Shawn was so down on his own ability to be the HBK of old in 2002 that he tried everything with his gear (and hairstyle) to dilute fan's expectations of him as the same guy (jeans at SummerSlam, the infamous brown ones at Survivor Series, the plain black, white and red with "HBK" down the leg). At Armageddon '02, I think Triple H convinced him to go out in the red and white "broken hearts" gear, and by WM XIX he was *THE* HBK again...

Another Undertaker attire that looked really awful was the tights with the Deadman Inc. logo and sleeveless v-neck with his cross logo in red and white, which he wore at No Way Out 2001. Kane also wore an attire at the same event, which was just an all-black version of his attire from the previous year at SummerSlam 2000, where his tights and singlet where changed to all-black, but the rest of the outfit remained unchanged. Thankfully, both their attires at this event were one-time only and never seen on TV again. The same cannot be said though, for Kane’s attire that he started wearing in July 2001 up until the end of his full-mask run in April 2002. It was just an inverse of the mesh designs and flame designs from the previous two attires I mentioned, but it’s quite the eyesore. I’m surprised more people who watched his matches from that time don’t talk about it more, to be honest. Then there’s his final attire update of that time, which he wore at Survivor Series 2001, another one-time only attire. It was a carbon copy of his SummerSlam 2000 attire, only it’s red with black flames instead. Not as egregious as his July 2001-April 2002 attire, but still standing out a bit, and not entirely in a good way. I think the designs of Kane’s multiple one-sleeve attires from the October 1997-August 2000 period and the one and only two sleeve attire he debuted at King of the Ring 1998 and used up until Judgment Day 1998 (Undertaker did use it once or twice after, but Kane himself never used it again after ‘Taker turned heel) really just lent themselves better to palette swaps.
