Hi Geoff! Trying 2 new plants as we speak, adeniums and a bleeding heart vine. I have never grown either one before. So far so good. I started 8 adenium seeds in October and so far so good. I keep a garden note pad, making note of seed staring times, propagation starting times, seed sowing times for outdoor stuff, blooming times, etc. I'm always reading gardening stuff daily so learning new things is a daily thing for me. I get rid of plants as well occasionally, things that are just looking too bad to keep mainly. Some plants will just not do well no matter how hard you try. It's o.k., just try one again another time. Have a great new year Geoff! Fudge too!

Great minds think alike eh Tom? I’ve persisted with an Adenium for a few years despite it barely clinging to life! Need to take my own advice. It’s in last chance saloon! Have a great new year and here’s to more great growing in 2024! All the best to you and your family Tom. 😁🤩🎊🍾🎉

Hi Tom, what is the botanical name of your bleeding heart vine? I’m only familiar with the bleeding heart garden plant (Dicentra)…Oh just looked it up, is it a Clerodendron? I had one of those years ago and loved it…❣️ The blue flowered one (Clerodendrum ugandense) has been on my long wishlist for a while. I have one Adenium ( Desert Rose) that’s hung on with me for about 15 years, not grafted, with a red flower. Winters it is right near the glass of a east window, sometimes it drops its leaves. I then put it outside in partial shade and it bounces back and then blooms all summer- I’m in east central NJ, zone 7a. Logee’s Greenhouse has some gorgeous ones, such as one with a yellow flower tinged with pink. 🌱

Hi Geoff. I’d like to say I want to do all the things on your list but know for sure that won’t happen because I just don’t have enough hours in the day to dedicate to my orchids & houseplants. I have a list of subscribers that I watch on KZfaq every afternoon while I’m resting and crocheting. Just by doing this I’ve learned so much, especially about orchids, which I’ve been growing for almost 25 years and thought I knew it all. (How wrong was I there). Thanks for an inspiring video, it’s certainly food for thought, as long as I don’t feel guilty about the things I don’t get done in my limited time.

I agree it's very personal and specific to each individual. I know some people hate goals and I guess they're not for everyone. For me it's more about the daily habits that get me heading in the direction I want to go - whether I achieve the goal or not is almost irrelevant. I'm sure someone famous said this first, but it's about the journey and not the destination!🤣

Good ideas for New Year’s resolutions, Geoff, even though I don’t really make them. I’d like to try some fasciated cacti, the Eyelash fern (Actiniopteris Australis), and an escargot swirled leaf type Begonia. And being more mindful of watering. I also love reading about plant hunters, I was recently gifted 2 books by Daniel Hinkley from The Explorer’s Garden series, which I am looking forward to reading. Couple of months ago I read The Founding Gardeners by Andrea Wolf, a fascinating book about Washington, Jefferson, Adams and Madison, who turned to their agreed passion for gardening while politically disagreeing and crafting the Constitution. Sounds like a plan to me! It seems few KZfaqrs read anymore. At least, of my book review videos are anything to go by. Maybe it’s just videos aren’t good enough. I’m increasing my reading this year and will definitely be including more about plants. I had an eyelash fern but it died. 😩 Have a good one and I’ll see you in another video! 😁🍾

I'm going to join an alocasia society ❤ and this year my plant to learn about is the pitcher plant, hence me becoming a new subscriber as you have a few videos and are in the UK too!

I am starting the new year being ruthless with culling my collection. I live in such a small apartment and I have plants on nearly every surface. It is time to reclaim my space! Oh, and I want to learn how to care for ferns this year, in particular tree ferns

A good one to start with and I’ll join you in it. And tree ferns are fabulous. I had one for a few years but one winter after I’d had surgery I was unable to wrap it up so it died. Shame as I loved that plant.

Right now plants are the least of my concern I've got house repairs to do. Being ruthless, the roof over my head comes first... And my car wouldn't start this morning! Plants can and have to take a backseat sometimes.

So true, for the first time in my adult life I lost many plants early in this year while dealing with awful long COVID symptoms and 3 months of rehab. Sure it was upsetting but things like roofs and health must always come before plants…🌿🚘

Great video Geoff ! You’ve got me thinking that I should make time to achieve my goals. I have been wanting to make a terrarium for a long time now so I’m going to do it !! I also want to try some rarer orchids and source some rarer aquatic plants for my tanks. I’m also letting go of things that don’t bring me joy ❤ Happy new year 🎉
