This is my video on the same subject. I may ruffle some feathers with this one. Could be some controversial picks. Would love to hear your thoughts. What are some terrible albums from artists you love?

No!! Say it isn't so! I've been a longtime defender of 'Momentary Lapse of Reason.' Lyrically it obviously misses Roger Waters' vision, but musically I really like it. 80's production and all. But I've long been Team Gilmour. I know I'm in the minority on my defense of MLOR, though. You and Mazzy have got me interested, so I'll do one of these as well. "knocked out loaded" was dylan's attempt to become willie nelson and put out (if need be) 5 records a year without any great effort put into them and no expectation that they're going to outsell....the thompson twins (no matter what columbia thought)! it was a reaction to everything you just said about "empire burlesque": bob dylan...80's star!...having said that, i enjoy the record and just like EB, it could have been 100 times better with other available 1986 selections.

It's far from his best but I like Alice Cooper's Lace and Whiskey mostly. It's very odd and theatrical in spots. My favourite cut is It's Hot Tonight, for me it's just a fun late 70's rock song. Where Alice Cooper really loses me is the late 80's hair metal period.

I think it would be easier to name artists who had excellent songs, but then you can't name anything (good) from later decades: - David Bowie: "Heroes" is a genious song from 1977. I can't think of anything from the 90s or later though. - Bob Dylan kinda gave up after the 70s, right? - Alanis Morisette? - Radiohead after the 1990s? - Aerosmieth after the 1990s? - Steven Spielberg after War of the Worlds? - George Lucas after mid 1990s?

Growing Up In Public definitely suffers from that awkward musical identity (mid-life) crisis that all those 60's guys like Lou and Neil seemed to get trapped in sooner or later, but at least the lyrics were still hilarious and entertaining. Thankfully, we got The Blue Mask w/the great Robert Quine and Fernando Saunders after that. Mistrial (1986) is for me, his worst from the 80's.

For Bob Dylan, I found Down in the Groove far worse than either Empire Burlesque or Knocked Out Loaded. These are definitely not masterpieces, but they have a couple of good tracks. As for Lou Reed, while I agree that Growing Up In Public is really bad, I found Mistrial absolutely abysmal, with lazy writing and shitty mid-80s overproduction. @@lostmixtapes Yes I did because it's a sloppy, poorly-produced album that was released against the will of the Beatles after they'd already broken up. It would therefore appear to me that such an obviously bad album naturally belongs in such a listing--of course, I'm assuming The Beatles belong to the "artists you love." But reading between the lines, I now understand that you like it. I don't know what your criteria for liking it are, but if you like it, fine. I don't. I'm not criticizing you for not agreeing with me; I had just hoped that we would have had similar opinions regarding that album and that you'd simply forgotten to mention "Let It Be" in your listing. Cool video and reviews This is tough task if you try to avoid bands past their prime LuLu : Reed and Metallica ( does that count as 2 ) anyway Lou stood behind this and Bowie said it was one of his best. Moonbeams and Blues-jeans Captain Beefheart I think Unconditional Guarantee has a few decent tracks, if it were anyone else in Mid 70s it might be passable not for the captain On Every Street : Dire Straits Great band until this happened Up to this point every studio record a classic , so disappointing I am looking fwd to Marks Local Hero thing ! Bob Dylan : Christmas Album I don’t even know the name Pointless Hawks and Doves : Neil Young I know he was going through personal turmoil at this time but i just warm to this I could have just as easily picked his stupid Doo Wop or Electronic albums but Hawks and Doves for me is his worst legit album Sometime in New York City John Lennon Its no a good Album Journey through The Secret Life of Plants : Stevie Wonder After his amazing run from Signed Sealed Delivered to Songs in the Key of Life And then This ? ! Thing Fish : Frank Zappa Not sure why he did this Little Village : Little Village Ry Cooder , John Hiatt , Nick Lowe & Jim Keltner I so wanted to like this album but it just doesn’t add up to the sum of its parts.

There are a lot of Lou Reed solo albums that I have a hard time getting through. So many are uneven at best, and some are just downright awful. I really dislike "The Bells". Good call on "The Black Rider". I like 'November' a bit from that one, but that's about it. I think "Knocked Out Loaded" would be my Dylan pick as well. People swear by the greatness of 'Brownsville Girl', and maybe amongst the rest of the material on the album it is a standout, but I've never fully embraced it as a classic Dylan tune. "Empire Burlesque" has really dated production, but I think it has several good songs on it. The songwriting isn't as sharp as "Infidels", but it is better than anything he did until "Oh Mercy". Could have definitely used more songs in the vein of 'Dark Eyes', but he was trying to sound relevant to the times. My only disagreement is with "Death of a Ladies' Man". I really dig that record. Yeah the production is odd, and Cohen's vocals are buried in the mix, but, again, I think there are some cool songs throughout. The only song I could do without is 'Don't Go Home With Your Hard-On'. I love 'Iodine', and the country shuffle of 'Fingerprints'. It doesn't sound like anything else in Cohen's discography, and it is kind of a bridge album between Leonard's earlier singing style and his later singing style. Since there weren't songs from that album on his Greatest Hits and early Best Of sets, I never really understood how we went from Point A material like 'Bird On A Wire' to Point B material like 'Everybody Knows'. I really like his vocals throughout "Death of a Ladies' Man". He's really loose, and he's starting to have that lived in quality to his voice, but he's not doing the talk singing thing yet. I mean, I get why folks don't like Spector's influence and how his Wall of Sound meshed with Cohen's songs, but I think it is a cool album.

2 albums by The Who, that were so bad, their likely out of print today Whos Best ? (it think its called) from 1983 with colorful British flag cover a once popular greatest hits compilation album, what I really hated about the record was how they (MCA) butcher edited and shortened the epic We Don't Get Fooled Again. The chopped version of " Fooled was even popular on Rock radio and friends and peers for about 2 years in the early 1980's, and Who's Last MCA 1983 a live concert album of their last show in Montreal Canada in December 1982. @@lostmixtapes i don’t think cohen ever made a bad album per se… ladies man for sure is divisive but don’t think it’s a terrible album at all. springsteen has had a few…. devils and dust, working on a dream, wrecking ball to name a few. i actually like human touch and lucky town quite a bit…. they’ve got a vibe.

Did you even watch this video? Lost Mixtapes. suggested that I do this topic over dinner a few days ago. And in my video , I reminded him to do his version. Actually there have been earlier variations of this topic as well. Nobody is ripping anyone off. We all do our own versions.
