great, disturbing read.

The worst trailer I've ever seen was for last house on the left's remake. It goes through the plot beat for beat almost all the way down to the twist ending getting shown at the end. it even tells everything that happens in the movie in the order it happened in when you watched the movie

I completely disagree with all the people saying the trailer for "The Invisible Man" ruined the movie, to be honest. I feel like "The Invisible Man" kinda parodied this whole "trailer showing too much" problem. I remember seeing the trailer for this movie a dozen times and always thought "well, great. Now i know the whole movie" and i was so surprised when the movie itself was actually completely different and that the trailer didn't even spoil that much. Sure, it shows a lot of scenes and makes it feel like this is going to be the whole movie, when it was actually just little bits and pieces. The most important or shocking scenes weren't in the trailer. I don't know if they did this intentionally, but i thought it was genius.

Good subject. Trailers have become bad partly because people want, or seem to want, more and more cuts. What we now call the teaser trailer is often what trailers used to be like. One scene that raises questions about the film. But generally I don't care too much. I'm not the kind of person who dissects trailers. And I tend to watch them for films that it might be months before I could see. So I wasn't coming at the film fresh from seeing the trailer. (I lived in Alaska for years.) Watched It Comes At Night without seeing the trailer and was still a bit let down. There was no real explanation for why everyone was so fearful. Hey you could do one on movie posters/cover art that spoil the film or don't fit. The film The Night Flier to me is a prime example. It's a pretty good Stephen King vampire film that builds to what the vampire looks like. And what's on the cover? The vampire.

Sadly, it's not only horror movies. I've stopped watching trailers for anything long time ago cause they usually spoil to much now.

My favorite horror movie, The Night Flier, had a great trailer. I hadn't seen anything about it when it came on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2003. When I later rented it to see the parts that were cut out I was blown away by the fact that the friggin' DVD cover ruins the big reveal!!!

i went to art school, watched the trailer and hated velvet buzzsaw, i got a lot of the satire but the "horror" elements were ruined by the trailer, i couldn't enjoy the movie at all almost cry at the end because i felt the theme could've been so great but didn't work at all
