Hahahaa… you know what? Don’t include the i in the word peine and let’s see who laughs first 😂😂😂 That really cracked me up. Listen one 😂😂 one day I went to this Mexican supermarket and the electric pen to sign at the cash register counter to pay for the groceries was broken and someone who probably does not know fluent English wrote down on a piece of cardboard, well they wanted to say: The pen is broken, use your finger, but instead they put this down: THE PENIS BROKEN, USE YOUR FINGER 😂😂😂😂 They didn’t separate the word PEN IS… instead they put the two words together and obviously is said: PENIS… 😂😂😂 Majority of the customer were Hispanic and probably they didn’t really understand because they were like 6 people ahead of me and no one said anything until I got there 😂

I never heard “Spill the tea.” I used to have a book of 101 Spanish Modismos which was illustrated with cartoon like drawings. I was very entertained. A couple of modismos from that book that you did not include in your list but which I really like are ”A otro perro con ese hueso.” and “Cuando las ranas críen pelo.”

Spanish was my first language I live in the states my Spanish is good but is limited I would say it's like a sixth grade education. I know all the Pachuco slang I don't speak Spanglish. Because I think it sounds ignorant que no like you are trying to hide the fact that you don't have enough English vocabulary so I can learn a lot of proper Spanish from you I don't know any of the rules I just speak it by ear thanks for your videos

METER LA PATA does NOT mean TO MAKE A MESS OF THINGS, it is more like TO MAKE A BLUNDER, TO FALL FOR IT, TO F... UP. Apart from this, Holly is the ONLY Spanish tutor on youtube among TONS AND DOZENS I had to endure today trying to find adequate teachers for my very own students here. Apart from her I have not found a single one who is competent. Holly has no annoying and dumb accent of any kind, she is energetic, intelligent and honest. A 💯 % RECOMMENDABLE. WITH HER YOU WILL LEARN TRUE SPANISH, WITH ALL OTHERS YOU WON'T.

I don’t even have kids yet but I really want my kids to be in touch with our culture as much as possible. I know a lot of no sabo kids and they struggle a lot with Spanish and I feel bad because their parents never thought them. And i don’t wanna make that mistake, My first language is Spanish so I find it easier tbh but i also want to take them to my country (Peru) so they learn more about our culture, food, people and my family :)

A goal of mine is to raise my future children bilingual. I'm learning Russian for a variety of reasons and want that to be the second language, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to create that need you were talking about for learning Russian. According to a few sources, Russian only has around a million speakers in the states. I do plan to learn Spanish since it is such a widespread language in the US, so I may teach my future children Spanish instead.

most people do not know the name of our country. the name of our country is United States of America. it is confusing because it is not outrightly expressed as such. and you will read the constitution, and see terms such as these united states and the several states. where is the united states? in washington d c only? i think most of the constitution was written for and only for washington d c and a few other places like customs offices, and ammunition dumps. if you read the constitution you have to know it is an illegal document and written intentionally and with the purpose of being vague. the signers knew it was wrong for them to draw up a new document, and they knew it was treasonous. new york, for example only has 3 signers. the other new york attendess did not sign. they did not want to be included in the dark work. read the list of manumission errors on the last page of the constitution. any one of which would have rendered the document invalid because of vagueness. note especially the following: "The Word "Thirty" being partly written on an Erazure in the fifteenth Line of the first Page". try having a bank loan you 30 thousand dollars, and then smudging out 30 thousand and writing in 30 million. what court would honor that document? yet that's the kind of thing we see in the constitution. and what did the signers sign? did they sign with an oath? no. did they sign as a witness to a legal document? no. does their signature mean anything at all? i have signed my name on a roll for sunday school class. should i consider that a legal document? the legal founding document that was signed in perpetuity with an oath is the articles of confederation. this country is and always has been a confederacy. you're on the internet. it should only take you 5 minutes find and to read it for yourself. i know this is a spanish lesson, and my comment is a far cry from the topic, but i think i have every right to call myself an american if i want to, regardless of what mexicans think. at one time (maybe still) you could pass customs and enter the door labled america. there is quite a witches brew stirring as to who has jurisdiction in a certain area. there are county sheriffs who maintain that they are the highest authority in the land. added to that, there is the tendency for the federal government to over-reach it's authority and pretend to be something it isn't. mexicans have a hard time with the name of our country, but they have a generally hard time accepting the fact that we live so close to them. as they say so far from hell, but so close to the united states. my impressions with spanish speaking people, and we have a lot of them, puerto rico, mexico, costa rico, etc.etc. , is that they have a very hard time admitting to themselves that this country is not spanish. we have very different customs, and we have an entirely different language. the result is that they will take offense where no offense is intended and hear things that are not even said. of course it happens when english speakers are in different countries too. so the best course is cool your jets. admit you are a foreigner and you really should approach your new country like a child. you have to learn things the way you learned as a child growing up in your own country.

Hi heather, thank you for this informative video. I'm English, raised a bilingual child (in France) and since their birth my French son wants me to speak only English to my two baby granddaughters. One is 3 and the other 18 months. The problem is I only see them a few hours a week and he's now saying I can't establish a real relationship with them because they can't communicate with me. It's very frustrating for me to not communicate correctly with them and have feedback. Do you think I can stop speaking English and just teach them words rather than depriving myself from a full conversation ? They never speak to me in English, just repeating the odd word anyway. Thanks fro you reply, take care.

Anglophone here. I think with proper nouns usually one says them the way that place pronounces them. It gets dicey for some places that already have an acceptable name but is totally different. One well-known example is Köln in Germany. That city in English is usually said as Cologne. Should we really be pronouncing it Köln? What about Den Haag (in The Netherlands)? It's been taking to pronouncing it the Dutch way even in English despite that English doesn't have the Dutch G sound. In English, this is known as The Hague, though I think it should at least have the A in it pronounced liker 'ah' so it will have the same vowel as the original Dutch Haag.
