Because lighter man portable launchers aren’t going to do shit to MBTs anyways. The US doesn’t see the point in having infantry lugging around a bunch of RPGs and spare rockets when they can just have a couple guys with much more portable LAWs that can be fired and thrown away. An operator may fire 3-4 times in a minute. But generally, you have two operators firing at a single target, especially a tank.

However, the video is incredibly biased. For example, the SMAW actually has a penetration of 600mm RHA at 500m with HEAA projectiles and has the benefit of a laser rangefinder and thermal sight, or spotting rounds, meaning it's one of the few rockets here than can even achieve a near 100% hit rate. Some of the things in the list don't even make sense. RPG27 RPG28 RPG30 Are all DISPOSABLE SINGLE SHOT launchers yet they have a statistic for rate of fire, yeah to reach out and grab another? RPG7 is listed as having 500m effective range, yet not even the lightest projectile has an effective range of 500m. The projectile that has 700+mm of rha pen is the RPG7VR, but that has an effective range of 200m or lower, this would put the RPG7 square at the bottom of the damn list. While the SMAW would handily take 7th or 6th if using its correct HEAA statistic. US doctrine is also vastly different from Russian doctrine, and doesnt typically use lighter shoulder launched systems to hunt MBTs. None of the Russian rpg platforms can effectively kill an Abrams from the front period. The protection agaisnt HEAT is well in excess of 1000mm. So all these systems will be used to kill tanks from the side anyway. SMAW and M3 MAAWS maybe even some varients of the AT4 will be able to kill Russian t72s, t90s more then sufficiently from the sides. The javelin is also missing from the list because it's not technically a rocket launcher. It's portable enough to be considered man portable although it is technically 2 man crewed, that will certainly be more than enough to kill any tank, and even the t14s aps is still hotly debated as to whether or not it can actually stop it. Omitting it is a very big yikes because the javelin is the very cornerstone of US infantry anti tank tactics. Of course if you don't add it in the US is going to look bad.

No that’s not how it works if it is a single use system it can’t be reloaded. Those rocket launchers are also know as disposable. The rocket and launcher are manufactured at the factory and once they’re fired you throw them away. They are meant to be an inexpensive anti tank system. This video is very suspect in its analysis of these rocket launchers.

Carl G isn't a "rocket launcher", it's a recoilless rifle (even the RAP round is still a recoilless rifle round). I carried one in the infantry. Fun to fire but I HATED that thing!

A very clever and inexpensive way to defeat what is a very expensive defense system.

There are definetly better launchers but its still a good launcher, they are relatively light and easy to use. You can train a soldier how to use it in a couple of hours and while i question its capabilities of destroying modern tanks its very affective against personal and personal hiding in buildings. You shoot it destroy the tube and forget about it.

That statement is somewhat true, as some western tanks have protection kits for the sides up to 150mm, and if you angle that, it might not penetrate. (Take this with a bit of salt) But the weapon is western made, so its not gonna fight western tanks, so i dont understand why they brought it up.

Modern tanks have several types of active protection against various weapons. Therefore, these grenade launchers can be considered insufficiently effective against tanks with new protection. But I wouldn't think so.

The RPG7V2 might take out a modern battle tank if you are really close and hit it in exactly the right spot. You might immobilize it or maybe even totally destroy it. They’re just not nearly as good against modern main battle tanks with their reactive armor. Modern tanks were designed to protect against the RPG7. That’s what they had in mind when they were designing the things.

The single shot funny tubes are lighter than the reloadable ones. Otherwise, the tandem charge rocket for RPG-7 and RPG-27 were developed around the same time. Soviet (and now Russian) military are very anal about keeping weights down. The T-90 is still ~48 tons, while M1 Abrams is a fat bastard at ~67. Logistics and all that.

Carl Gustaf is the best thing to come out of Sweden apart from bikinis, and at 84mm is smaller in bore than most of these rpg's. Because it is a recoilless rifle it can be reloaded, unlike nearly all the rpg's displayed here, so no reloading figures here make sense (reloading a throw away weapon??) and just to add a little zest, 27 RPG 7's were used on 1 challenger tank, not one penetrated it, and that was a mark1, the mark 2 is even better. Why does russia make so many different rpg's of different types and bores? That would be hilarious in a combat situation trying to reload (lol) a non reloadable rpg with the wrong ammo, but go on please explain that.

Also, during hostilities, if necessary, they can also take additional disposable grenade launchers like RPG 26 or RPG 27 without special restrictions. This makes the Russian army very strong in terms of anti-tank defense, due to the fact that any enemy armored vehicles after they appear will be instantly fired at from several directions at once.
