Yahaira Alvarado I agree I can hear the Mexico City accent in some of the pronunciation when she speaks English, Spanish is definitely her first language, I know this because a lot of my neighbors from Mexico City moved to my neighborhood in Coronado California and I grew up interacting with them they look really white but when they speak your like oh ok, Now that we are all grown up I sometimes remind some of them of how they used to pronounce certain things and we get a kick out of it lol..🤙😁

Holly!... seriously, the more I see your videos, the more I fall in love with you. You're not only such an incredible bilingual girl, but you're also way talented and creative. Believe me, your videos are so catchy that after I watch either the English version or viceversa, I go and watch the other version, just to laugh and have fun as if it were actually the first time I watch them. I've just watched a few videos so far and I already hope you keep on doing this for a long long time. Thanks for sharing your experience and I promise I'll use these videos in my English classes so that my students see something different from just academic stuff (of course I'm sure they will love you too). I mean, it's important to have what they are given in their textbooks, but this is such a great complement for their learning (and this is not only for them, but for me too) Thanks again ;)

I'm from the United States, I visited Ecuador a couple of years ago and even though I was only there a few days, I noticed some things very similar to your description of Mexico. The street vendors and performers who expect you to pay them at red lights even if you didn't ask for their service is something that makes me uncomfortable, luckily we had an Ecuadorian to drive us and I was interested to note that he had a container of money next to him just so that he'd be able to pay the various vendors and performers at red lights. He said if you don't pay, they might get angry enough to mess with you. I was in Quito, and I thought it was hilarious how much everyone was honking their car horns. In addition to the wide variety of meanings to their honks, there was one coordinated special honking pattern that they were using at the time to protest some political stuff. It was a nonstop cacophony. I don't know if this happens in Mexico, but in Quito, Ecuador, listening to the soccer game was such a huge deal that the commentators were blaring over loud speakers every few feet so that you literally couldn't go anywhere that you wouldn't hear it, loudly. And everyone would cheer (and honk like crazy) when their team scored a "¡¡¡¡¡¡¡GOOOOOOoOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nicknames are harsh in Venezuela as well. One girl had the nickname “tiburón” (shark). She was very pretty but she had one arm noticeably shorter than the other. She and her brother would go to the swimming pool often and everyone called her “tiburón.” When asked why, I was told, “Because when she swims, she goes around in circles.”

Superholly English: ¡Hola, hermosa y querida Holly! Hello Holly, besides being beautiful you are very nice. I did the google translator to put this post. I initially put it in your video in Spanish, I hope it is correctly translated. Yes, I agree with you, there are very picturesque screams that can be funny and can cause sympathetic situations. I say this because of the following: You have to mention a loud cry with a low voice that is usually heard in Mexico City at around 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning: "EL GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS" so you can buy the gas tanks that supply the house. I mention it to you because I live in Mexico City, and one time my grandmother (who was visiting from the state of Tamaulipas) to hear the sound of the gas vendors said very scared: "Oh, poor man ... that you they will be doing ... " And another time, as a child, and with the same grandmother we drove to visit some uncles in the state of Puebla, and as you probably know Holly, there are typical sweets from that state that have a slight liqueur flavor and for that reason he calls them "Drunks"; and when we arrived at the car collection booth, before arriving in Puebla, the street vendors would run to my dad's car to sell us "drunks", so my brothers and I shouted very effusively: "Dad, Dad, there are the drunks! " (to buy us some); and my grandmother who did not know those sweets when they saw people approaching, shouted at my frightened dad: "let's go fast, speed up drunks ..."; Of course we all laugh and explain the situation. Thank you for loving Mexico that is also your country, because you have lived here and are part of this country, you know both the good and the bad of Mexico and you have the right to talk about what you like; although from my particular point of view I think the good wins. And with no desire to be presumptuous or haughty and echoing what Chavela Vargas once said when questioned by offensive journalists about her birthplace since she was born in Costa Rica, she said: Mexicans are born where the rechingada gives us win !, for which, you are as Mexican as anyone born in this country. My respect and affection for the United States because many people emigrate there but they forget to thank the benefits obtained in this beautiful country full of opportunities; I lived there for three years (as undocumented) to work, and although there were good things and not so good, I testify that it is also a great country, where there are good, friendly and sincere people. A clear example of this is our beautiful friend Super Holly. I wish you the best of life today and always. Greetings Holly

Hi, I'm not Holly… but I saw there was no reply to your question and since I've done precisely what you asked, here goes. No, the translation is not exactly the same, sometimes I found entire sentences missing or completely wrong. I try not to read books in both languages, because that only makes me feel angry. But sometimes it's good, because it makes sense something that I read before and I was like 'wtf'.
@RockPhonic

Thanks for replying. I guess when somethings translated it changes to the most similar word. It's not always the exact translation. In other langues like Spanish there is masculine and feminine words, which you don't get in English. - Yeah, I've commented on quite a few of Holly's videos, she seems to reply to most people, but not me?

About La Hora Mexicana... I am always on time.. In fact, I am always half hour early at work! But, for instance, when it comes to parties and social events, they mention a time, BUT culturally, you are NOT supposed to arrive at that particular time or else "estás llegando a barrer!" I have this issue with my fiancé here in Southern California. She's Caucasian. I am from Hermosillo, Sonora. She stresses about being late to reunions, and I keep telling her "babe, we don't want to get there to help sweep the place." But she claims being punctual to parties is an American thing... hehe.

I remember the milkman where I lived was actually a young woman and my suegro would always run out to buy milk from her. He took a suspiciously long time to complete his transaction...so my girlfriend teasingly referred to her as his "novia"

Was kind of curious. Is there panhandling in Mexico or do most people try and sell stuff to make a dollar. Because here in the states it gets out of hand with people just wanting handouts.

When you talked about the Mexican tardiness, you may also have to add the expression "ahorita" which means an indeterminate time lapse. I do like your channel. Congratulations!!! Greetings from Puebla city!
